Description of the Springfield vacation cottage rental
The cottage has one bedroom upstairs, with two double beds, a dresser and floor mirror. The main floor holds a sleeper sofa in the living room, and a futon in the front room, sleeping a total of six guests within the main home. There is a full bath with a tub/shower on the main floor, and a half-bath in the upstairs bedroom. A separate, Route 66 themed, guest quarters/game room - complete with foosball table and electronic dart system is located immediately next to the home, literally three steps out of the back door. The half-bath within this game room, makes this an ideal get-away for the teens, or a fun family room for all to enjoy. A futon within this room provides a sleeping area for two.
The fully-equipped kitchen features stove, refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker (with coffee and condiments), can opener, cookware, and dishes and flatware for 12. Chautauqua Escape is perfect for relaxing and unwinding. But if you need to keep in touch or make your visit a working holiday the cottage includes a computer (with games for the kids) and wireless high-speed internet. Use it to find even more hidden treasures as you explore Illinois! Also, please note, smoking IS allowed on the porch or outside of the home.
Chautauqua Escape is a charming cottage located in the eclectic river community of Chautauqua Park, near Petersburg, IL. Situated in the heart of Abraham Lincoln country, the cottage is only 2 miles from New Salem State Historical Site where Lincoln tended store and surveyed the surrounding area. 3 miles away is historic Petersburg, home of Edgar Lee Masters (Spoon River Anthology). Nearby are wineries and antiques waiting to be discovered.
The nationally acclaimed Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum are located in Springfield, an easy twenty-minute drive through rolling prairies. While there, visit the only home Lincoln ever owned, and pay your respects at his graveside. Summer at Chautauqua Escape finds an abundance of roadside stands selling fresh produce and melons. Bike along the river or into the restored 19th century village with bicycles provided for your enjoyment.
In the fall, the cottage can be your home base for the beautiful Spoon River drive, for enjoying the breathtaking fall colors, or when you bag that trophy buck at the Jim Edgar Panther Creek Conservation Area, just 15 minutes away. The cottage sits on a beautiful 5 acre lake, and is a short walk from the lazy Sangamon River, where a young Lincoln navigated his flatboat to New Orleans in 1853. Sit on the back porch or barbeque in the back yard and watch for Canadian geese and ducks that frequently stop by to visit.
