Description of the Skowhegan vacation home rental

One of the greatest features of our home is that guests can swim on a sandy shore right from their back yard! We are located on Lake Wesserunsett - a picturesque, spring-fed lake - great for boating, swimming and fishing. We provide two kayaks, paddle boat with awning, private dock and additional mooring for a large boat.

The world famous Skowhegan School of Art and historic Lakewood Theater with Restaurant and adjacent Golf Course are all here. This is a peaceful, beautiful place - great for relaxing.The comfortable-temperature swimming lake with sandy bottom and easy access from the shore or dock makes for a wonderful time for all - little ones too. Located conveniently a few miles from large store shopping, you are minutes away from basic necessities.

Our Maine Home Camp sleeps 10 in four roomy bedrooms, complete with linens and kitchen necessities.The first floor includes a center rock fireplace and wood stove with large windows facing the lake, keeping everyone comfortable – shaded in summer, and sunny in the fall when there are spectacular colors. This two thousand sq. ft. home (the bottom floor is twelve hundred sq. ft. and two upper floors total eight hundred sq. ft.) sleeps 10 with one room with a king, one with a queen, one with two doubles and one with a double. The kitchen is fully equipped with stove, oven, refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker and the two bathrooms have showers in both, one with a bathtub. Washer and dryer, iron and board are also provided. For your convenience we have cable and internet access.

The home has 110 feet of lake frontage, going back more than 300 feet with good neighbors. The lake itself has historic old homes from the Eighteen Hundreds and yet has the classic "On Golden Pond" feel - complete with our own loons. On a shady, calm day you can see a quarter 10 feet deep.

This setting is ideal for kids to have loads of fun swimming, fishing from the dock, playing and feeling safe and secure. Masks, snorkels and fishing poles are provided. Pets are welcome as well. After a fun-filled day, you can anticipate breathtaking sunsets and stunning views of the mountains right where you are!

Area Information

A peaceful destination, with everything you need at the Camp, yet Walmart and Hannaford grocery/pharmacy are minutes away in downtown Skowhegan. You'll find that Skowhegan offers shopping, restaurants, movie theater, miniature golf and Gifford's Famous Ice Cream. Rafting the gorgeous Kennebec River and the Lakewood Theater (oldest summer theater in America) are additional treats close at hand.

We want you to enjoy your stay inside and out, so we have added new furniture and provided amenities to make your stay even more enjoyable! New paddleboat and kayaks for time out on the lake. Fishing from our dock has been a special delight for young and old - we provide fishing poles, bait and gear are 10 minutes away in town. Flatscreen TV/videos for indoor relaxation. Basketball hoop/ball and Volleyball and a variety of games are provided. Outdoor barbeque, fire pit and lounge chairs are great for relaxing at the end of the day while you enjoy the sunset.

Drive 10 minutes to hiking trails along the Kennebec River at Coburn Park (twelve and a half acres) with a riverside picnic area -- walking distance from downtown Skowhegan, off Route 2 (Water Street). Check out the Sunday park concerts, mid-July through August. If you don't want to drive, take a hike around our own Lake Wesserunsett.

Kennebec River Gorge whitewater rafting is also a great option between May to October. Ski, snowmobile and ice fish during the winter.

If you're fair goers, don't miss the Skowhegan State Fair in early August each year!

Maine Home Camp - August 2012

Our family had a wonderful time at the Maine Camp. The fantastic views, great weather and cozy setting made it the perfect place for our family to come together. Family came from Florida, California and North Carolina to be able to be with our kids and grand kids that live in Skowhegan. We had several opportunities to have family and friends gather at the camp. Everything we needed was there for entertainment for adults and kids. We hope to make it an annual event.

Came home for the weekend needed a place to stay, rented the camp and I must say the improvments are wonderful. Kids loved the flat scrren and all the dvds. New paint looks great along with the new furniture.Has come a long way from last year. Can't wait to go again

Sitting outside around the camp fire after an evening kayaking trip along the shore. So relaxing, Up for another early kayaking paddle around the shore while everything is still and folks are just stqrting to stir. 2 days was not long enough!

We had our family reunion here! It was great, lots of room, nice lawn for the kids, play games and had great BBQ's. Small sanding beach for the toddlers to play. The adulted had a great time fishing and watching the sun raising & sunsets(great adult time)Can't wait to go back again for the 4th of July week.....great place to stay...My family can't wait to go back for our yearly stay the 4th of July

The house was clean and spacious enough for two small families. Furnishings a little sparse. We were the first rentals after it was cleaned up for vacation use. The location is lovely. Isolated and quiet but less than 10 minutes from some big stores and restaurants.
