Excellent place for our family reunion!

The Shenandoah River Lodge provided a very good spot for our family reunion. It is in a very picturesque setting, the river is close but not too close for the small children, and the arrangement of the house was perfect for our family. The kitchen was very well stocked with small appliances and cooking and serving items as well as plates, cups, flatware, etc. And all the appliances. small and large, worked well. Doug, the owner, was quite generous with delicious vegetables from his garden and very accommodating if we needed anything such as bringing us an extra crib for the other baby. Our grandchildren loved the time we had there especially fishing in the river and swimming in Doug's swimming hole. One day we went to Luray Caverns, an easy trip with an hour tour of the caverns and a stroll through their automotive museum and shops. Markets with fresh local produce are not far away. We all had a great time! Consider the lodge a quiet country retreat!

Owner's reply:

I am on a comity to create a agra artisan trail here in Shenandoah county. The goal is to create a electronic our guide of the many a varied points of interest that will be within 40 minutes of the lodge.
We hope to have it ready for the 2013 summer season.

One of the best vacation homes!

My girlfriends and I were traveling with our dogs and we had a great time-- so did the "children." Running around like crazy in an open space, big rooms and space inside the house and we got to relax in the hot tub at night. What a nice experience, we're hoping to come back again next time.

We had an absolutely perfect 4 days at the Shenandoah house! The river was a nice walk down the woody hill, where we fished and canoed, thanks to our hosts, who were so kind in offering not only use of their canoes but portage to excellent fishing spots! The photos don't do the house justice - great expanses of fields and woods all around, very private, and the outdoor stone patio was huge and so comfortable, we ate every meal there, built fires in the chimenea, lounged in the hot tub looking up at the stars...Heaven! The house itself was gorgeous, so many inviting rooms for relaxing, lovely bedrooms and nice big bathrooms, and a very well outfitted kitchen. We enjoyed the cute towns nearby but we loved the house so much we hardly left. We can't wait to go back!
