Description of the South Haven vacation home rental
Everything is neat, tidy, well-supplied, and ready to go when you get here. Fresh, clean bed and bath linens. Just bring your clothes and groceries - we've got the rest!
One of our greatest assets is our neighborhood association's gated beach access - either walk down or drive down to just a few feet from the shore. We've had many memorable campfires and sunset cocktails on the beach and leashed pets are allowed.
Our home offers added value with nearly a dozen bikes to choose from, free tennis (rackets and ball included), ping pong table, several sets of golf clubs, X-box 360, lawn games, beach chairs and umbrellas, coolers, hotdog forks, hammocks, library, cable TVs in every bedroom and more, Everything necessary for a great summer vacation - except YOU.
Area Information
The best calendar of events for this area is: SouthHavenToSaugatuck so you can see what's going on during your stay. Just email us for a link to that calendar.
The activities in South Haven are endless and it's just 10 minutes from the house! South Haven has
activities for all four seasons. There are multiple golf courses located just out side of town and the
famous 32 mile Kal Haven trail is a popular destination for hikers, bikers, cross-country skiiers and snowmobilers! How about a great ice skating rink right downtown in winter time? Kids Corner play area in South Haven is just a few minutes away. The Michigan Maritime Musuem, chartered fishing trips, sail on Friends Good Will or other cruise tours.
Pick some blueberries! They're one of the top superfoods and so easy to pick - no thorns and nice sized bushes. A perfect treat for kids.
South Haven is known for it's art fairs and outdoor concerts all summer long, 4th of July festival and fireworks and Blueberry festival and Harbor Fest. They have the BEST pancake breakfasts! And, have you ever been to a fish boil? It's better than it sounds. How about a sandcastle building contest? Parks and parades. A bookstore with resident dogs that smile and say "I Love You".
And then there's Saugatuck and Douglas (just about 12 minutes away) are the definition of small town America - with a flair! Saugatuck was just voted one of the top 3 "Coolest Small Towns In America". Come see why. These harbor villages turn back the pages of time to a simpler life. Artists have always been drawn to this area. This heritage continues through strong ties to the Art Institute of Chicago.
In summer enjoy the many festivals, art based events and the new Saugatuck Center of the Arts featuring many musicals and plays. Visit in spring for the Waterfront Film Festival, or in the summer for the Chamber Music Festival, professional summer stock theatre, year round jazz concerts or the arts and craft shows.
Picnic by the gazebo in Wicks Park overlooking the harbor, or ride a one-of-a-kind hand-cranked ferry. Rent a canoe, or charter a sailboat or ride "the duck".
Take a stroll along the boardwalk and explore many galleries, boutiques, and restaurants. If you're a golfer, hit the links at one of several 18-hole championship courses while the kids take lessons at the area's golf school.
Don't leave without taking a thrilling dune buggy ride, climbing the monster dune "Mt. Baldy" or spending at least one day at beautiful, famous Oval Beach. End your vacation at the corner drug store in downtown Saugatuck where hand-creamed sodas and shakes have been a specialty for 86 years. Stop by Crane's Pie Pantry and pick up a home-made pie or handpick your own fruit and bake it yourself - Crane's is only about 10 minutes from our house. Farm markets, antique shops, micro breweries and wineries abound!
We've got one of the craziest antique shops you'll ever see (Sunset Junque) less than a mile from our house and the quaint little town of Glenn Michigan is a mile away also. There you'll find a handy convenience store (pop, beer, ice, deli, etc) a restaurant, post office, hardware store and more.

Other Vacation Rental Amenities
Campfires and leashed pets are allowed at our beach, as well as alcohol if you'd like a cooler of cold beer or a glass of wine.
In the parking area, there is a foot wash, and in the summer season there is a portable toilet at the beach parking area. We have beach chairs, umbrellas, coolers, and inflatables for your enjoyment - all free.
We have 10 or more bicycles, helmets, and a bike rack also complimentary to our guests.
We frequently find beach glass and Petoskey stones on our beach. You can walk for miles!
There are tennis courts available for your use about a 1 minute walk away. You can see the fence from our front porch and we have tennis rackets and balls.
Our home is on a cul-de-sac and the area around and down to the beach is lovely for walking and/or bike riding.
We have a unique location being halfway between the 2 great towns of South Haven and Saugatuck - just about 10 minutes to each. We're only a mile from the quaint town of Glenn which has a nice store, deli and pizzaria, fruit markets, antique shops and a restaurant, as well as historic sites.
Glenn Haven Shores (our neighborhood association) also owns a lakefront spot on the bluff with a couple benches that's perfect for watching the sunset. It's called "Sunset Park" and it's just a 3 to 4 minute walk from the house.
Reviews for this vacation home rental in South Haven, Michigan

Great place, fun time
July 12, 2012
This is a great location for a laid-back summer vacation. The house wasn't big, but everything inside has been remodeled and is in great condition. The house was very comfortable. Highlights of our trip were backyard barbecues, biking the Kal Haven trail, blueberry picking at DeGrandchamps Farms, stopping by Bardens Farm market, hitting a few shops downtown, and spending time at the beach. Our five-year-old loved Kidscorner playground and the play area at the south beach.

Great vacation site
September 27, 2011
This home is very nice - you could easily live there full time, with all of the accomodations offered - clean, plenty of equipment for fun, cooking out. The beach is across the street - about a 5 minute walk. There are also other lovely Lake Michigan beachs all around you - traveling to towns other than South Haven is simple - they're all close and each is unique. Great food and shopping. Would sure vacation here again. The home owners were gracious and very helpful before and during our stay here.

Something for everyone.

Highly recommend Beach Walk to any one who wants to have a good time and be close to everything. Our family of 10 enjoyed the near-by towns, beaches, bike trails, wineries and even just spending time in this well equipped comfortable home.
Owner Supplied Testimonials

The review below was just posted (June 2012) on another vacation rental by owner site by a family (Maynards) that had just stayed at Beachwalk:
Review #5219647 Pure Michigan Fun!!
Our family had a fabulous time on our vacation! The home was very clean, well kept and stocked with everything we needed. There were no surprises- everything was exactly as described! We loved riding bikes, playing ladder ball, and just relaxing at the house. We have a large family and there was plenty of room for everyone to spread out. There were so many things to do in the area. We loved the private beach, especially building a fire, making s'mores and watching the sun set. The town of South Haven was our favorite, although we enjoyed visiting Douglas and Saugatuck as well. The sand dune buggy ride in Saugatuck was a blast! We highly recommend it for adults and kids of all ages! The little town of Glenn is very close and cute. We were disappointed the antique shop was closed the two times we tried to visit. Apparently it is open more in July and August. We visited the public beach and park in Glenn. It was really nice, not crowded, and had clean restrooms in the park. The park is all wooded with picnic tables and grills. Lots of playground equipment for younger kids! The owners of the home were so great to work with. They promptly answered emails and any questions we had. They also checked on us while we were there to make sure everything was okay. We left a computer remote and they mailed it to us within a few days. They are awesome! This was our first experience renting a home and it was the best! We would HIGHLY recommend it to our friends and family- and we already have! Our kids said they loved it as much as Florida. And it was only a 4 hour drive for us! We will definitely do it again! :)

Review Submitted July 25, 2011 Date of Stay July 9, 2011 Message body: Dear Carl, We loved, loved the house and community in Glenn. Thank you for thinking of everything. I had my parents visit, a family from Kalamazoo and a couple from St. Joseph. So much space! Love the grill, too, and the kids couldn't get enough of the hammocks and the bunnies! My daughter will remember them best, I think. Do you have the same week avaiable next year? We want to do everything the same! Oh and THANK you for sending back my son's insurance paperwork. Silly of me to leave that in the kitchen. Laura B. (& family) ************************ It was a pleasure having you and your family Laura. I'm glad some lifetime memories were made. We're looking forward to next year. Take care. Carl & April
Hi April & Carl,
We had such a great time during our stay at your home.
The house is lovely and we treated like we would have treated our own home.
There were no complaints from the teens. They were so appreciative you had TV's in every room and they loved having slumber parties playing games and watching movies.
We loved the beach. We wish we could have stayed longer. What a lovely area.
I can tell you coming home was not easy.
Your home made us feel at home, so it was easy to take care. We hope most guests do the same.
We hope to be able to come up again in the near future. We'd love to keep in touch!
Thank you for having us stay at your home.
Point of interest you might want to mention is the Sand Dune Rides in Saugatuck. By far, the best ride and fun ever! Money well spent!
P.S. Not sure what I did to the burners, I must have scrubbed too hard as I am not used to the gas stove. We have a flat top electric stove ourselves.
Thank you to Carl for bringing over the new grill. You guys are awesome!
Take care,
Anna, George & Portell gang
