Description of the Shingletown vacation cabin rental
The house is located in Shasta County in the picturesque town of Shingletown (about 38 miles east of Redding). The elevation is at 4000 foot level. This area of the Sierra Cascade mountain Range is simply a hidden gem in California. Lassen Volcanic National Park is only 12 miles away. A 45 minute drive to Burney Falls. Lake McCumber is 4 miles away. Other nearby attractions- the Wild Horse Sanctuary, Anselmo Vinyards, the wineries in Manton, Subway Caves, Sundial Bridge in Redding, Lake Shasta.
Area Information
The small town of Shingltown has a grocery store (Reeds market- will have all of your grocery needs), 2 gas stations, a Pizza /Food/Bar restaurant, Shingle Cafe (mexican-american food), a medical center, veterinarian, gift/thrift shops and a weekly Farmer's Market (Tuesdays 4-6pm) throughout the Summer and Fall season.

Spent my wife's birthday weekend at the cabin and couldn't ask for anything more perfect! Cabin had everything we needed and the kids had a great time hiking and playing in the creek. Ken was quick at responding to all of the email. Great place to escape for a weekend!

I'm tempted to write a negative review, just so that I won't have to compete with anyone else the next time I want to rent this cabin! It was the perfect long-weekend getaway for my family. The cabin is modern, very nicely furnished, and spotlessly maintained. It overlooks a wooded creek and is nestled far from the main road. The proximity to both the national park and to town makes it easy to spend the day hiking or sledding and then go enjoy an awesome meal at the Anselmo Vineyards (20 minutes from the cabin). The only warning I'll give is that if you go during the winter, make sure you have a vehicle that can handle icy roads. The cabin is at the top of a short but steep hill that collects ice.

Winter Wonderland

Our family spent three wonderful days playing in the snow and enjoying this vacation home. The house is beautiful and comfortable. The kitchen is a joy to cook in and the views from the living room windows that go from floor to ceiling are stunning. The snowy landscape looking down to the creek is like a Christmas card. We enjoyed being in the snow and it was lovely to come into the house and warm up by the fire with a cup of cocoa. There is no WIFI or satellite TV (although there is a TV and DVD player), which was exactly what we were looking for. We played games, read, put together puzzles, and watched a movie each night. The three bedrooms have comfortable beds and plenty of warm blankets and comforters. Our kids each had their own bedroom, which they loved. The large downstairs bathroom/laundry room was near the door, so it was the perfect place to put snow boots and coats so we didn't track snow into the house. The main roads to the house were plowed, but icy. The driveway to the house was too snowy and icy for us to traverse (even with snow chains), but we had space to park at the end of the driveway and just walked to the house. For winter stays when there is snow, a 4WD vehicle would make driving easier. However, we don't have a 4WD and were still able to enjoy our stay near Mt. Lassen. Just remember to drive slowly and safely! Our kids (aged 9 and 12) loved every minute of our snowy vacation. The home owners were so helpful and went out of their way to make sure that we arrived to a warm house. Great hospitality! We'll definitely stay in this lovely home again.

Our stay at this incredibly cute cabin in Shingletown, was absolutely, 110% what we were needing (and wanting!)out of a short vacation to the snow for the New Years weekend. From the get go, (given we were so late in the game to book a cabin), Ken made the rental process extremely easy and an absolute breeze compared to some experiences we have had prior to this. He was not only incredibly reasonable in pricing, but let us know of the conditions and what to expect, plowed the road so our drive up to the cabin wasn't so difficult, and even started a fire upon our arrival to the cabin...It was such a welcoming and inviting stay we had to keep asking ourselves, WHAT'S THE CATCH!? The kitchen was great for our party of 6 to dine and play games in, each room had its own bathroom, and its all very much up to date. Its a perfect size for a medium to large party, and was filled with warm touches in each room ( we LOVED that the couches were facing the fire place..and NOT the television! :) ) The creek behind the cabin was so gorgeous we actually spent a decent amount of time OUTSIDE sledding and playing in the snow. We laughed, we played games and celebrated the new year with our closest friends and couldn't have asked for a more perfect place to do it at! We are planning to book our summer stay there in the upcoming month, and keeping this rental as our "go to" home for years to come. Thank you, Ken, for all the hospitality and such an awesome stay, WE ENJOYED IT SO MUCH!

Fantastic place to stay!

My family and I spent a week over Christmas at Ken's cabin (modern home with a cabin feel, is more like it). It was a wonderful experience! There was a major storm that provoked a power outage of many square miles, but that didn't spoil the fun. Ken was ultra-nice and helpful, making sure we had wood for the fire, that the stove worked, we found candles, etc. A white Christmas was what we wanted, so a little lack of power wasn't going to stop anything. The creek going through the property is beautiful, the distance to Lassen is really convenient, and the house is ultra-comfortable. We'll definitely be coming back to this serene oasis!

Our new, favorite way to camp!

This year we decided to rent a cabin rather than tent camp for our annual weekend up to Lassen. We are so pleased with the experience we may never tent camp there again. The cabin was lovely and the four boys, between our two families, loved the creek access. We were able to watch them from the deck while relaxing. The best thing was having a comfortale place to return to after spending our days hiking and kayaking in Lassen National Park. Both of our families can't wait to return!

This cabin is situated in beautiful woods, and left my family and I with a feeling of serenity, that we haven't felt in a long time. The owner had thought of just about everything to make our stay enjoyable, including the most dog friendly environment, outside of our home, that we, and our three dogs, have ever experienced. Our only negative, which didn't , reflect on the owner, was the fire raging at My. Lassen, which made the atmosphere rather smokey, at times. Overall, I would highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a peaceful, picturesque, dog friendly, well kept place to commune with nature, or make their home base for other activities in the area.

The cabin/house is huge as the description says: 3 bed rooms, 3 bath rooms, big veranda. The creek on the property was great for the kids. They also loved the deers that stopped by each evening in front of the house. The cabin is really close to the park. And the best of all: It was really, really clean. We had a wonderful and relaxing vacation!

Just what we were looking for in a cabin with modern accents. Such a charming exterior and well appointed living area. We spent most of our free time on the deck which overlooks the creek reading, playing games, or just listening to the creek. Home is well insulated and though hot ouside stayed cool indoors. There was not one car we saw pass the house . The quiet is amazing. Creekside there is an array of seating and a hamock for napping. Walk to water is downhill, but not strenuous. At night there are solar lights placed around home marking outside areas. There is a salt lick that attracts deer and other wldlife. Cell phones do work in this home and a small tv for videos. Kids wished it was cold so we could use fireplace. This home is so inviting and at such a good price it is on our top ten homes to revisit. Did I mention three bathrooms fatastic .

Serene and Rejuvenating

My husband and I spent a week at this lovely cabin on a quiet gravel road. The house was very comfortable, deck relaxing, and nearby creek very restorative. We spent hours at the creek. Ken, the owner of the cabin was attentive, courteous, and accommodating. Thanks, Ken! The opportunity to experience wildlife is ample in the area. We observed an osprey, bald eagle, sapsuckers, warblers, and other species at a nearby lake. Lassen National Park is AMAZING!!!! We recommend this property and area, as our experience was positive. This cabin is absolutely adorable and the setting is picturesque! It was so relaxing to just sit on the back deck, enjoying the peace and quiet and wonderful creek sounds. The owners have provided you with anything you will need, which is a definite plus. We were able to cook all our own meals, relax and enjoy the setting. We didn’t even turn on the TV once. The beds were comfortable and even on the hot summer days we were there the cabin stayed cool. We started keeping a tally of all the great wildlife we encountered including jack rabbits, deer, squirrels and even frogs. We only wish we were able to stay longer, our next trip here will definitely be longer and we can’t wait to enjoy the winter snow and use the fireplace.

We had a wonderful time staying in this beautiful cabin with it's serene surroundings. Both we and our friends enjoyed it so much! It is definitely the most pleasant rental experience and the best cabin we have rented so far. Lassen volcanic park is only a few miles away making our hiking trips easy on driving. The cold and wet weather we had at the beginning of our stay, made the heat from the fire place really enjoyable in the evening after a day long hiking. Sitting along the side of the creek in the sunny late afternoon or in the morning, sipping coffee, listening to the soothing water sounds... was such a great experience. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us. Hope to go back when we get a chance!

Incredible Creekside

We stayed at the cabin in May. We really liked the color scheme ,artwork and the overall ambiance of the place. The cabin is well designed and very comfortable with windows placed for maximum exposure to the woods and natural setting. It was a little chilly but the weather was mostly clear which was great for trout fishing! My brother and I were able to cook easily in the modern kitchen. We checked out the animal life outside the window, including rabbits and a deer while dining... The creek was peaceful and made a great backdrop to the cabin along with the hiking trails. The people in Shingletown were really helpful and we had some great daytrips. I hope to stay in the cabin again next year!

Scrapbooker's Delight

We had a delightful time for our scrapbooking weekend. The coloring and lighting in this cabin was so happy and bright that we didn't need any extra lighting. The beds were comfy, kitchen was nice and spacious, and the house was cozy and warm with all the fireplaces. Lots of laughs took place. We will most definately be back!!

We had a nice time in Ken's well appointed cabin. Really nice kitchen and with it being only 3 years old everything was in good shape. Lots of great biking and walking out the door, and our toddlers loved throwing rocks in the stream just down the hill. Only about 15 minutes to town & to Lassen Nat'l park entrance & the sledding hill. Ken was easy to work with and offered great communication. Thanks!

What a lovely cabin! The house was beautiful and the area was beautiful too. We lacked for nothing. The kitchen was stocked with all of the items that we needed with which to cook, plenty of towels, comfortable beds...the view was amazing! It really was perfect. Our family loved this beautiful cabin! It was a wonderful place to come home to after visiting nearby Lassen Volcanic National Park. With 3 bedrooms, there was plenty of space for our family of 5. The kids loved the creek out back and all of the deer in the area. It was a very relaxing and comfortable experience all around. I would love to come back and stay again!

This house/cabin was absolutely adorable with every amenitie possible. Great views, very clean and spacious.Would definately stay there again.

We enjoyed a lovely family vacation at this peaceful cabin. Very nice accommodations with easy access to Lassen Park. Beautiful surroundings; we had deer in the back yard and watched cattle cross the creek. A great place for kids and adults alike to relax and/or play. Highly recommended.

I am a local resident who was looking for a good cabin near Mt. Lassen to accomidate my family who was visiting from the east coast and found this wonderful cabin online at a terrific rate. This well cared for cabin is more like a home than a vacation rental and is well appointed. The location is idyllic and to lie on the hammock or just sit by the stream reading is a great way to unwind. Lassen park is a few minutes away and offers 10k ft hiking with a variety of terrain. Redding is close by if you really cannot cope with the peaceful woods and local shops are on hand within 5 minutes for provisions. And wine. Would I recommend it? Definitely.

Excellent cabin for our family vacation

We so enjoyed our stay at your beautiful cabin. The first word out of our mouths as we drove up to the home was "WOW!!" As we entered the gorgeous front door, we were delighted with the decorating, cleanliness, warm furnishings and comfortable beds. The time on the deck, listing to the water was so peaceful. The miles of trails were wonderful.Excellent location, quiet road, perfect floor plan, we had a blast! Minutes to Mt. Lassen park, 45 minutes to Burney Falls. We even drove as far as Weaverville in Trinity County. Lots to do and explore. Thank you so much! We look forward to a return visit in the hopefully, near future.
