Description of the South Thomaston vacation cottage rental

The "Lighthouse Cottage"
A wonderful large cottage on the ocean’s edge with panoramic views. Drink your morning coffee watching the sunrise on the expansive oceanfront deck. Spend your days exploring sea life among the rocks, watching the seals and seabirds, walking in the woods, or watching the lobster boats out front. Bring your kayak to launch from our small pebble beach right in front. The clear night sky is filled with stars close enough to touch! Fall asleep listening to the water lap at the shore. Antiquing, fine dining, museums, hiking and golf are just a sample of many ways to spend the day - if you can tear yourself away.

The main level has an open concept kitchen, dining and living room. There is also a full bathroom and laundry area. The cottage has three bedrooms and 1 3/4 bathrooms. The large master bedroom on the main level has a king-sized bed and overlooks the ocean. Upstairs you’ll find two more bedrooms, one with a view of the woods and bunk beds, the other with a queen bed and a wonderful ocean view. This cottage is fully outfitted, linens, towels, including a dishwasher, microwave, washer and dryer, and fireplace. We also provide cable television, DVD player and wireless internet access.

Area Information

Spruce Head is a small lobster-fishing village on Penobscot Bay in midcoast Maine. The nearest city is Rockland, about ten minutes away. There is a small airport in Owls Head with commercial flights to Boston and facilities for private aircraft. Nearby Thomaston, Rockport and Camden are beautiful towns with small shops and galleries. Lighthouses, museums, restaurants, art galleries, numerous summer festivals, hiking, fishing, shopping, day cruises and more are all available within a half-hour drive. And of course, there is lobster to eat everywhere. Or, even better, buy it fresh and bring it back to enjoy on your own deck, taking in the view.

Wonderful find

November 3, 2012

Couldn't have asked for more. The house is lovely- open, spacious, comfortable, well equipped. The property projects out into the cove, giving a feeling of privacy. I'm not an early riser, but the deck overlooking the ocean, surrounded by trees, made it irresistible to get out of the huge bed with its fluffy duvet and enjoy sunrise and coffee while listening to the loons. In the evening, the gas fireplace was charming (and warm). In between, there was the sandy beach down a few steps (yes, we went wading and collecting shells and beach glass there, even in late October). The area is great to explore- hiking, antiques, museums, ferry trip (saw dolphins and seals, even in the off season)- only wish we had more time. Patty is a generous, informative, non-intrusive host, with charming dogs. When there was a small problem with one of the 2 showers, she had it repaired within hours. I had been slightly hesitant to rent a place I had never seen; I am SO glad we did. From the first glimpse of the moss lined walkway with its soft lighting and the ocean views through the glass-lined front walls, to last minute beach combing before departure, it was awesome.We hope to stay there again soon, and highly recommend the property, owner, and area (and the dogs!)

Beautiful!

We had a wonderful time! The lighthouse cottage was beautiful. Patty and Paul were very friendly and offered many suggestions on places to see while we were in Maine. The ocean was so close and we enjoyed sitting on the deck overlooking the ocean and drinking our coffee. We would highly recommend this property!

We anticipated this vacation for so long and it was well worth the wait! The cottage was exactly as advertised and the owners were friendly and helpful. We had beautiful weather and found great food and things to do very close by. We were very sad to leave and are hoping to be able to come back again next year.

Most amazing view - just what we wanted

If you are looking for a great place to relax and enjoy the Maine coast line - you simply can't beat this lovely cottage. The only reason it missed getting 5 stars is (we would have liked air conditioning and better wifi) ...but that is so miner compared to all the other lovely aspects. We will come back...need i say more?

Perfect for our needs....cottage in the pines with the ocean at the front step. A great porch to sit on, a beautiful ocean vista, interesting sea gull activity, close to the Owl Head,Rockland and Camden communities.
