Description of the Southwest Harbor vacation cottage rental
This wonderfully situated cottage combines convenience, privacy, and direct access to the shore, where there is a wide beach framed by massive ledges replete with tidepools, mussel beds, and other fascinations for young and old. The cottage is a comfortably furnished, fully equipped vacation home with a large deck and, if requested, use of our canoe. On the ground level are living room, dining el, full kitchen, master BR, bath, and laundry. The second floor contains a very large room with twin beds at one end and an additional single bed at the other as well as a full bath.
We ordinarily lease on a Sunday to Sunday basis, with some flexibility on this during shoulder seasons. Weekly rental rates and availability for the 2009 are:
May 31 - June 14: $900 June 14 - 28: $1050
June 28 - July 26: $1500 Aug. 30 - Sept 6: $1350
Sept. 6 - 20: $1050 Sept. 20 onwards: $950
Maine imposes a 7% tax. Security deposit, $200. Electrical usage in excess of $50/week may be charged to tenant.
Ours is a prime location at the tip of Clark Point, which lies between Southwest Harbor and Somes Sound. The cottage enjoys a private location about 100' back from the shore with views over a hay field to mouth of Somes Sound and the mountains of Acadia Park. From our cottage, it is a three minute walk in one direction to the historic Claremont Hotel, with its tennis and croquet courts, dock, and fine restaurant. In the other, it is three minutes to the town dock, lobster wharf and pick-up point for the free Acadia bus. A few minutes further walk brings you to the ferry dock with service to the Cranberry Isles. Southwest Harbor town center is now less than a half mile, as are boat and bike rental facilities, the Gilley Museum, and varied restaurant and shopping opportunities. The lakes and mountain trails of Acadia Park are within a 5-35 minute drive, as are the Causeway Club and Kebo Valley golf courses (both open to the public at reasonable rates). In short, this is the place to be for a vacation during which everyone will be happily engaged.
