Area Info
Just 4-½ hours North West from New York City and 1-½ hours South East from Buffalo on the US-Canadian border by road, you will discover the idyllic Finger Lakes Region which has also been voted the most beautiful wine region in the world.

In a setting of 9000 square miles, there are 11 Lakes and over 1000 waterfalls and numerous gorges, which were formed at the end of the ice age when tremendous grinding pressures gouged enormous holes in the land forming what is now the Finger Lakes Region of “Upstate New York”. These amazing Lakes range from 3 miles (5km) to 40 miles (64km) in length and from 30 feet (10m) to over 632 feet (194m) in depth! Native American Legend says that the Fingers Lakes were the impression left behind by the creator when he reached down to bless the land. Whatever the truth, the Finger Lakes are a wonderful place to escape to, to “just get away” and where you can relax and do either very little or do a lot. To explore the many exciting places dotted around the region and to have that perfect vacation.

Sailing in the Finger Lakes whilst you are here, why not take a leisurely drive or wine tour to visit some of over 70 award winning wineries and vineyards, which have joined together to form five wine trails. Shop at a variety of stores including antique shops, boutiques, bookshops and outlet malls. Visit the many festivals, craft fairs, museums, historic sites and other activities that take place throughout the year or simply enjoy the hospitality of the people of the Finger Lakes. For the more active and adventurous visitors to the region, there are numerous summer adventure activities such as canoeing, kayak, sailing, wind surfing, hiking around the 25 State Parks to take in the Natural beauty, swimming or why not take a cruise on Seneca Lake or Cayuga Lake or visit the Red Newt Winery in Hector which not only has stunning wines created by David Whiting but also offers some of the finest cuisine available in the region, expertly prepared and all dishes served at affordable prices?

There are also several first class golf courses nearby including the Seneca Lake Country Club where you can also rent golf equipment.

For a change of pace, why not take a day out to visit Niagara Falls, which is only a short 1-½ hour drive away or to Sodus Bay which is on lake Ontario and takes just a 40 minute drive. So little time yet so much to do and that’s’ just in the spring and summer! During the fall and through the winter the experience continues with the spectacular scenery of changing colors of Autumn leaves on the trees, the harvest of crops and grapes for wine production, Halloween and Pre Christmas shopping and when the snow finally arrives, Skiing, tobogganing, sleigh rides or snow mobiles. And all of this, just a taste of the Finger Lakes Experience!

Be Very Careful!

August 24, 2014

Customer service is nonexistent at Cobtree. Be very careful! These people give the impression of never having a day of customer service training in their lives. Customer feedback should be important both to learn and to generate repeat customers, but the attitudes of Jane and Bob are “grab mine, never mind about yours.” A family member signed up for space at Cobtree more than a year in advance. Then, with nearly a year’s notice that the family would not be using the facility, Cobtree demanded full payment for the entire period. Discussions with the owner gave no satisfaction. We tried to be unemotional and polite but were met with a stone wall. Examples of the conversations: “It is none of your business how many days we have rented or when they were rented.” “Take me to court – others have been forced to pay.” “It would be unfair to all those other people who have been forced to pay if accommodation is made for…” We released our reservation and another party was accommodated (for five days instead of three including the weekend) but Robert still demanded payment for the day that did not completely overlap. So be careful about the terms and conditions – they are designed to extract maximum rent even if no service is provided. Observation of occupancy on the website over the course of a year indicates that these modest facilities on an open hillside are rarely rented more than 1/3 of the time - except perhaps for college graduation week. Read the comments of others who have tried to work with them on a variety of issues and heed the warnings. I did not, expecting that some customers might be unreasonable but that good nature and friendly interactions would yield a mutually satisfactory resolution to problems. It does not. Emails will be courteous until the money is sealed but interactions will be choppy and rude. Cobtree will only be defensive and unresponsive. We will never consider this establishment again!

What a great first visit to Cobtree this past week for an extended weekend in Hemlock. Great surrounding and property along with a beautiful cabin that was immaculate and very well appointed. Everything had been thought of relative to appointmentsâ¦way beyond what we normally encounter for rental units.Robert is a really dedicated property owner who is very willing to please and help make the stay optimal. Weâll be back in July with 14 people in two cabinsâ¦canât wait to return to this idyllic place.
