The 2 story cottage syle house is located in a private setting on 3 wooded acreas that joins the monongahela national forest and is a perfect setting for a family vacation, romantic get away or a retreat with your buddies. The house has 2 baths 4 bedrooms and can accomodate up to 9-10 guests. It is equipped with everything you may need for your vacation. Included for your comfort is a outdoor hot tub on the back porch, portable fire pit,gas grill and charcoal grills with deck furniture. The South branch of the Potomac River is located just below the entrance of the hide away. Fishing, hunting ,bird watching, canoeing, hiking, horse back riding, golfing, mountain biking,caving are some of the activities near by. Only minutes from Smoke Hole Canyon, Smoke Hole Caverans, Spruce Knob.Mill Creek Lake, Brandywine Dam, Seneca Rock, Seneca Caverans, Dolly Sods, and Blackwater Falls. If all this seems to hectic just sit back on one of the deck chairs and read a book until the stars come out all in a private setti

Area Information

We are located on 220 18 miles south from petersburg WV or 12 miles north of Franklin WV on 220 in Upper Tract WV just above the entrance to the Smoke Hole Canyon on 3 wooded acres surrounded by mother nature. The South Branch of the Potomac river is just in seeing distance at the bottom of the drive way to the Hideaway where stream is stocked with fish.A stocked dam is located just minutes from the hideaway also.A new golf course is near by and county park is close by with a walk track for your health.We are minutes from Smoke Hole caverns, Seneca Caverns, Seneca Rocks, Nelson Rocks,Dolly Sods, Blackwater Falls.

We have stayed here several times, and consider it our home away from home. its peaceful and secluded, yet not far from anything one might need..the owners are very sweet and helpful...its a great place for a family to stay..and a great place to have a small gathering...one of our favorite features is the long deck on top...blow bubbles and watch them waft away down the drive:)...truly, this is our first choice when we come to the mountains to visit family...we always get excited, especially our kids--they call it "our" hideaway house! :) looking forward to july 2013:)

This was a wonderful week. The cottage was very nice and clean and well decorated. Hap (carroll) and his wife were very nice and helpful about area. My husband had a great time fishing and caught alot of fish, seen couple eagles. This was my grandson first trip to mountains (2 yrs old) and could not have picked a better place to take him. I recommend this this cottage for anyone looking for a get away. Hope to be back down soon. Thank you for a wonderfull week

Would like to Thank my Cousins (Carroll & Rhona) for such a great weekend. The cabin was well furnished with everything you could think of- all you have to do is show up an bring food. It is decorated very nice and clean, with more than enough room for everyone. Quite, secluded and plenty of room. The Hide Away was the perfect place for our annual trip to West Viginia and the Monongahela National Forest. Everything was perfect and the cabin was very clean, nicely decorated and had everything we needed and then some. The large hot tub was a total bonus. Rhona and Carroll (owners) stopped by and were very nice and checked in to see if there was anything we needed. We will definately be back.

A group of family members just returned from a week long fishing trip. What a delightful time we had at the Hideaway. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Had the whole family with grandson and future son inlaw. The cabin was wonderful had so much room and fully equipped with everything that you can think of. The owners were so nice couldn't ask for nicer people. The husband drove out to meet us at 11:00pm to make sure we got there. There is vey few people that would do that. They even got to know the kids. If I could I would just have to buy the place and stay. The place was so clean. Just bring clothes and food that is all that you will need. Sit out on deck and drink a cup of coffee and listen to the wilderness and relax. Hubby loved the fishing. You have to go to the Blackwater water falls. Would I rent there again ABSOLUTELY ...Thanks again .. Hope to see ya soon and rent that NEW ONE ....

It was great stayed 4 nights instead of 3 cause it started snowing and we didnt want to leave. (we are from FL don't see alot of snow here:) We enjoyed hot tub with our kids. We and our children really enjoyed it!!! When it snowed at night the owner came in the morning and cleaned the whole driveway and porch. Hoping to come back sometimes.

Perfect Weekend

The weekend was great from the start to the end. We made arrangements to arrive late, no problem, as the place was nice and warm with the fireplace going. Everything was in order with no surprises. We enjoyed the next day horseback riding and driving to the top of Spruce Knob and enjoying lunch with a view. Came back and cooked a nice meal in the fully stocked kitchen with pots and pans and dishes. Enjoyed the hot tub that was already to go and heated just right. All in all the place is big and nice and clean. Couldn't have asked for a better weekend. Thank you

Getaway at the Hideaway

Just returned from our trip to the South Branch. The Hideaway was a wonderful place to stay. It has everything you could need, just bring clothes and some food. Very relaxing environment, especially the hot tub. Enjoyed morning coffee on the deck. There is plenty of room when you need your own space but also fun times being together. The furnishings are comfortable and the owner is very friendly and helpful. There is a lot to do in the area. We kayaked through the trough and went to Seneca Rocks and Smoke Hole Caverns. Lots of good places to fish. We look forward to a return visit in the near future.

Blizzard of 2010

We arrived in a blizzard. We were unable to make it up the drive to our hideaway for the weekend. The owner came along and gave us a tow up the hill. The house was perfect, the snow fell to around 30". The peace and privacy that we enjoyed that weekend are simply priceless ! Sunday morning the owner showed back up. He kindly dug our vehicle out from the snow and plowed the driveway to ensure our safe departure. I am excited to go back in the warmer months and enjoy some local kayaking. Thank you for such a warm memory
