Description of the Shelter Island vacation home rental
Contemporary, light filled 3 bedroom, 3 bath home located near South Ferry with easy access to the Hamptons. The lovely open floor plan features a living room with vaulted ceiling and fireplace, state-of-the art kitchen and dining room, all having access to a spacious deck overlooking an acre of green lawns, lush foliage and a small koi pond. The bedrooms have convenient separation with a master suite and guest suite on the main floor and another bedroom and lofted media room on the second level, which overlooks the open-planned living and dining area below. Each bedroom has it’s own en-suite bathroom, walk in closets and garden views.
The kitchen has a central island bench, Sub Zero fridge, gas stove, dishwasher plus an open bar area perfect for breakfast or drinks before dinner. The kitchen is trimmed with top designer accessories. The DWR modern dining table can seat up to 14 guests fully expanded. The living room overlooks the deck and lush garden and is sun filled all afternoon. The media room on the second level has a flat screen TV and cable and is connected to the 6-speaker surround sound Bose system. Also suitable for CD’s or wireless connection with your I-Tunes or I-Pod connection. There is central AC throughout the house. The spacious deck has comfortable sofa seats, a table and a gas BBQ grill.
The garage can accommodate 2 cars as well as enough parking for an additional 6-8 cars. There is direct access to the house from the garage. Plus use of a bicycle to ride to the beach or Mashomack Preserve just 5 minutes away. Visit nearby island beaches and enjoy the charming outdoor shower before relaxing under the trees with a good book, dining on the charming deck or visit local galleries, shops and vineyards on nearby North and South Forks. If you like simple modern cotemporary design with no clutter and a ton of privacy and lots of sun light then this is your house for the summer.
Shelter Island is 100 miles from NYC. Shelter island is a unique, eight-square mile paradise the native Americans called 'an island sheltered by islands' because of it's position between the north and south forks of eastern long island within the great Peconic bay. Access is provided by a 4 minute car-ferry ride from North Haven (sag harbor) to the south.
It has recently gained popularity as the 'un-Hampton', offering a laid-back attitude, along with the best eastern long island has to offer. There is easy access to the sound beaches and vineyards of the north fork, the ocean beaches and trendy havens of the Hamptons, and the wild beauty of Montauk.
On the island, many noted restaurants offer fine dining, people watching and star sightings: vine street cafe, planet bliss, and sunset beach resort (owned by hotelier Andre Balazs) to name a few - the latter with a vibe and nightlife reminiscent of the south of France. There are many beautiful sandy bay beaches - a weekly beach sticker can be purchased for a nominal cost- either populated or isolated - and a fresh water pond, while the ocean beaches of Sagaponack are a 20 minute drive away - a multitude of swimming and bathing options the island also offers kayak rentals, where one can explore the many inlets and creeks, as well as a deserted island!
There is a 4th of July fireworks display (this year held on the following week) on crescent beach (aka sunset beach) which is reminiscent of small town America: crowds picnic on the beach, with boats moored in the harbor - both cheering or honking approval of the display.
Additionally, 1/3rd of the island is owned by the nature conservancy. Called Mashomack preserve, and just a short walk from the house, there are hiking trails of varying lengths, with wildlife and views that will take your breath away.
How can it be that a place, relatively close to NYC, can be safe enough to leave the house doors unlocked and the keys in the car while you're at the grocery store?
Truly a sheltered island.

- Deposits: 100% of rate upon booking. $1,000.00 security deposit. No discount is given on cleaning fee. Cancellations are accepted with full deposit refund when notified in writing 30 days or more, prior to date of guest arrival, as outlined in the contract.
- Other Fees: 180.00 weekly cleaning fee deducted from Security Deposit. General cleaning, vacuum, Kitchen, bathrooms, washing of all linens and towels. Cleaning is every Monday.
