Description of the Sciacca vacation cottage rental

Sicily, in Sciacca, home base to major archaeological sites, stands our farm-house, recently converted in 6 self catering apartments for holiday makers.
Fireplace, terracotta floors, and exposed beam ceilings. Garden-style house, multilevel apartments: from Studios to 3 bedrooms and 2 storey country house. Central heating and air conditioning.
Our accommodations are furnished like an authentic Italian home, with a mixture of comfortable contemporary pieces and pretty antiques. Hi-fi with CD player, Sat.TV and standing fans, fully fitted kitchen, bathroom, lounge, and patio or garden. Also, an excellent calibre of housekeeping (including linen, towels and blankets) is provided. Complimentary Welcome Pack on arrival (organic olive oil, salt, sugar, coffee, tea, fruit juice, bread, jam, butter and cheese).
Extensive view, independence, privacy and comfort.
Children playground, boarding games, books and toys

Iron and board, laundry and washing lines.
We are resident in the premises.
1 Km. from Supermarket, town, 2 miles from the sea.

Our 6 Units:
-"Alice" is set on two floors Suitable for 3 pax. 55 sq. mts.
Ground floor: lounge with a well-equipped kitchen corner, and bathroom with tub.
1 floor: large mezzanine/living provided with a single bed + a large double bedroom
Private enclosed terrace 20 sq. Mt ca.
-"Monika" is a 50 sq. mt. multilevel apartment. Renovation with exposed beams and floor board upstairs. Large and well-equipped country kitchen with wood fire stove. 100 mq. Private garden. Air conditioned double bedroom, loft with single bed. Bathroom (shower).
-"Praga" renovation with exposed beams and floor board upstairs, is also multilevel. 45 sq. mt. Double bed upstairs. Bathroom (shower).
Downstairs, a large lounge with a small kitchen opens on a 20 sq. mt. private sheltered terrace.
-"Arianna" 45 sq. mt 1st floor, access by a short external stone staircase off which runs a terrace for outside dining. renovation with exposed beams. Consists in one double bedroom, one bedroom with bunk beds, bathroom (shower), air-conditioned living room + kichen corner.
60 sq. mt private garden with sheltered barbecue.
"Angelika", renovation with exposed beams, roughly 75 sq. m with two double bedrooms, one of which opening on a side room with 2 single beds, air conditioned living + kitchen corner. Bathroom (shower). Enclosed terrace 35 sq. m with flower-bed and a private sheltered barbecue.
-"Pauline", detached country house 120 sq. mt. renovation with exposed beams and floor board upstairs. Consists in a large living-room with open fireplace and piano.
Upstairs: 2 double bedrooms, 1 bedroom with 2 single beds (3rd bed possible), bathromom with tub.
The garden 160 sq.mt is for exclusive use of guests and comes with patio furniture. Sheltered barbecue.

After returning from Sicily 2 weeks ago, I just wanted to tell you that having stayed at Al vivaio Verdetecnica in Sciacca (pronounced "Shaka"), you can't go wrong. The proprietors are extremely helpful and relaxed people. They will do whatever they can to answer any questions and give suggestions or advice if needed. Plus, the room we had was more than adequate for our needs. It's a mini-apartment with a fridge, stove-top, living area, etc. You might ask for specific directions depending on where you are coming from. We had a hard time finding it for some reason. More than likely because we had spent the day at Segesta and were tired from all the walking.

We too visited a small town seeking relatives of my husbands. After finding some relations, we spent 1 1/2 days with them and had a truly remarkable and memorable time with them. If you have an opportunity to find anyone BEFORE you leave the states, try to make contact with them ahead of time. If you don't, don't be afraid to ask people around the town of any common names or relations. Most of the Sicilian people will do their best to help you.

If you go to the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, make sure you take with you some kind of book that explains what each temple / site is about. There was nothing there that had much of an explanation about what we were looking at, although if you are on a tour, that should be satisfactory.

My friend and I are staying at Verdetecnica right now. We arrived December 1 and leave Janaury 31. The place is wonderful. We have the small apt with the wood oven in the kitchen. (see the web site for pictures - they're accurate). The apt. is country rustic, very comfortable, warm, with quality appliances. Each apt. has it's own outdoor space surrounded by tall greenery. Ours has a big tree with yellow trumpet type flowers. The apts are attached to the owners home and are surrounded by their garden nursery. Even at this time of year we have flowers in bloom. You have access to your email in their office space whenever you need. There is also a guest clothes washer, laundry soap, iron, & clothes-line. They have a chicken coop with about 9 chickens and you are encourage to give them your kitchen scraps and take the fresh eggs. But the best thing about this place is the owners. Pascale and Salvatore are amazing! We have never met such welcoming, generous, helpful people. Each time we see them they are offering us something, fresh oranges, homemade pizza, wine, apple cake, etc. They have lent us novels, music, given us directions, called friends on our behalf, helped us with upcoming travel arrangements - they are super! As for attractions, September should be lovely for the beach, and you are very close to Agrigento and Selinunte (excellent ruins), & Palermo. We just saw an opera there last night, and it was excellent. There is a local bus service with a stop very close, or you can walk into town, about 3 km. We have taken the bus to Palermo also and it was fine. We have had a car for the last two weeks to visit the other major sites in Sicily so we don't know how the bus service is to these points.
