Description of the Sebago vacation cottage rental
Very private Maine cottage just 12 feet from the water's edge located on Peabody Pond in Sebago, Maine. There is a nice sandy beach with a gradual entry into the water. The lake is very clean and relatively undeveloped.Ideal for a family of 4 to 6, or two couples.Great for young children too! Good fishing, great sunrises, and lots of wildlife (there are loons on the lake). The lake is 65 feet deep at its deepest and is 2 miles long by about 1 mile wide. The cottage comfortably sleeps 6 and is located on a private one acre lot. Tandem kayak just added! The property also has three kayaks and a canoe with a 40 ft. long dock (and a nice side sitting dock) and swim float for great swimming.During the cooler fall months, there is a woodstove that heats the cottage well (walls are also insulated)and lots of warm blankets for sleeping in the evenings. Wood is provided. Foliage is beautiful with lots of apple picking and hiking in the area in September and October.

Fall weeks and prorated days (3 nights) are available for September and October.

Just OK

October 26, 2014

The house is cute and the location is perfect, so close to everything. It was great being within walking distance to the recreation center with the indoor/outdoor pools. However, there were some big drawbacks. We found the cleanliness of the house was not up to standards. The one and only kayak was unusable because the plug was missing in the bottom. The rowboat leaked. We couldn't use the canoe most of the time because of motor traffic on the lake. Our grandchildren couldn't enjoy the sandy beach because the water grass was so thick. There was a large hole in the screen door "sort-of" fixed with duct tape. Considering everything, it was just OK. We weren't miserable, but our vacation could have been so much better.

Quiet Retreat

August 22, 2011

Main cabin's master bedroom and living room are attractive with knotty pine walls/ceilings. Master bedroom mattress uncomfortable. Kitchen and bathroom need upgrading. No curtains . Black carpenter ants primarily in kitchen, some in living room and bathroom. Unable to dock boat and sharing a very small sandy area was not inviting. Did not expect such a wooded area with parking difficulties as well. Bunkhouse is only for sleeping. Owners most welcoming .

Perfect!

July 15, 2011

THE best vacation on Peabody Pond in a lovely cottage with everything you need. A beautiful view of water, trees, and sky. So quiet and peaceful. Kayaking, swimming, walking, fishing, reading, loons, moose, and rainbows. So very relaxing to unplug for a week!

Another Great Week on Peabody Pond

October 25, 2010

It was great to return for a third year--no anxiety because we knew the cottage would be clean and comfortable. It took us less than 10 minutes to unpack the food, grab our swimsuits and hit the beach. This is the perfect spot for reading and relaxing--and listening to calling loons. See you in 2011!

Cleanliness

October 12, 2010

We had a good time in the cottage. The only caution I can offer is to be prepared to clean the whole time you are there. We left the cottage in better condition than it was when we check in, and the cleaning deposit was withheld for bogus reasons. Literally, plan to spend your whole vacation cleaning someone elses house. Other than that - the vacation was awesome.

Good stay

September 27, 2010

My husband and myself, along with another couple stayed for 3 nights in this cabin in Maine. It was a good time. We checked out an area disc golf course one of the days and kayaked and canoed on the pond one of the other days. We only got rain the last day. We watched the bats come out for their dusk feeding which was pretty amazing. My husband caught a fish. The scenery was beautiful, it was just what we needed.

A Perfect Getaway!

October 8, 2009

Thank you for allowing us to vacation in your cabin, we wish we did not have to leave. The cabin is fantastic and so comfortable. The outside surroundings are so nice, especially the beautiful foliage. We loved the kayaks, canoe and really enjoyed the sights and sounds of the loons. What a peaceful getaway. We look forward to visiting again next year!

Peace and quiet

October 3, 2009

After 9 days of workshops, I had a 3 day break in my schedule. The Murphy's cottage was the perfect spot for recharging my batteries. Cate gave me complete info on finding the place, running the wood stove, and other miscellany. A notebook of info about attractions in the area helped my choice of activities. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll be staying here!

One of our favorite vacations!

July 16, 2008

We vacationed with four children (2 boys, ages 14 and 15, & 2 girls ages 9 & 11). We all the time of our lives! It was the perfect combination of relaxation, adventure, and fun! Although we enjoyed the area, our preference was to be at the cabin. The lake was beautiful, warm and quiet - kids LOVED the floating dock and the kyaks. We hiked on nearby trails, steamed Maine lobsters, & spent a day in Portland (only 1 hour away). The cabin was very comfortable and had everything we needed and more! We can't wait to go back!

A place to relax

July 10, 2008

This was a lovely place to spend a week with our family. The lake is beautiful and offers something for everyone: fishing, swimming, kayaking, or just sitting on the deck and watching the loons. We were amazed at the peace and quiet of the lake, even around the July 4th holiday!

Vacation trip for my parents

June 23, 2008

I rented the house for my parents for their anniversary. I talked to them everyday and they told me how great it was there. They enjoyed the peace and quiet and the wonderful view. Judging from what they've told me, I would recommend this to anyone. They've already talked about going back next year!
