Its main communication road (and the only one) is the one which comes from Merida – Hunucma – Sisal.

Sisal is site of an important historic, cultural and natural legacy.

Importance of Sisal is clear. This town limits to the west to State Reserve named “El Palmar”. Since 2003 UNAM opened a campus in Sisal and offers undergraduate and graduate courses oriented to marine studies.

Sisal is a small and calm town; its inhabitants are dedicated to fishing activities and characterized by being warm and kind with visitors.

Anyone coming from the city will appreciate its easy going atmosphere along with its beautiful beach, sand is white and water is green and blue with small or no waves, great for swimming or just enjoy landscape and nature. Watching sunset is a pleasure to enjoy every day.

Nearby Sisal the existence of amazing coral reefs makes it an ideal hub for snorkel or scuba diving. Also boat and fishing tours are good options for fun.

Sisal historic legacy goes back not just to prehispanic times, but its downtown also preserves buildings which are representative of the colonial period such as the Marine Custom Building, the Fort of Santiago also called El Castillo and the Lighthouse.

Emperor´s Carlota Amalia house and cannons decorating its main square are witnesses of the defense of Sisal from Pirates.

“El Cenote” is a natural clear water spring hidden in El Palmar reserve, it is great for swimming as long as the crocodile is not around.

“El Mirador” is a viewpoint facing the Reserve; there are two of them built of wood from which bird watching is fascinating, along with the petrified forest and stunning sunsets.

The Ruins, a few inhabitants know the way towards mayan edifications located within El Palmar Reserve.

Turtle spawning, along to the coast turtles of different varieties such as white, carey and caguama lay their eggs on the sandy beach.

Kim's Journey to Sisal, Mexico

September 29, 2014

D.H.Lawrence wrote Mornings in Mexico in the 1920's and these short essays of his adventure inspired my own travels to Mexico, which I began in the late 1970's. I have long wanted to experience the calm and quiet of an authentic town in Mexico, a place to live where I would be welcome to exist just as I am. A place where time is divided into 3 elements; dia, tarde and noche. I did not realize that place was called Sisal. For the purposes of this vacation and exploration, I searched many rental homes in the area but returned time after time to Senor Perez's website. I began my inquiries in May and very early on, I had the feeling that after many years of travelling to Mexico, this trip would be profound for me. I travel a great deal by myself as my family is grown and live far away and I have to say that I enjoy it very much. I did get lost the first day despite Ricardo's excellent directions. I admit to being stubborn and a little too self sufficient, but Ricardo was patiently waiting. The house in Sisal is all at once calming, quiet, breezy and inviting. And just as the breeze flows naturally, so does the house from the front door to the bedroom and bathroom, then to the kitchen and living room which flow to the outdoor space, where the patio and swimming pool wait quietly for you. The white sand and the ocean are there at the end of the pool and beckon you to explore and gather shells and swim in the shallow warm waters. I did not want for anything as the entire house is well equipped. There are plenty of linens, towels, dishes and DVD's and tv which I rarely used, as the oceanview and nature are the things to watch. I cooked for myself most days, but when I ate out, the restaurants were friendly and delicious. The shops are a 5 minute walk away and have everything you need. Ricardo has designed every aspect of this house and it is truly a reflection of his own demeanor. The house is calm and quiet, simple yet very elegant, open and welcoming. Fortunatly for me, he was staying in town while I was there and his passion and knowledge of Sisal and the Yucatan served to confirm that I had made a wise choice. I have just reserved the house for next year. Please, do not go to Sisal if you are looking for Senor Frog's, but go if you want to connect with yourself or your family and if you want to connect with nature again. And most definitely, go if you want to see flamingos fly overhead each night at 6 o'clock. Kim Coston 9/11/14 - 9/2

Kicking back in Sisal

December 26, 2012

Very relaxing 2 week stay in Senor Ricardo's beach front home. We found everything at the Casa Blanca as advertised. The house was very well equipped and comfortable, the pool was refreshing and well maintained. Ricardo's friend Germaine, and neighbors Vaquero and Finni provided great on site support and we always felt safe and looked after. Sea shell hunting on the beach was amazing and on the door step. The town of Sisal has a very friendly atmosphere, with good dining spots, both street food and sit down service. The tiendas had a ready supply of basics and it was a short collectivo ride to find anything else we wanted. The owner, Ricardo, was a fabulous and accomodating host with a great knowledge of the area. We would recommend this rental to anyone looking to relax and have an authentic Mexican village experience. Muchas gracias!

Owner's reply:

This house posses both the felling of a clear open space with the intimacy of various smaller ambiences. We rented mid-Jan to mid-March, 2008 - and could not have been happier. We loved the house and its location: right on the beach and a five minute stroll into the village. Owner Ricardo has painted a very accurate picture of Sisal. This "undiscovered" fishing coummunity is not for everyone! But if your idea of perfection is no gift shops, no t-shirts, and not many people like yourself around, then go for it. We returned home feeling that we had experienced a very special slice of Mexican life.
