Description of the Smith Mountain Lake vacation home rental

The Gate House was built in 2008 and is a beautiful place to spend a week on the lake. The 3000 square foot house is well laid out for relaxing and entertaining. In a place where most rental houses have a long set of stairs to the lake, the Gate House has a meandering concrete walkway.

The house is beautifully decorated in a "beachy-cabin" style and has all the amenities. The Gate House is located on a private cove that is great for swimming off the private dock. It has main channel views, but is off the channel enough to be secluded. Close to the action without all the "action".

You can have lunch and afternoon fun at Bridgewater Plaza (5 minutes by boat) (search "bridgewaterplaza"), go out to a nice restaurant on the lake for dinner, and return to Bridgewater Plaza for dancing and ice cream without ever having to get in your car! Boat rentals are available at Bridgewater Marina for everything from pontoon boats, to ski boats, to jet skis.

Area Information

Smith Mountain Lake has often been called the "Jewel of the Blue Ridge Mountains". It is about 30 miles from either Roanoke or Lynchburg. It has 20,000 acres of fantastic fishing, boating, skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing surface! You can spend a week on the lake, never go to the same cove twice and still not see it all!

And, of course, there is history nearby. Appomattox is less than an hour away. The birthplace of Booker T. Washington is just minutes from the lake. And the National D-Day Memorial is only 25 minutes down the road in historic Bedford (the site was chosen because Bedford lost a higher percentage of its soldiers on D-Day than any other community in the country).

GREAT HOUSE

The place is outstanding, would recommend it to anyone looking for a clean well maintained house to rent. The owners are very accommodating and the house is well stocked. It has all the amenities, a great sound system, access to the lake and just a wonderful place to relax. Going back 2 more times this year. Can't Wait.

We spent the Thanksgiving Holiday 6 adults and 2 children plenty of room and space we were not on top of each other. We had to bring our own sheets and towels everything else was provided the kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans,dishes everything you would need in a kitchen. The lake view is gorgeous. I highly recommend The Gate House

It was more than we could have expected! The home was beautiful and very functional for our family with "space" when we needed it! A perfect spot for a long weekend getaway

My family shared the Gate House with a friend's family and we were all extremely pleased with the accommodations. It was great to be able to give the kids the downstairs while the adults enjoyed the lake views and two seating areas upstairs. The furnishings were comfortable and the decorating was outstanding. We spent hours on the dock soaking up the sun and catching small fish. The decks were also a welcome spot to enjoy the last couple hours of daylight. We will certainly return to the Gate House for our next Smith Mountain Lake vacation!

The Gate House is a great place to spend your vacation. The house is well equipped, clean, spacious, with great views, and in a peaceful setting. The owners are friendly and very easy to work with. I highly recommend the Gate House for your next vacation retreat.

Q:Is the Gate House available for Holiday Rentals?

A:Yes it is. With the exception of Independence Day, most holiday weekends are available for 2 or 3 night rentals at the regular rate. Thanksgiving rentals have a minimum stay of 3 days.

Q:Is there room to dock our boat?

A:The Gate House has it's own very protected dock. The floater is great for boats 25 feet or more. A second boat can be put on the inboard side of the floater, but is limited to about 20 feet. That still allows room for sitting or swimming off the dock.

Q:Does Rent include linens and towels?

A:No. We do not provide linens and towels. However there is an excellent service nearby that does. We have provided a link to their site in our listing. It is Lake Linen Service and they do an excellent job.
