Shelter Island, Contemporary and Private
|Per week:||$2,800 - $3,990|
The kitchen has a central island bench, Sub Zero fridge, gas stove, dishwasher plus an open bar area perfect for breakfast or drinks before dinner. The kitchen is trimmed with top designer accessories. The DWR modern dining table can seat up to 14 guests fully expanded. The living room overlooks the deck and lush garden and is sun filled all afternoon. The media room on the second level has a flat screen TV and cable and is connected to the 6-speaker surround sound Bose system. Also suitable for CD’s or wireless connection with your i-Tunes or i-Pod connection. The house is quipped with Wi-Fi and is password protected. There is central AC throughout the house. The spacious deck has comfortable sofa seats, a table and chairs seating 8 guests and a gas BBQ grill.
The garage can accommodate one car and there is additional parking on property. There is direct access to the house from the garage. Wades beach is just a few minutes away as is the Mashomack Preserve - perfect for long walks. Visit nearby island beaches and enjoy the charming outdoor shower before relaxing under the trees with a good book, dining on the charming deck or visit local galleries, shops and vineyards on nearby North and South Forks. If you like simple modern contemporary design and art with no clutter and a ton of privacy and lots of sun light then this is your house for the summer.
There is a 4th of July fireworks display (this year held on the following week) on crescent beach (aka Sunset Beach) which is reminiscent of small town America: crowds picnic on the beach, with boats moored in the harbor - both cheering or honking approval of the display. Additionally, 1/3rd of the island is owned by the nature conservancy. Called Mashomack preserve, and just a short walk from the house, there are hiking trails of varying lengths, with wildlife and views that will take your breath away. How can it be that a place, relatively close to NYC, can be safe enough to leave the house doors unlocked and the keys in the car while you're at the grocery store? Truly a sheltered island.

Reviews for this vacation home rental in Shelter Island, New York
Relax on Shelter Island
September 20, 2013
Having spent 1 week at our daughter's house in Brooklyn and several hectic days in Manhattan, we relaxed for 1 week at this beautiful property less than 5 minutes drive to Wades beach. The property was very private with excellent views from the terracing, and was of a very high standard. Clearly the owner is very artistic and has immaculate taste. It was almost like living in an art gallery, although fully and tastefully equipped in all respects. We would have no hesitation in recommending this property to any discerning holiday maker looking for a relaxing vacation.

Modern, artsy, and chic: tranquil and relaxing

If you are looking for a modern home with all the amenities and an artistic flair, this is the BEST place to be in the Hamptons. It is appointed with a subzero refrigerator, gas grill, and all the cooking utensils you'll need. The house had an airy, open feel with three master suites with three baths off them. Central AC was a must for August! The new high efficiency washer and dryer made taking my little one to the beach everyday a breeze. Shelter Island is a lovely, private hidden gem in the Hamptons, with unspoiled natural beauty (quiet beaches, Mashomack Preserve, lovely coves, beautiful sunsets.) Deer wander freely all over the island. Because you have to access the island by ferry, there is much less traffic on the island and a much safer place for kids. Most things can be accessed by bikes, if you bring them. If you arrive by the North Ferry, pick up lots of wine, fruits and veggies from the local vineyards and farms in the North Fork, which is a picturesque drive. Sag Harbor is a nice little town, and the Dockhouse is a great spot for reasonable fried clams and lobster, much like those dockside places along Cape Cod. Personally, I'd pass on much of the stereotypical "East Hampton" village--it looks like a Ralph Lauren-designed stage set with the usual nouveau riche and Hampton Jitney Sex in the City wannabes flocking around, but it does make for amusing scenery. Other food recommendations: LeVain Bakery in Wainscot for the best cookies, Janda's Bakery in North Fork for pies, LT's for burgers and shakes in Sag Harbor, Sweet Tomatoes for pasta and fish in Shelter Island ( with dog-friendly side patio). Take your little ones to Crescent Beach which has a long stretch of shallow water and a lifeguard, and the Sunset bar close by for breakfast. You will actually return home refreshed and relaxed after a week on the island. Before I forget, Penni Bonaldi is the nicest person you could possibly rent from, and goes out of her way to make your stay a comfortable one. She is awesome! And honest! (unlike some other person on this website who cancelled my sister's reservation after she sent in the deposit at the last minute so she squeeze in another person who wanted a longer stay. How tacky!). Penni is the best. You will not regret it. Did I forget to mention the interesting, eclectic modern artwork around the house, the outdoor shower and the little turtle pond? Too many good things to say about this place.

Great place. An excellent location (Shelter Island is wonderful) and a really good layout to the house meant 3 couples didn't get in each other's way. The wireless network and Bose system with ipod dock were greatly appreciated and with the wonderful bathroom products provided it was a home away from home.

Beautifully appointed home in a serene setting

Our family rented this home sight unseen for 2 long weekends in August 2009. We were thrilled that the house was even more impressive in person than in photos. The interior decoration is impeccable--each room has a distinct style and is punctuated with unique, beautiful pieces, and yet they tie in with each other in subtle ways which make the whole place perfectly flow together. The kitchen is stocked with modern high-end dishes and appliances. The landscaping of the grounds is particularly gorgeous and the huge protected backyard was a perfect setting for our young children to play in for hours everyday. The home has an open, airy feel to it which lends to an atmosphere of easy, kick-back summer life. Even the bathrooms are stocked with yummy products for baths and showers. We felt like we were at a 5-star villa! Best of all, the owner is very professional, responsive and friendly. We can't recommend this vacation home highly enough!
