Description of the Savannah vacation home rental
A former guest put it this way...
"We just finished staying at the Taylor Estate and had such a wonderful time! There were only 7 of us in just the Manor alone yet we had Plenty of room without even using the Cottage!. The pictures of the home truly do not do it justice. Upon arrival and opening the front door, we were overwhelmed with the beauty and the cleanliness of this home! The youngest of our group, an 18 year old, absolutely loved the attic bedroom and TV area! She had her own little world. We will definitely be staying here again on our next adventure. If we could, we would stay here every time we visit Savannah! Loved the location and the quietness of the area. Took nightly walks and enjoyed the parks. The owner has taken great efforts to make your stay enjoyable with brochures and maps and suggestions. The marked map in the kitchen was a great help being marked with things like the closest grocery store. We cooked a full breakfast every morning and had everything we needed to cook with. If you are planning a trip to Savannah, Ga., THIS is the place to stay, it felt like home from the moment we walked in. The decor is an antique haven w/homey touches everywhere you look! And the mattresses...oh we want to come back! Thank you, Suzanne, for opening up your home to us so that we could enjoy your great city and this awesome slice of heaven in the Taylor Estate. Next time, we want the Cottage too...we took a peek and couldn't believe how adorable it was. We will be back with more than 7 of us next time for sure!"
You'll enjoy two homes for the price of one...the handsome Manor and it's former Carriage House renamed, Taylor Cottage.
Sitting behind the Manor and separated by Courtyards and driveway, the story, self-standing Cottage allows for both privacy & proximity. It's perfect for groups that wish to separate by gender, age, or brides family/grooms family, or just pick straws as you're only separated when you wish it :). The Cottage used to be a long-term rental and is a complete home in itself w/ full kitchen, cozy Living Rm, and two themed bedrooms and full bathrooms & its own Laundry Rm . The roomy 4 car driveway separates it from the Manor. Taylor Cottage... defines "adorable" luxury!! As for the 4 Bedroom Manor that fronts East Taylor Streetyou'll enjoy four distinctive bedrooms and handsomely furnished living and dining areas styled with marble, stone and leather furnishings. The front door opens onto the high ceilinged marble foyer & chandelier entrance...as you pass into the main part of the Manor, you'll step upon the original heart pine wood floors. The floorplan is spacious and traffic patterns are easy as huge passthroughs and archways lead from the living room to the Dining Room with its antique dining table and chairs and floor to ceiling bookcases beside the granite fireplace and throught to the large Kitchen with decor that adds a quakeresque-touch to the stylish and antique ambience present throughout the home. The bedrooms lie on the second and third floors- each themed and with its own unique decor. Combine the Manor with the Cottage and you haveThe Taylor Estate! Or, rent either the Manor and the Cottage separately.
Additional perks not found in most other homes, especially of this size include
HYPOALLERGENIC, We take pride in the environment and are eco-friendly, encourage recycling, and use green cleaning products. Pet-FRIENDLY WITH FENCED DOG RUN in park across the street along w/baseball diamond/bleachers and playground, soccer field.
SENIOR AND HANDICAP-FRIENDLY COTTAGE...while the bedrooms of the Manor are all on the 2nd and 3rd floors...this is not the case with the Cottage which was renovated w/our aging parents in mind...
While the Cottage is utterly charming and painstakingly restored using craftsman-style technique, it offers more than charm. It is self-standing (no shared walls or ceilings!) with a private entrance off East Jones Lane as well as a rear courtyard entrance. It's not your "typical 1 BR/1BA Carriage House" which is why we renamed it the Taylor Cottage. Certain to delight you with its charming craftsman-built (eg: all cabinetry/counters built by hand) kitchen, antique decor, polished wood floors, high end appliances and quality bedding, spacious master bedroom suite that occupies the entire second floor in a pseudo-loft sytle, bathrooms sport a jetted tub/shower in the one and a walk-in stone-tiled shower in the other. The first floor bedroom is decorated with wicker furnishings and luxurious soft leather furnishings with a decor evoking thoughts of an italian villa occupy the Living Room. Meandering between the Carriage House and Manor Courtyards is easily accomplished yet, due to the angled location of the two courtyards, each offers foliage bedecked privacy. In addition, the Carriage House/Cottage features a discrete access ramp and, as mentioned, a first floor bath with walk- in shower that also features a handheld showerhead /elegant grab bars and optional shower bench!
Possibilities abound for this winning combo...Rent the Carriage House for groups of 1 to 6, Rent the Manor for groups up to 11, or Rent the entire Estate for groups up to 17. You'll find the Estate perfect for wedding parties, Corporate gatherings/training sessions, Church Retreats, Reunions, Family Vacations, and Scout Troops! Enjoy WiFi, Flat Screen TV's VCR / DVD/s and child friendly videos/books,an assortment of board games as well as luxurious linens and superb appliances, cookware, and Quality high end mattresses that have left guests so enamored that 3 of them have called me after they've returned home to ask where I bought my mattresses! (And that was just last year!)
Handpicked Decor of stone, tile, marble, wood, and leather blend with antique furnishings, high ceilings, and 7 foot windows. We take special delight in the hand hewn countertop in the Manor's kitchen which was made from hardpine that is over 350 years old. Decorative fireplaces are in the Living Room, Dining Room and two of the four bedrooms in the Manor.
Flat screen TV/DVD/VCRs/CD Players/Ceiling Fans, Central AC Heat,All tubs are tub/shower combo's, Free WiFi, Charcoal grills and furnished courtyards filled with foliage accentuate your comfort in both the Carriage House and Manor. We have 2 cruiser bikes available for rental and a Hot Tub in the Manor Courtyard * So come on & enjoy comfort, convenience! You'll "live" Savannah, not just visit it!
Plus...did I mention COMFY beds! An absolute must in my opinion in any true home away from home! :)

Girls weekend/30th birthday
June 11, 2013
We loved, loved the house. Perfect for a group of ten women to gather, cook, play crazy board games, close to everything, beautiful Victorian style southern home. Only complaint was that the third floor was rather hot and our girls up there were uncomfortable at night. The bathrooms were amazingly appointed and large. All of the decor was magnificent and totally fit the era of the house. Did I say we loved it? Highly recommend and the access was easy at check in and out.
Glad you found the Taylor Manor so roomy! I'm not a fan of sleeper sofas, Hence, beds are in bedrooms! Which allows for "crazy boards games" & gathering in comfort in the shared living areas. The Taylor Manor & its former Carriage House (Taylor Cottage) form the lovely & private Taylor Estate for groups up to 17! An especially hot June this year explains the heat. Opening the 3 windows for crosswind breezes works for times when 2 ceiling fans & AC is not enough. But, I added a table fan too!

long weekend extended family get-together
February 14, 2013
I am a reluctant planner by nature, always afraid things won't work out and I'll be to blame, so when I decided to take the initiative and plan a big family celebration for my dad's 80th birthday, I was plenty worried about trusting that this place was as good as advertised, but it turned out so much better than I expected or even hoped. The Estate was just exactly what my family reunion needed - plus! We had a large group coming from different places - the reservation was for 16, but we ended up with a group of 13 including a baby - people who never get to see enough of each other but also need some space and privacy. I had feared we'd either be too crowded or feel separated but it worked out so well, with several large areas to congregate indoors and out, private bedrooms as well as a couple of open loft-type bedrooms, lots of queen size beds, a few singles, and enough bathrooms. I was so pleased and surprised that it really worked out for everyone, no complaints. The location is indeed an easy walk to almost everything we wanted to see in the historic district. We walked and saw the sights together, cooked and ate most meals together, split off for some, and ate out as a group too. We did a 1500-piece jigsaw puzzle we brought with us while we just hung out together. Some of us soaked in the hot tub and took time to watch a favorite TV show (Downton Abbey) together, and everybody had room to be off by themselves when they needed it. As is the rest of the estate, the 2 kitchens are well-equipped, a grocery store nearby, shops and restaurants and bars all walking distance. Nobody in our group made use of a pedi-cab or a bus and we barely used our cars, though all of those were at our disposal - the weather and the walking were wonderful. Even though we packed plenty into the time we had, the trip was so relaxed. Everybody, from 4 months to 80 years old, was able to feel right at home - as if we were in one of our own homes but better. This was my first chance to spend more than just a few hours in Savannah and I loved it. My interactions with the estate's friendly owner were all just great. This experience has given me confidence that even I can plan a trip. I thought it turned out perfectly. The only ones with anything to regret are the 3 who were planning to be there but couldn't make it. Poor them, they really missed out!
It warms my heart not only to have such a kind review, but because of a review such as this one, I know I've succeeded in my goal to provide the perfect "home away from home" for every group! Having lived for years in Taylor Manor and it's former Carriage House (renamed Taylor Cottage) after we restored it back in 2000..we knew every nook and cranny as well as what we felt would make the Estate feel like home for others as well. Personal family heirlooms and antiques are throughout the Estate and, to me, it will always be my "home" and never "just a vacation house". Thank you SO much for allowing us to be a part of your memories and especially for letting me know the location, the floorplan and true comfort of the Estate made it perfect for your family as well!

We Loved It!

We had twelve family members that stayed here for the Thanksgiving weekend. It was wonderful. We felt so at home in the Taylor Manor. We had both because there were supposed to be about 16 of us. The homes have such a welcoming feeling to them and are both very beautiful. The location is perfect. You can walk to everything downtown and the drive to Tybee Island and St. Bonaventure are not bad at all. We even walked to the grocery store when we only needed a few things. Suzanne was wonderful to work with. We will definitely stay here again if we get to go back to Savannah.
I agree having the only full grocery store within the landmark historic downtown only a few blocks away IS a definite Family heirlooms are throughout the Estate, so you definitely get the cozy feel that of a home, not a "generic" house. At least, that is my goal :). For instance, the photographs lining the stairwell of the Cottage are of my great grandparents, grandparents, and my own family while the oil painting over the fireplace in the Manor Dining Room was painted by my Aunt who had frequent gallery showings in California back in the day. So, It warms my heart to hear your stay was made that much better by my effort to provide a decor that is cozy, warm and makes you feel truly "at home"!

Home away from home
April 10, 2012
My husband & I are return guests. We went in August and again the week after Christmas. The Cottage was like a home away from home. The hosts are like family and were personally invested in our visit, giving us great suggestions on what to do and where to eat. Staying at the Cottage is a much better vacation home rental than just staying in a hotel. It is perfectly located in a quiet section of town, and most of the sites are within walking distances.
I love return Guests :) We originally met Marilyn & Tom when we did a "Home Exchange" with them! (They have a great Myrtle Beach Vacation Rental!). While many vacation home rental owners are absentee owners...we actually live downtown ourselves. We have for over a decade. Our children attend both SCAD & AASU here in Savannah. So, unlike other owners... we live among and are daily customers of the restaurants/tourist sites/museums/shops located all around the Taylor Estate in Savannah's sought after "Landmark Historic District!" (Eg: Listed in the National Historic Register as the largest of the 13 historic districts from the original 13 american colonies). Living next door to the Estate as we do, we give Guests their privacy. To that end....I've put my personal recommendations/suggestions into binders for their use and they are useful...as the Marschells attest! :). So come and enjoy the Estate, Manor-only, or just the Cottage & be one of our return Guests! While the three tourist sites of Savannah that require a car to enjoy, as they're outside the actual historic district boundaries, are Bonaventure Cemetery, Fort Pulaski and Tybee Beach...Savannah's historic downtown (and therefore only a walk away from the Estate) does offer visitors Fort Stewart, Colonial Cemetery (General Sherman housed his troops & horses in it during the Civil War), & the Savannah River as their older equivalents :).
April 12, 2011
Truly, we enjoyed our stay! We were close enough to stroll to all the many attractions. Yet, far enough away to peacefully wake up to birds singing. The accommodations were clean, relaxing, and very charming. The owners were just delightful. We are looking forward to returning to this lovely retreat! Sincerely, Sophia Forester
Great location and comfortable living
April 11, 2011
We stayed 3 nights in the Carriage House behind the estate's Manor House during my spring break from teaching. It was great accommodations with everything we needed. The walk to almost everything we wanted to see was so enjoyable. It was also convenient to roads going to the Forts and also to Wormslow and Bonnaventure. We never got lost and that was great! We figured out the blocks around us with no problem and enjoyed walking to the parks around the area. Information provided in the house also helped us plan our days. We hope to return this summer. Thanks Suzanne!

Great family house
January 3, 2011
We had a great after Christmas get together with family in Tybee. This house was perfect for our family of 16. We were so comfortable and could have stayed a month. We are planning a repeat for next year. This is our favorite house so far.
Owner Supplied Testimonials
Name: Jan L, Reno NV
Property: Taylor Estate
Review/Comments: Our stay at Taylor Estate for a family reunion was just right. We rented both the 'big house' and the 'little house.' Convenient to everything in the historic district(s) by walking, bus,or car. We had a family dinner at the Olde Pink House (excellent), drove in 4 cars and every one was still able to park in garage next door. About 1/3 of our group, the young'uns, walked home vs driving.
Several fond memories of the 542 Taylor neighborhood: 1) easy walk to generous, reasonably priced, breakfast at Clary's; opportunity to catch up over cups of coffee; afterward walking breakfast off while looking at enchanting architecture around the neighborhood . Forsyth Square, not that far. Nor Mercer/Williams house (for the Midnight in Garden of Good & Evil aficionado). 2) Of an early evening, several of us taking a walk around the block(s), wine glasses in hand, and being yoo-hooed by neighbors sitting on their porches to stop & sit & chat for a spell.
While Colonial Cemetery is a short stroll from the Estate....
You must, must visit Bonaventure Cemetery. It is in Thunderbolt - isn't that a great name - vs Savannah. (2.8 miles from 542 Taylor.) For that site...you have to drive or take the bus. Another suggestion for first-timers to Savannah...you must, must commence by taking a tour to give you an overview. How good the tour is depends on the driver. On 1st round of a trolley tour we had a driver who seemed to read from a script; 2nd round - with on/off tix can use all day - a jolly good fellow. Part of our group took a horse carriage and learned a h*ll of lot more than we bus tours did. So, maybe interview your driver?
Back to Taylor Estate: Full kitchens in each house. BBQ facilities, Hot Tub, Sit-out patios w/comfortable table and chairs, parking for 4 cars in back lane. Truly...the Estate boasts Location, Location, Location!

5 stars out of of 5
The Taylor Estate in the historic district of savannah was perfect for my 60th birtday gathering with my brothers and sisters and their spouses . there is so many wonderful things to do and see and they are all within walking distance . The property was exactly as advertised, but better in person and my family had all the space and privacy they could wish for. the interior of both the main house and the carriage house was decorated tastefully. and all the ameneties were quite handy . we were able to cook for all of us and we had plenty of seating for our meals . the neighborhood is very peaceful and we felt right at home the moment we arrived. I would recommend this property for any type of gathering .
Terrific accomodations and location

We spent Thanksgiving week at this well-appointed and comfortable rental. Both the manor and the carriage house were well-equipped, including cribs, the usual electronics, gobbles of kitchen equipment and more. I think we were 14 and a dog, but would have been comfortable with two more. It was great to have a playground across the street (ballfields as well, but we didn't use them) and historic Savannah at our doorstep. Easy walking to a commercial area, and through beautiful squares! Groceries require a car, but it is not far and the store is a good one. The property description is accurate, everything was in working order, and we enjoyed every minute of our week off!

"The perfect place!"
My son is a us army Ranger stationed in Savannah Georgia, and met his beautiful bride there. When nuptials ensued, a large part of our extended family wanted to attend the blessed event. We have been cast apart over time, and decided to use the event to get together and spend some time with each other. The Taylor Estate fit the bill to a tee! Everyone, from my 10 year old nephew to my 85 year old father in law, had a great time, and had all their needs met. The Estate gave everyone the privacy they needed, but allowed us to spend great time together. it was extremely comfortable, tastefully furnished, and had a great location that allowed us to explore Savannah and environs. Initial supplies, with obligatory coffee, got us started, and local markets were identified and close, allowing us to feed the contingents. Restaurants in the locale were plentiful and great. My duties with my job(s) required internet access, which was supplied, high speed, and without "drops". Multiple people showering at once posed no problems with hot water or pressure, and having a washer and dryer available helped with limiting our baggage for the vacation. It was hot and humid when we arrived (go figure!), but the air conditioning turned the house into an oasis of coolness, with the weather rapidly turning to out favor. The book of "instructions" told us all we needed to know about the house, and gave us a lot of insights that allowed us to maximize our adventures throughout Savannah. Even parking for our 4 cars, normally a nightmare in a crowded urban environment, was easily handled with off-street parking. I would highly recommend the Taylor Estate to anyone who has a few days to kick back and enjoy the splendor of Savannah!

I love getting groups that are a blend of ages...those with both young children and even babies up thru Seniors! That's where the Estate shines! Between the Nintendo and board games/kid-friendly videos and books to keep the younger ones entertained to the discrete handicap-accessible Cottage with its Senior-friendly yet elegant grab bars and walk in shower & first floor bedroom....it's geared to meet the needs of everyone in your group. Plus, the ability to be "right next door" yet still able to "get away to be esconsed in your their own quiet privacy" has been the favorite comment I hear from the grandparents within family reunion groups ;)....so to hear you reinforce all this....PRICELESS! :)
From Tanna Whaley, Cleveland TN- Stayed Aug 3 - 8, 2011...

Thank you to the owners for opening up your home to us so that we can enjoy your great city. Hope to see you soon as we are planning another trip already in Dec. or Jan. Loved your decor, you did a great job decorating the home with even the smallest touches.

We really enjoyed the house and the lovely city of Savannah. It's the first time any one of us were out in this neck of the woods and the architecture of the homes, the squares and the Taylor Estate with its Manor and Carriage House are just beautiful! There were 12 of us staying in the Manor and Carriage Hosue. We are the parents of the Newport High School Jazz band who were performing in the Savannah Music Festival. What a host the town and Suzanne, the owner of the Estate, were to our group. We'd all like to thank the Schulz's for the use of the house. Convenient, Comfortable, and Beautiful decor. We had a fantastic time here!

Thank you for such a "welcome" when we arrived! The house also said "welcome!" and was wonderful, peaceful, and so much fun with our Michigan family being able to stay together for our family members' wedding. We loved the Savannah hospitality and your home also wrapped that same feeling around us. The area was perfect for walking up town and down and we always felt very safe and secure.

You take a leap of faith when you decide on a place to spend a 50th birthday weekend with the guys---we couldn't have been more pleased or picked a better home. Everything was so beautiful, beautifully appointed, convenient and accommodating. The Carriage/Manor house combination was perfect for the 10 of us. Everything we wanted to do was easily within walking / driving distance. Thank you for a wonderful time and for welcoming us into your lovely home.

We rented the Taylor Estate for the week of July 5-11th for our wedding party to stay in the week of the wedding, and I don't think there was a single person who wasn't in awe of this beautiful house! The house has everything in it that you would need for the week, all we had to do was get groceries. The location put us within walking distance of everything we wanted to get to in downtown savannah, and Kroger was only a couple blocks away for any little things we had to get. For a family get-away you absolutely cannot pick a better house to stay the week at. One thing I noticed right away the first time we stepped foot in the house was that the pictures do not do it justice, you really have to see this place to realize how beautiful it is. Suzanne was a great host, and also very easy to work with on anything that might come up. We would reccomend this estate to anyone looking for a relaxing week in savannah!

For years my mother has wanted to get my sisters, my aunt and my cousin together for a girls weekend...It finally happened. We decided to rent a house, with a little hesitation on how well it would accomodate 7 "Alpha" women. To my surprise it was THE perfect venue for our get-together. It was so perfect that we only went out to eat once and preferred making our own meals and just hanging out in this wonderful home. The manor offered a large kitchen great living space, very comfortable beds and the location allowed us to walk just about everywhere.

Great Weekend Getaway Home

A bunch of my girlfriends and I rented the house for a long weekend in October and we had a great time. The dining room, huge kitchen, outdoor patio and grill were perfect for dinners together. There was plenty of room for all 10 of us and everything was walking distance or a very short cab ride. It was the perfect house for us to have a reunion and many great memories were made here! We will definitely be coming back!

Taylor Manor was so beautiful! It was an absolute pleasure to stay there. Suzanne stopped by the first night with a complementary basket. She was so nice and very informative, answering any and all questions we had. The house was so close to everything in the historic district that there was almost no need to drive anywhere. We went to City Market, Tybee Island, the riverfront, the park, Paula Deen's, and so much more. Savannah is a very beautiful city, and when I visit again, I would like to stay there.

I Thoroughly enjoyed staying in this lovely historic home. The listing description and pictures were very accurate. The property is very well maintained and clean and it was very nice to have the fully appointed kitchen to prepare meals in. Suzanne was most gracious and I truly enjoyed every minute of my stay in her beautiful home and garden. I have no reservations recommending this rental. A lot of the attractions were within walking distance from the house although the group I was with drove to a few sites while we were there. Here is a list of some of the great places we visited: A Lady and Sons restaruant, Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House, The Savannah River Boat Cruise, The Pirate House Restaurant, Tybee Island, Fort Pulaski, tours through the Andrew Low home, William-Mercer home and the Girls Scout Birth place,Trolly sightseeing, shopping on the River Front and a walking Ghost tour! We also just kicked back and relaxed!

My family chose this historic Savannah property for our annual vacation and it proved to be the perfect decision. A friend who accompanied us was wheelchair bound and the handicapped accommodations were seemlessly incorporated into the design of the property, providing a delightful yet practical solution. Suzanne was an excellent host and we will always cherish Savannah's historical charm and friendly, colorful characters.

My stay at your home(It felt like I was at home) was great! The house had all the wonderful comforts of being at home. The rooms were decorated so beautiful and the beds were so comfortable. From the little touches of books to read and games to play to the huge comforts of televisions and dvd players, it made our trip to Savannah wonderful. The idea of having a complete kitchen with dishes and pans to having movies to watch, it was great. Thank you for having such an awesome place to stay within walking distance of so much of the city of Savannah.

As we planned our stay in Savannah we looked into several options for lodging. With a large group (14) we wanted to all stay together. The house and cottage where just what we where looking for. It went beyond our expections. Being in a restored old home in Savannah made our stay even more memorable. I would recomend this house to anyone who is planning on visiting Savannah. Thank you for making our stay in Savannah great.

If you want the total Savannah experience you cannot do better that staying with Suzanne in her lovely home!
My extended family came down to Savannah to attend a graduation ceremony. The entire estate is available and was extremely comfortable for our large group. For a couple or small family the tastefully decorated cottage is a great getaway or place for a romantic weekend. Suzanne is close by in their own home if needs arise, but the house is separate for the guests privacy. The house is several blocks from the river front, but it is on a quiet street with plenty of free parking which is a bonus in Savannah. Arrangements were easily made and the house was more than expected. I recommend it highly.

We rented the Taylor Estate for a combined bachelor/bachelorette party. There were 12 of us, and we had plenty of room! The house was beautiful - every room is like a dream! I couldn't believe it when we got there - it was even better than I had imagined.
We had a fabulous weekend - we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. We enjoyed a night in the house playing board games, and a night on the town at City Market.
We are definitely planning a trip back, and we will stay at Taylor Estate everytime we're in Savannah.
We loved our time in Savannah. Your home is perfect and we enjoyed the space and location. We were close to everything! Savannah Tours even came and picked up our group the front door. We enjoyed your historic district and going to Tybee Beach. We recommend eating at Mrs. Wilkes, The Pirate House, Clary's and The Firefly Cafe. Close by and the service and food were great. The photographer in our group especially loved walking about Forsythe Park, Bonneventure Cementary, and the riverfront. But the highpoint was simply sitting around during the evenings enjoying your courtyards (your chairs are terrific) & getting reacquainted with old friends. If we ever have an opportunity to return to Savannah, we will certainly check if your Estate is available. For a group as large as ours, it was perfect! So glad we found you!

What a terrific respite this has been for the 12 "girls" from the class of 64 celebrating this year of our 60th birthdays. Superb bedding! So comfy and lucious! Great Kitchen and easy to find supplies. Loved the warmth of your decor and the beauty of it all. We found ourselves close to everything downtown and enjoyed not having to drive. And of course, we relished having such a large space to relax and get to know each other all over again. Blessings and continued success!

We loved our family time in Savannah. Your home is perfect! We enjoyed the space and the location. If we ever have the opportunity to return we will certainly want to stay here again. Our daughter's wedding was wonderful! Such a perfect place for us to celebrate and prepare. God bless.

You've got the southern hospitality thing perfected! What a great time we had. The Carriage House is terrific - a marvelous getaway! The Manor is beautifully restored, furnished and we found it convenient to everything. A favorite memory will be our evening walks along beautiful Savannah's historic streets. Congratulations on a job well done!
