Reviews for this vacation cottage rental in South Duxbury, Vermont
Tom and Lois Stake
August 8, 2014
We rented your Cottage to spend some vacation time with family living in Waterbury, VT. The Cottage is in a beautiful setting and we had all that we needed to prepare some meals at the cabin or to grill on the back deck. The cottage was very clean, everything organized and decorated perfectly. We found blueberry bread in our refrigerator and it was wonderful. The owners Robert and Karen stopped to see if we needed anything or would we like something picked up during their trips to town. We spent alot of our time driving to nearby towns, visiting antique stores, the farmers markets, and some restaurants. We loved the flatbread pizza place and the Wayside Inn was wonderful too. We bought some Vermont syrup which was excellent on our french toast. The area around Duxbury is filled with Mountains and rivers and just beautiful. I would love to come back to this area in the fall or the winter. Overall we enjoyed our stay at the White Birch Cottage. Thank you!

This review is well overdue, I was eating a bite of apple pie (like the one we enjoyed at the cottage of course) and it reminded me that I forgot to write in! Amazing stay. We had a great time visiting the area and Karen/Owner are very nice and accommodating. We arrived girlfriend and boyfriend and departed engaged.... Thank you so much and we can't wait to come back.

One of the best vacations ever!
December 22, 2013
Two families spent a wonderful weekend reunion here. Can't say enough good things. Location is perfectly situated, cabin is so cozy and comfortable. Karen is a wonderful hostess and there wasn't a thing we needed that wasn't provided for. We certainly hope to return again and again.
Vermont at its best!
November 4, 2013
Just spent two weekends at WBC and enjoyed every minute. The cottage is homey, impeccably clean, totally equipped and tastefully appointed. The scenery is great and it is centrally located to a number of attractions and points of interest. The area abounds with artisan galleries, quaint shops and delicious dining choices. Karen Cavoretto is a great hostess! She is very knowledgable about the area and attractions, is engaging and witty but always mindful to let you have your space. She loves this place and what she does and it shows in every detail. And Buddy, the black lab, is everyone's buddy! I would HIGHLY recommend this place to everyone. Come once and you'll want to come again.

Great getaway with kids!
October 19, 2013
Our stay at the cabin was magnificent! It was our first trip to Vermont and we couldn't have planned it any better. We are a family with two young children and the kids immediately felt at home upon entering the cozy cabin. The grounds are breathtaking and quiet. Karen was so welcoming and hospitable. She made sure we were comfortable and answered any questions we had about the area. We look forward to planning another visit in the near future.

Amazing and Relaxing
April 13, 2013
Best vacation hubby and I have had together! We stayed in the main house and it was not ackward at all. Karen and her husband treated us like Gold. It was very clean, spacious with great amenities. Not to mention, fresh baked goods and juice for breakfast every morning. Its close to all activities! We highly recommend and we will be back! We also took a look inside the cottage and we look forward to returning with our family and renting the cottage as well. Thank you for a well needed experience and vacation.
Clean, beautiful, accommodating stay!
February 20, 2013
Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your cottage for our first siblings weekend! Your place is cozy, welcoming, super clean, full of all of the best appliances, and beautiful! All 8 of us adults had a comfortable bed to sleep after skiing all day at Stowe. It was an overall perfect place and we will definitely come back for future visits. Thank you again for your hospitality and the apple pie when we arrived!!!
Great country get away
November 12, 2012
My girlfriend and I stayed on nov 10-12 We were greeted by the owner Karen with a warm welcome. She told us we had a fresh apple pie in the fridge waiting for us. The cottage was beautiful and had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. We had a campfire both nights which was very relaxing. We will definitely be returning it was totally awesome.

This is a lovely cottage in a scenic, wooded and quiet location with a deck overlooking an awsome view. The place is impeccable inside and out. The owner was helpful in every way and even gave us some nice local sweetcorn. I highly recoommend it.

Great vacation rental
June 19, 2012
Everything about our stay was outstanding. The cottage lives up to every great review and the hospitality was incredible. No hotel can compare to our stay at the cottage. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to cook our own meals, there were games for the kids, the beds were super comfortable, and the entire cottage was quaint and homey. We spent four nights there and we were all bummed when we had to leave. Karen and Rob were so nice to deal with....Karen built us a fire one night and made sure we had giant marshmallows and chocolate for smores. We would certainly stay again next time we are in the area. Thank you Karen and Rob for such a wonderful experience!
April 4, 2012
What a wonderful place, an oasis of beauty and tranquility! The Ben and Jerry Ice Cream Factory and Tour was a big hit with our little kids. Thank you, Karen and Bob, for your hospitality and helping us celebrate our baby girl's fist birthday. We could not have found a more beautiful place. We very much enjoyed the cabin and especially the panoramic view from the back porch. A very relaxing stay; we look forward to come back and admire the fall foliage!
Week of great ski and nature
March 10, 2012
White Birch Cottage is located in a gorgeous valley surrounded by hills. This is perfect for mountains and nature lovers, as well for people looking for quietness and nice views. Our family traditionally spend the school break skiing. White Birch Cottage has the perfect location to ski within 20 to 40 minutes of drive: Mad River Glen, Sugarbush and Stowe. You can get more ski resorts at just over an hour of road. The cottage is very well maintenance and equipped and after long days of ski we loved to be back home to relax and cook dinner; this is exactly how we felt. And most important, if hospitality has a name it should be “Karen and Robert”. Natalie et Alain, Granby, Québec

President's Week Getaway 2012
March 6, 2012
Gorgeous place to stay for the week. Only minutes to Sugarbush and Mad River Glen, about 30 minutes to Stowe. With 4 days of skiing and 2 days of College visits in Burlington, we found the location to be perfect for us. Did I mention that the Ben & Jerry's factory is about 15 minutes away? It has a wonderful kitchen, although we did manage to find some great nearby restaurants as well. The beds are very comfortable. The water was hot and plentiful. The washer and dryer were a very pleasant surprise. We enjoyed our stay there. Our 17 year old thought it was cool enough that we should build one just like it someday!
A wonderful getaway
February 6, 2012
My husband, two kids (7 and 4) and I stayed at the White Birch Cottage for 4 nights in January. What a wonderful time we had! Karen and Bob - as noted by previous reviewers - are incredibly hospitable. From directing us by phone to the cabin on a dark, snowy night, to picking up milk at the store on their way home for our family (not to mention providing the famous apple pie in the fridge upon our arrival) Karen and Bob went above and beyond as caretakers of the property. The cabin is beautiful! The children loved running around and exploring the nooks and crannies that create a cozy getaway. They could have played for hours in the cabin alone! But with the beautiful views beckoning, it is impossible to stay inside all day with the gorgeous mountains of Vermont calling. The cabin is located nearby Waterbury, and is a short distance from Stowe and Sugarbush - all of which we explored. We went snowshoeing in Waterbury State Park, ice skating in nearby Waitsfield, horse-drawn sleighriding at the Von Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe and visited friends skiing at Sugarbush. All in all, a great vacation in a great location. We definitely hope to return again!
A Wonderful Holiday!
January 4, 2012
We had a lovely stay at White Birch with our family (three adults and one six-month old) over Christmas and New Years. The cottage has everything you need and Karen and Bob are wonderful hosts! (Thanks for the delicious apple pie, Karen!). It's about 2 miles up a well-mainted, packed gravel road, but if there's snow, you'll need an AWD vehicle. The cottage is in the perfect location between Stowe and Sugarbush, so it's great if you plan to ski. There are a few good restaurants within about 10 - 15 minutes. The views from the deck are perfect. The only thing issue we had was getting the heat just right in the cottage…if you make it warm enough for the two downstairs bedrooms, you melt the folks in the upstairs loft, so maybe have your warm-blooded folks in the downstairs rooms. Otherwise, it's perfect. We couldn't have asked for more for our first Christmas with our son!
The Best of the Best!
October 17, 2011
The drive up to the cottage is absolutely beautiful! Once you've arrived it only gets better. We arrived just after dark and found our hostess/proprietor awaiting our arrival. Greeted with a warm and genuine smile, we were given the tour of the cottage and where to find answers to any questions we might have about it during our stay. We slept upstairs in the main part of the loft very comfortable and quiet. The dawn comes and sheds new light on the previous evenings view. Colors and more colors the mountains are so close it looks like you can touch them. And now in the full light of the morning sun, White Birch reveals it's stunning beauty. The ceilings and floors glow with an inviting feeling surrounding you. The place just jumps to life and offers up a soothing soul cleansing feeling. Outside on the deck overlooking the crimson and yellow symphony mother nature provided us with we cooked on a large grill and drank beers from the local breweries. Plenty to do, in fact we could barely scratch the surface of the options available to us. We went hiking on trails just down the road fro the cottage, shopping around town and of to some local breweries and Ben and Jerry's is right up the road. If you make arrangements you can have a fire at night and we did just that! A great big hot fire and our hostess Karen joined us. A few ghost stories and marshmallows later everyone was ready for bed. The next day was checkout and my girlfriend and I both agreed we would go back. Currently planning a trip late spring with some additional people and bringing up the motorcycles to do some touring around VT and Southern Canada. If you have the time and are planning to travel to VT, White Birch Cottage is truly a unique and wonderful spot to stay. Bring the basics with you. You won't need much else. Karen has got all the bases covered from plates and utensils right down to the smallest details like the blender for the DAQS and Ritas. All the charm and warmth you can imagine. I promise it'll feel just like home!

MTB Week-end with the boys
September 22, 2011
Great week-end. Love the place. Tons of mountain bike trails in the area. Great getaway. Will try to plan a family week-end with the kids and friends for sure.
September 13, 2011
We had an absolutely wonderful 1 week stay. We were so lucky to find the place online. We have 4 children and they loved playing with the dog next door and having the freedom to walk on the slow road and visit the frogs in the pond. All amenties were thought of. Karen, the owner is so nice. I could go on and on. I love forward to staying there again!
New, Spacious House... Quiet... Close to Waterbury
September 7, 2011
Really enjoyed staying at White Birch Cottage over Labor Day weekend. It's approximately two years old and the owners live next door, which is great in case you need anything (they're super nice, btw). Cottage has 5 beds, 1 full bath, satellite TV, a nice kitchen/island. Very quiet with nice views of mountains from back porch. About a 5-10 minute drive to main drag in Waterbury and close to 3 ski mountains. I'd definitely recommend it for fall foliage, ski trip or just a weekend getaway to VT. About 30 min. from Burlington, too.
A great long weekend in Vermont
August 27, 2011
Our families really enjoyed staying at the White Birch Cottage. Karen went out of her way to make sure everything was to our liking (which it was) and that we weren't having any problems (which we weren't). Everything was in top notch condition and the view from the back deck was fantastic. It was the perfect place for us to stay for this trip. This was our first visit, but I suspect it will not be our last!
Perfect accomodations for our 2 families!
August 10, 2011
We visited just this past weekend and can't say enough good things about this wonderful getaway. The cottage was lovely and very kid friendly. The kids stayed upstairs in a very nice loft while the adults took the 2 bedrooms downstairs. What a thoughtful owner who made sure we knew about the area and had every amenity we could think of. We had the best time! Kitchen was fully stocked and towels, sheets, blankets, pillows were plentiful. Thanks Karen!!!

Perfect summer getaway
July 31, 2011
This was our first trip to Vermont and we had a great time. We didn't know what to expect since we weren't going at the peak tourist winter skiing season. The cottage has an invitingly warm and cozy feeling, and yet very spacious. It is beautiful with all the amenities of home. Hard to believe they rent this property out. It's a gem. The hosts, Karen and Robert, were very welcoming. My son was just giddy when Robert guided us through the woods up and down the brooks to fish for trout. We grilled one that didn't survive the catch and my son ate it. He just loved it! It was pleasant to awake to the sound of nature and the smell of fresh air as you take in the view of the mountain top. Where we live, about the only time you hear a running brook is at the theme parks like Busch Gardens. It was a perfect respite from the hustle and bustle of every day life. My little one is already planning next year's trip. Funny how this turned out since this was a mini summer break before we dropped off his older brother at hockey camp nearby.

Wonderful Christmas Family stay in the cottage
January 7, 2011
Karen and Robert we thank you for the hospitality making our Christmas in you cottage like being at home. The cottage had everything we needed for us and our daughters. and we enjoyed your beautiful Christmas tree and decorations. We enjoyed seeing the deer feeding in your garden.Best regards from the Dutch Lucas family.
Ski trip weekend
December 20, 2010
I have stayed at many lodges across the country for ski trips, but this was my first experience with 8 people. I thought it was going to be tough cramming everyone in, but boy was I wrong. This place is beautiful, clean, spacious, and cozy. But most of all, Karen and Robert's hospitality tops everything. This newly renovated cottage is well furnished and filled with many little fun surprises, like a fresh homemade apple pie, courtesy of Karen. The location is fantastic too--Sugarbush is only 20 minutes away, and there's tons of stuff to do in the area. Again thanks, so much for a great stay. We'll be back soon hopefully!
November 30, 2010
My family and I stayed at the cottage for 3 nights over Thanksgiving and had a fabulous time. The house feels cozy from the minute you walk in. We had 5 adults and a 16 month old toddler and it felt like plenty of space for us. We were very close to Burlington and Waterbury, so it was quite easy to see the aquarium, UVM, and Ben & Jerry's, among other area attractions. The view was tremedous, and the hospitality wonderful. There was a pie and a bottle of wine awaiting our arrival! We will definitely stay here again if our travels take us to Northern VT again.

Columbus Day Comfort
October 14, 2010
We stayed at the White Birch Cottage over the recent Columbus Day weekend. It is clearly a magnificent house. When you first observe the exterior you’re drawn to its amicable charm. Once you enter, the cottage’s serene décor welcomes you with warmth and comfort. This included a delicious homemade apple pie. Our pleasant and gracious hosts Robert and Karen also have adorned the home with a mix of practicality. They did not miss a beat. We clearly enjoyed our time at White Birch and plan do so again in the future.
What a fantastic weekend!
September 27, 2010
We stayed at the White Birch Cottage last weekend and had a great time. The cottage is amazing! It's spacious, clean, cozy with everything you need to just relax and enjoy the time off. Karen and Robert are extremely good hosts, both making sure we felt welcome and taking time to give us suggestions on our hicking trip! I highly recommend the White Birch Cottage and will certainly be coming back!!!

In love with White Birch Cottage
August 19, 2010
We rented the White Birch Cottage for a full week this August to provide accommodations for several members of a wedding party. Right from the moment our first person arrived at the cottage we felt so welcomed. Our gracious host showed us around the beautiful cottage and made sure we felt at home. Despite being a bit off the beaten path--isn't all of Vermont, really?--we still felt it was pretty convenient to Waterbury and Stowe and even Burlington and Montpelier. If we're ever back in the Green Mountain State we'll be staying here again.

The cabin was absolutely beautiful! It was well equipped & stocked for cooking which is really nice for eating in! The owner lives right next door and is always available to help - we wanted to use the bbq one night and didn't have any propane and she ran right into town to fill it up for us! We would certainly stay there again!
August 3, 2010
We stayed here for three nights and it was perfect. The cottage is so well appointed and cozy. You feel so welcomed as soon as you walk in the door. The host go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed. We will be returning hopefully soon!

Well appointed and cared for home away from home
July 19, 2010
We very much enjoyed our week long stay at Whitebirch Cottage. Very well situated in the Mad River Valley, we found many day trip destinations that included visits to quaint villages as well as beautiful locations for picnics. Care and attention to detail is evident in the cottage and its surroundings...truly a home away from home. The hospitality of the owners is second to none. Its a wonderful spot for a summer getaway!
Fantastic Views, Natural Beauty
May 28, 2010
I chose this cottage instead of a business hotel because of the serenity and relaxation offered by the setting and its location in the mountains while still being close to the main highway and my clients. Well equipped and constructed with craftsmanship, it was a pleasure to stay there and go for walks in nature every morning. I am looking forward to my next stay in this peaceful environment.
Green Mountain Escape
May 20, 2010
Fantastic cottage! My wife, brother, two friends and I utilized the cottage while participating in the Shelburne 1/2 Marathon. Internally and externally the cottage is imaculate. The kitchen, common area and bedrooms are beyond equipped and absolutely spotless. Each have a very welcoming and comforting appeal to them. Karen's hospitality was above and beyond and was always prompt and readily available. Additionally, her home baked goods were plenty and delicious. As a result of the location, we were able to visit the following: Burlington, Magic Hat Brewery, Ben & Jerry's and Stowe with ease. Certainly a "home away from home". Without a doubt, we plan to return in the near future.
The perfect spot
March 17, 2010
We had a delightful family get away with three nights stay in the cottage. It is very well-appointed with everything you would need in the kitchen, as well as cozy throws, magazines, games, and lovely views. All in all very comfortable accommodations with warm and welcoming hosts.

Charming Vermont Cabin
March 1, 2010
We Came to Vermont to ski, and had a wonderful vacation. Sugarbush and Stowe are close by. The cabin is a wonderful place for a family to stay. Lots of room and everything you could ask for to make yourself comfy. Terrific kitchen and a gas grill on the back deck. Quiet and beautiful views of the mountains! Karen and Bob were wonderful hosts. We will look forward to the time when we can return.
February 23, 2010
We stayed here while on a ski vacation at Sugarbush. First off the Area... Wow! Amazing. Friendly people! Second off the Views... Waking up to a beautiful view of the valley below and the mountains covered in snow, this is simply impeccable. Third, Karen and the family think of EVERYTHING possible to make your stay exceptional. They are available to help you find anything that you need. And last but not least… Karen’s fresh apple pie. (The cherry on the already tasty Sundae) HIGHLY SUGGGGGGEST THIS CHALET!
February 20, 2010
The cottage, the location, the views and the Cavoretto's are all amazing! Karen was a great aid in planning activities in the area...we went snowmobiling on friday, boarding on saturday and iceskating (outdoor rink) on sunday...all of which were about or under a half hour from the cottage. She was extremely accomodating, there was even a homemade pie waiting for us in the fridge upon arrival! This was the perfect winter vacation!
February 9, 2010
Ready for a ski or snowboard trip? White Birch Cottage is definitely your first choice. The cottage is newly renovated with wooden floor, nice window treatment and a "all you can ask for" kitchen!! The kids love this place, they got to play with Buddy and were able to snowboard for both Saturday and Sunday since Sugarbush Mountain is only 15 minutes away. We will definitely come back in the summer for kayaking!!

Excellent Holiday Weekend
January 20, 2010
This was our 2nd stay at the cottage and it was as much fun as the 1st time we stayed. With Sugarbush just 20 minutes away the kids were able to ski both Saturday and Sunday while we went snowshoeing at Ole’s also just 20 minutes down the road. At the end of a long day it is so nice to come back to such a cozy well-furnished cottage. Karen and Robert had a nice Bonfire on Saturday night for us and let me borrow snowshoes to take a walk behind the cottage on Sunday, what a view. The kids want to know when we can go back again.

me and a few of my friends just recently stayed at the rental property in south duxbury. the trip was awesome and the house counldn't have been better. comfortable, cozy, it felt like i was home. i would recremend this place to any of my friends. not to mention the snoboarding was fantastic!! sugarbush is the way to go. not packed like killington but the riding was just as good if not better. the cavoretto's couldn't have helped us out any more then they already did. they are very welcoming and anything we needed they were there to help in anyway they could. all in all i will be back next winter to do it all over again.
High Value Experience
January 4, 2010
White Birch Cottage is a unique experience! The Concierge is a friendly Black Lab named Buddy, and he has a couple assistants - Karen and Bob, the best people. The cottage is set exactly where you'd want to be if you imagined a Vermont winter vacation. The cottage is well kept, and easy to be comfortable; the perfect place to return after active days. I would like to visit again.

January 3, 2010
The house is beautifully furnished, comfortable and conveniently located to Sugarbush, Stowe, Mad River Glen, Waterbury and a numerous cross country skiing trails. We skied Mad River, Sugarbush and did some xc skiing at the Trapp Family Lodge. Karen and Bob's hopsitality was outstanding! The helped us get discounted lift tickets, built a bonfire and made sure the porch, stairs, walkways and driveway was clear early every morning. We can not wait to come back next year!
