Description of the Southold vacation home rental
No need to pack the car with a cooler to go to the beach, when it's right on your doorstep. Almost 500ft of private beach with a floating dock. Bring your boat or rent one! In a natural setting at the heart of Long Island's unspoilt North Fork, this classic Beach House enjoys sunrise views from the second floor deck over Goose Creek onto Southold Bay towards Shelter Island and the Hamptons.
Nearby, beautiful Goose Creek public beach, attended by Lifeguards from May thru September. All this and only about two hours from Manhattan, New York City, or an hour and a half from JFK International Airport. McArthur Islip Airport is even nearer, about 40 minutes away.
Accommodations: Comfortable, country style furnishings, 100% cotton bedlinens and towels, feather and down duvets and pillows on all beds for cooler seasons. AC in all 3 bedrooms, fans throughout the house. This classic North Fork home has two double bedrooms on the Ground Floor - one with Queen bed, the other with two Twin beds that zip and link to make a King if preferred. The family bathroom is located in-between the two bedrooms, shower and bathtub, ens-suite with one of the bedrooms. A large, open plan and fully equipped self-catering kitchen and dining room, with seating for 8, leads to a walk through pantry, and seperate utility room with washer, dryer, iron and board. Outdoor shower, gas BBQ and patio dining set under the shade of the wraparound terrace above offers cool outdoor dining. Huge side yard for games.
On the second floor, a bright and airy living room with cathedral ceiling leads to a large wrap-around sun deck. Master bedroom suite with Queen bed and attached, full, en-suite bathroom with shower. Above the master bedroom is a galleried sleeping area overlooking the Living Room, with Full size double bed.
Our goal is to provide a well-maintained, spotlessly clean and tidy house, where our guests can feel at home and have everything needed for a fun, relaxing and restful vacation.

There are now some 50 wineries and vineyards on the North Fork of Long Island, all within easy reach. We are surrounded by farm stands selling local produce from Spring through Fall.
Rent kayaks and small boats, swim off your beach, play golf, fish, browse antique shops, enjoy fine dining in the many restaurants.
Follow a walking trail, take the ferry from Greenport to Shelter Island (10 minutes) and the Hamptons (another 4 minutes) or stop in Greenport, a thriving historical seaport village, and take your children on the Victorian Carousel. The area has many excellent restaurants to enjoy, antique shops, art and crafts galleries to browse.
There are numerous special events throughout the year. In addition, we have Splish Splash Water park and a spectacular Aquarium in Riverhead, which also offers day trips by boat.

Wifi throughout the house (high speed broadband internet). Please note that AC is window AC is all 3 bedrooms, fans in all other rooms. The third floor is a loft sleeping area with full size (double) bed, but limited privacy. The two twin beds in one of the ground floor bedrooms can be zipped and linked to make a proper King bed, and we have 2 Graco Pack 'N Play Travel Cots, one bedroom will accommodate both if you have twins. So accommodation is very flexible, please call us to discuss your requirements.

- Other Fees: All things being equal, none. Security deposit is fully refundable if the house is left as it is found. Rent includes utilities, a normal end of stay clean, 100% cotton linens and towels, trash removal, BBQ gas, Satellite TV, local phone service, high speed internet (wifi) etc. Please ask us for further details, available online or by email.

waterfront, August 18, 2009 "Thank you for the beautiful weather, it was sunny all day and rained at night! We had a lovely stay.
We absolutely loved the hike at Shelter Island at the Mashomak Preserve - take the red trail to the blue-green one to the beautiful beach. Even 3 yrd old Alex can hike it! We had our picnic on the beach.
Our dinner at "Fifth Season" was delicious! The monkfish was one of the best fish entrees we've had (considering we've been to lots of restaurants in LA, NY, France & Italy, this was no mean feat). Also, their Calamari and hot cherry peppers was very good.
We tasted [local wines] at Paumanok and Peconic Bay Vineyards. The scallops at Braun's were delicious, as were the fresh asparagus and spinach.
The house was very comfortable. We loved eating and sitting on the [second floor] deck. The rabbits/geese and swans were charming. Thank you for a relaxing long weekend. We all did get to swim."

We've had a lovely time here and found all that we needed in the house, for cooking and for the wonderful and popular beach. It's been a dream for our aspiring young marine biologists :-)
While here, we went to Atlantis in Riverhead (be sure to call ahead to reserve for swimming in the Rays Tank), poked around Greenport and Love Lane, played on Orient Beach State Park. Our highlight was probably a sail out in the bay with Captain Bob of Polar Marina, who we found in the information in your "Things to Do" folder. Beautiful!
Thanks for putting lots of love into the house. I hope we'll be back!

"The house & The North Fork were great places to unwind after a hectic few days in Manhattan. Although it's still early Spring, we enjoyed bright, clear days (enough sun for me to get a sunburnt scalp!) and had great walks at Mashomack (Shelter Island) and Orient Beach, the highpoint of which was seeing the first Ospreys arrive at their nests.
We'd have liked to spend more time in/ on the water (although Joe did jump in off the dock dared by his brother and sister!) - but that can wait for another time. Great food at the Seafood Barge!"

The 4 Duffners (2 ex Long Islanders) plus the children travelled from NC to Southold via Stewart Manor. Ate lots of seafood, NY breakfast at local delies, boat rental at Captain Marty's (Cutchogue), fishing pole, bait and tackle daily from Port of Egypt....Amy's sister arrived Wednesday via Orient Pt (from Maine) with fresh steamers and lobsters.
