Description of the Southwest Harbor vacation cottage rental

This recently renovated two bedroom summer cottage is nestled in the woods of Manset on the shore road, with a small pond off the deck and a peek-a-boo view of the ocean and mountains. There are two bedrooms, a bath, and a great room with kitchen, dining, and living areas.

Area Description

Manset, located 1.5 miles south of Southwest Harbor, (on the quietside of Mount Desert island) is the home of the famous Hinckley Boat Yard and some of the most beautiful views of Somes Sound, the mountains, and the waters of Mt. Desert Island. The cottage is within easy walking distance of the boatyard, the town dock, boat rentals, two churches, excellent restaurants, the FREE island bus shuttle, and much more.

The surrounding area of Mt. Desert Island is rich with beauty and loaded with things to do. Hiking and biking on Acadia National Park trails, sailing, motor boating, beachcombing, swimming, rock climbing, golfing, whale watching, antique shopping and eating delicious seafood are among the many activities within a very short drive of Manset.

WOW! That's the first thing that came to mind while driving on to MDI for our first time. It's also the first thought when driving into the cute little wooded driveway labeled "Spruce Cottage". The grounds are beautiful and well-kept, the cottage is cozy and the view out of the bedroom window (and within a short walk) are unreal. My wife and I have been up and down the East and West coasts of this country and are convinced that Acadia seems more like the Pacific NW than the Atlantic NE. Acadia is truly one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen...

Above all the scenery, hiking, walking, travelling and picture-taking, what stands out to this "suburbanite" is the quiet, calm and cozy cottage we stayed in. It has been a great reminder that there is much more to life than television, music and other entertainment. Give me a fresh breeze, the sound of bull frogs, a gentle fog and a nice book - now that's a nice evening.
The cottage is lovely & the many little 'extras' were greatly appreciated. (IN)
What a way to discover frogs, fog, friends and foibles, all in one fabulous corner of Maine. (GA)

Spruce Cottage is so inviting and peaceful. Staying here is a rejuvenating experience in an enchanting place. (NYC)

We have LOVED our stay in Spruce Cottage. Quiet, peaceful, a real slice of solitude which we very much needed. (MA)

This is our fifth trip to Maine and by far the best cottage. It is so spacious with lots of room to put our stuff. It's a very restful place. (MA)

This cottage was an awesome place to stay. Just the right size, clean and has everything you need. We enjoyed watching the pond, looking for frogs and biking along the shore road. (MA)

Like everyone else who stayed here, I dreaded having to leave. The cottage is wonderful and the little 'touches' you provided made the place seem more like a home... (Korea)

We had a wonderful week and loved the quiet, yet accessible, location. (VA)
