Reviews for this vacation home rental in Smoke Hole, West Virginia
Falling Waters, WV
October 4, 2014
Wonderful little place. Loved the space for the pups to roam, they enjoyed exploring as much as the rest of us. As well as sun bathing on the upper deck. Though having them along may be why we didn't see much wildlife. This was the last cabin trip Peanut, Chihuahua, got to go on before she crossed the rainbow bridge. We love the house and spacious yard, and enjoyed the hot tub a bunch. The covered area next to the hot tub, fire pit, and grill - were great ways to start and end days. Most of us rarely have time for home cooked meals, so our vacations are often mostly about laying around resting, eating, and visiting. We had everything we needed to cook our meals in the kitchen. The super sized checker board was also a hit! The living room was very cozy and homey. But a review wouldn't be proper without voicing any cons the group had. There were only two big ones we thought folks should know so they don't get upset if they didn't like it. The big one being the master bedroom downstairs(It was super awesome, dogs loved the little fireplace.) isn't really private. No door blocking from the rest of the house, so careful how you're dressed while sleeping. Also the venting is open/shared with the living room. We didn't mind, though it was a surprise our co-renters were hearing our conversations before we realized it. Though it is understandable why this was done, to some it may lead to unwanted eavesdropping. Second was the other downstairs bedroom openly shared with the water heater and plumbing pipes. If you don't mind the noise from the heater & pipes, it's fine. Though one sleeper in that room had to get use to it to sleep. ie: New/strange place to sleep, learning to ignore the little house noises. Overall we highly recommend this house, it's awesome and one of the top rentals we've ever stayed in. We'd love to stay again, though it holds lots of memories of Peanut there as well as another pup that was lost this year to cancer, Dakota. (It was the first time we thought we lost Peanut, but she started breathing again, so it was the start of a long goodbye.) But we keep this contact saved for future trips we may go on! Thanks for such a canine friendly rental! (really with our group it's hard to find such wonderful accommodations!) The group said if you were to upgrade anything, a nice big tub in the downstairs bath would have the vote.

Accommodations were well named as a hideaway, hidden on a short road back in the trees. However, very easy to access. Perfect, ideal location. They have thought of everything you could possibly need or want. We all enjoyed the stay and enjoyed meeting the friendly, helpful owners! They seemed like our old friends from day one. Looking forward to a visit here again!

Went here for my Anniversary. We were greeted as soon as we got there with one of the most friendliest lady ever. The house had a warm home feeling to it. It was very clean and everything worked. We enjoyed bonfires and relaxation in the hot tub. Had many visit from the deer while in the hot tub or just enjoying a cup of coffee on the front porch in the morning. We hiked up to the top of the mountain on the property, as they have hunting trails along the property that were very convenient. We got a lot of nice photos of the beautiful scenery and wildlife on our hike to the top. When we reached got there, it had absolutely breath taking views of the whole area. So many beautiful mountains and river at bottom, along with the valleys of greenery made me want to stay there forever. Had a wonderful time and had the most relaxation I've had in a long time. Also, there was a road by the house, but we never heard any traffic. We only heard nature. This place is a hidden gem, a must go!

This cabin was so peaceful and close to many outdoor activities. Our family enjoyed fishing, kayaking , and hiking. The scenery is beautiful for taking photos. We were pleased to find a small grocery store in Franklin and a great ice cream shop about 2 miles beyond Franklin.
Home away from Home

We have stayed here several times, and consider it our home away from home. its peaceful and secluded, yet not far from anything one might need..the owners are very sweet and helpful...its a great place for a family to stay..and a great place to have a small gathering...one of our favorite features is the long deck on top...blow bubbles and watch them waft away down the drive:)...truly, this is our first choice when we come to the mountains to visit family...we always get excited, especially our kids--they call it "our" hideaway house! :) looking forward to july 2013:)

Would like to Thank my Cousins (Carroll & Rhona) for such a great weekend. The cabin was well furnished with everything you could think of- all you have to do is show up an bring food. It is decorated very nice and clean, with more than enough room for everyone. It was so peaceful - having coffee on the porch and watching the deer and wild turkeys ( did'nt see no black bear) maybe next time. Thank You both so much for such an enjoyable stay!!!

Quite, secluded and plenty of room. The Hide Away was the perfect place for our annual trip to West Viginia and the Monongahela National Forest. Everything was perfect and the cabin was very clean, nicely decorated and had everything we needed and then some. The large hot tub was a total bonus. Rhona and Carroll (owners) stopped by and were very nice and checked in to see if there was anything we needed. We will definately be back.

A group of family members just returned from a week long fishing trip. What a delightful time we had at the Hideaway. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Quiet, secluded, well furnished cabin with everything you need. The owners were great, even giving helpful suggestions on where to fish. Hope to return again, and will certainly stay at the Hideaway. Thanks for everything!

Had the whole family with grandson and future son inlaw. The cabin was wonderful had so much room and fully equipped with everything that you can think of. The owners were so nice couldn't ask for nicer people. The husband drove out to meet us at 11:00pm to make sure we got there. There is vey few people that would do that. They even got to know the kids. If I could I would just have to buy the place and stay. The place was so clean. Just bring clothes and food that is all that you will need. Sit out on deck and drink a cup of coffee and listen to the wilderness and relax. Hubby loved the fishing. You have to go to the Blackwater water falls. Would I rent there again ABSOLUTELY ...Thanks again .. Hope to see ya soon and rent that NEW ONE ....

The weekend was great from the start to the end. We made arrangements to arrive late, no problem, as the place was nice and warm with the fireplace going. Everything was in order with no surprises. We enjoyed the next day horseback riding and driving to the top of Spruce Knob and enjoying lunch with a view. Came back and cooked a nice meal in the fully stocked kitchen with pots and pans and dishes. Enjoyed the hot tub that was already to go and heated just right. All in all the place is big and nice and clean. Couldn't have asked for a better weekend. Thank you
Getaway at the Hideaway
June 19, 2010
Just returned from our trip to the South Branch. The Hideaway was a wonderful place to stay. It has everything you could need, just bring clothes and some food. Very relaxing environment, especially the hot tub. Enjoyed morning coffee on the deck. There is plenty of room when you need your own space but also fun times being together. The furnishings are comfortable and the owner is very friendly and helpful. There is a lot to do in the area. We kayaked through the trough and went to Seneca Rocks and Smoke Hole Caverns. Lots of good places to fish. We look forward to a return visit in the near future.

Blizzard of 2010
February 10, 2010
We arrived in a blizzard. We were unable to make it up the drive to our hideaway for the weekend. The owner came along and gave us a tow up the hill. The house was perfect, the snow fell to around 30". The peace and privacy that we enjoyed that weekend are simply priceless ! Sunday morning the owner showed back up. He kindly dug our vehicle out from the snow and plowed the driveway to ensure our safe departure. I am excited to go back in the warmer months and enjoy some local kayaking. Thank you for such a warm memory
