Reviews for this vacation condo rental in Sapphire Beach, St Thomas, Virgin Islands

Just Perfect!
February 23, 2013
It does not get much better than this condo! Right on the beach and the water is 30 metres away. Perfect size for us and its location on St. Thomas is outstanding: a minute's drive to Red Hook with restaurants, groceries (though for those we would recommmend K-Mart or Cost U Less to avoid outrageous prices like $6 for a bag of chips) and the ferry to St. John which has even better beaches. It's also 20 minutes from downtown and literally the best shopping in the Caribbean as it is duty-free with no sales taxes. We also visited Mountain Top and Magens Bay which were great as well. Finally, we took the ferry for a day trip to Tortola in the British Virgin Islands: while nice, there is not much to do there at all. We were there 4 hours and that was a little more time than we needed (whatever you do, do not eat the deep-fried hot dog at Pusser's, it looks cool and unique but I think it gave me food poisoning for 48 hours). If you are in St. Thomas, do rent a car (there is a Budget car rental at Sapphire beach). It may look intimidating with driving on the left with a car that is not designed to do so, on twisting, narrow roads that go up and down, but it's in fact very easy to adjust. The roads could be better indicated but if you do miss one, you will find out quickly. Parking was never an issue as there is plenty of space and it is cheap ($2 an hour in Red Hook by the ferries, $1 downtown by the fire station), or in a lot cases free like at Havensight Mall. You can take taxis but that ends up being more expensive (even paying $50 to take the car barge to St. John still ends up being cheaper) and you don't have the freedom of a car. We had a small Toyota Yaris and to visit around, it's perfect. We used a half tank over two weeks and we did a lot of exploring. Some recommend having a 4x4 vehicle if you go to St. John and it happens to rain turning dirt roads to mud but it actually rains very rarely in the area. Aside from a few brief and light evening showers, there was only a half day where it rained. As insurance against getting stuck on a muddy road, use a Canadian winter trick: buy a bag of cat litter to spread under your tires to give you the traction you need. I can't imagine a better vacation: great beaches, lots to visit, great food (in particular The Big Bamboo restaurant in Red Hook and the Taco Hell stand across the street) and the best and cheapest shopping. We just got home and we want to go back! Thx Mick & Jeannette! Guillaume and Christina
Owner's reply:
Thank you Guillaume for the wonderful review. You provide a lot of helpful tips for future visitors to the Virgin Islands & it sounds like you did a lot while you were there. We're thrilled that you & Christina had such a great time (except for the deep-fried hot dog incident) and enjoyed our "little slice of paradise".
We've met such wonderful people from around the world since buying our condo last year & couldn't agree more that it's in the perfect location! It was a pleasure getting to know you and we sincerely thank you for being our guests & would love to have you come back again.
Warm Regards,
Jeannette & Mick

We stayed in this Condo for 5 night over Labor Day weekend. Having the piece of mind of being picked up from the airport was awesome. We snorkeled every day and say lots of fish. The condo itself is great. Love the fact that it's a corner unit with a good size patio which we sat on each evening to watch the beach. We say iguanas on the beach. This time of year there were not too many people on the beach which we thought was perfect. We will definitely came back to this condo for another visit in the future.

The best place to stay on the island!

Helpful votes:1/1.
A109 was perfect! Sapphire beach is the place to stay in St. Thomas. It is safe, the unit was clean and was perfect for our family of three. You are steps from the beach and really good snorkeling--you can see turtles, sting rays, and a variety of fish and coral. We rented a jeep and drove to other beaches on the island-- Sapphire couldnt be beat. It is easily the best place on St. Thomas. As for A109 -- we loved it. It was quiet and the folks at the rental shop beside the unit are friendly and always willing to help. The owners are wonderful to work with and called after we arrived just to check and make sure we had made it ok and had everything we needed! Defintely recommend Mick and Jeannette and A109!!!!

This was our fourth time staying at Sapphire Beach Resort and we loved A109!! The pictures are spot on and the description of the place very acurate! Jeannette and Mick are great hosts to their "slice of paradise" and were very helpful in all the little things they did to make our vaca a great one!! I would definately recommend their condo to my friends and family and I hope to be back next year! The fun thing about staying in the A building is watching the cruise ship people and also being where the action is!! Thank you Jeannette and Mick, it was a pleasure staying in your "slice of paradise" and I hope to visit again!!! Nannette and Jimmy

We loved our stay at the Sapphire beach resort. The place is in a great location and just steps away from great snorkeling/swimming and water sports. The place had everything you need to make food which we found to be very beneficial. The place is very clean and well kept. We would return again. The owners were very helpful.
Paradise Found!
This was our first time getting a place to stay through VHR and we couldn't have been happier. Jeannette and Mick had a concierge and take us to their condo. The location of this condo is fantastic, It's worth knowing which building your staying in when on Sapphire Beach Resort an this is in Building A, first floor on the corner, the back slidin glass opens to the sand and a short 30 step walk to the crystal clear waters of Sapphire Beach. The A building is closest to the Dive In shop and only one building away from Banana Cabana which has fantastic drinks and food (Try the Da Lime in Da Coconut!) Jeannette and Mick's pride of ownership is obvious with the condition of the condo. The wood on the patio is newly treated, the bathroom has a motion sensor light that automatically comes on when you enter, and the condo is fully stocked with everything needed, coffee maker, micro, fridge, and don't forget the blender! The front door has a keyless entry which is perfect for those beach days and no lost key! We ate breakfast and lunches in the condo or on the beach, then often went to Red Hook for dinner. You must try Coco Blue in Red Hook, I had the best steak there, it was so thick and cooked just right. There is a grocery store named Food Center just a little past Red Hood where we stocked up on essentials. It was fun, it made us feel like locals going to the store with everyone else We spent many days snorkeling right off the beach and we saw more sea life right there than on an expensive snorkel trip we took. We saw Sea Turtles, sting rays, squid, trumpet fish, fan coral, and other fish that I don't know their name! Absolutely loved being able to snorkel right off the beach. Oh by the way, snorkel gear was included. Jeannette and Mick, THANK YOU for providing such prompt, professional service and replies to all my questions!! We're so glad we chose to stay with you and yes we will be back !

We had an amazing time!!
Left on 05/13/2012 for a stay in April 2012
This was one of the nicest rentals we have ever stayed in. The room was extremely clean, the location was breathtaking, and the owners of this condo were easy to get in touch with and really cared that we had everything we needed for our stay. We can't wait to go back!!
