Description of the St George Island vacation home rental

This home sits on north side of road, high on the bluff overlooking St. George Sound. We have 250 feet of private bayfront on south side with a large grassy area and palm trees. The property has shallow water for about 400-500 feet out. The property sits on four acres and backs up to the National forest. We have a large screened in pool,(can be heated in those cool months), and a great octagon shaped deck for sunbathing when you decide not to beach it. There is also a nice screened in area with great views of The Sound as well. St. George Island and the small towns of Carrabelle, Eastpoint, and Apalachicola are just minutes away and offer good seafood restaurants, grocery stores, small shops, and fresh seafood markets.

There are three bedrooms, two with queen beds and one with twin beds. There is seating at the kitchen bar, separate dining room, and in the screened porch area. Kitchen has stainless two door frig, oven, microwave, dishwasher, and ceramic cooktop. Living area has a large flat screen TV and also flat screen in master bedroom. There is also a sitting area off the master. Both bathrooms have walk-in ceramic tile showers.

If renting in fall, winter, or spring, ask if the pool can be heated and the fee.

If you are a golfer, the St. James Bay Golf Course is only about 20 minutes away. It is a world class golf course and the areas only Audubon Signature Sanctuary.

Wildlife and marinelife are plentiful. We are also one of Florida's great fishing areas. Whether its fresh water, bay and flats fishing, or off-shore, a day on the water is usually a successful day. Guests can catch a variety of species of fish including redfish, speckled trout, flounder, spanish mackeral and so much more right out in front of the house. However, if you would like a guide to take you out, there are numerous great captains in Carrabelle and Apalachicola. There are also boats and sailboats available to rent if you want to have your own journey. We have several docks on the New River in Carrabelle that can also be used for your convenience and pleasure. The New River is very beautiful and quiet and makes a great place to relax and enjoy the wildlife.

Our home is just outside of the town of Eastpoint. The Eastpoint waterfront is filled with small seafood houses. Lots of oyster boats and shrimp boats line the waterfront. The seafood markets offer fresh shrimp, fish (grouper, snapper, flounder, mullet), oysters, scallops, blue crab, and more.

Places of interest: Oyster Capital of the World, Eastpoint; Layayette Park, Apalachicola; Chapman Botanical Gardens, Apalachicola; Orman House built in 1838, Apalachicola National Estuary Research Reserve; St. Vincent National Park Museum; John Gorrie Museum; St. George Island State Park; St. George Island Lighthouse/Cape St. George Light; World's Smallest Police Station, Carrabelle; Crooked River Lighthouse, Carrabelle; Camp Gordon Johnston WWII Museum; Walt G. Kendrick Dwarf Cypress Boardwalk, and much much more.

Area Information

The house sits on four acres on north side of road on the hill offering fantastic views of St. George Sound from almost every room. There is 250 feet bayfront on south side of road. The enclosed pool overlooks the bay and can be heated for an additional charge. You have your own small beach area with shallow water for several hundred feet out offering lots of fun for children swimming and shelling, and good fishing and sunbathing for the adults. In addition the beaches of St. George Island and Carrabelle are just minutes away. And be sure to visit the historic town of Apalachicola with it's great restaurants, quaint little shops, eco tours, and historic homes. You'll also want to make a trip to the Florida Estuary Research Center with tanks of all the marinelife indigenous to our area and a trip up the Wakulla River at Wakulla Springs State Park is just 40 minutes away.

The park ranger will take your family for about an hour trip ($8 currently for adults) up this beautiful crystal clear river to see lots of gators, turtles, birds, fish, and beautiful vegetation. (The Old Florida) AND some of the manatees have been staying there year round recently. After your trip, go for a swim in this beautiful spring. (I believe the largest in Florida) If in July or August, bring you snorkel gear for scallop season. You may have luck snorkeling right there.
