Description of the St Simons Island vacation cottage rental
Notice! There have been quite a few additions to the vacation rental market on St. Simons Island over the past year or more. This is primarily due to the economic crisis. Many homes may not be well furnished or may be in trouble financially, so make sure you do your homework!
Walk to the Village or Pier, instead of having to park, for a drink in the evening or a cup of coffee in the morning. This is especially handy for big events where parking is at a premium, such as music at the lighthouse, festivals, art shows and the fireworks during the 4th of July!
The neighborhood is quiet and friendly and has easy access to the many bicycle and walking paths that St. Simons Island has to offer.
We have three cottages so check our new site for an up to date calendar! Look for Island Cottage Company, which is our new 'official' name!
A sliding glass door leads from the bar/den to the large outdoor deck for great entertaining. A large fenced-in back yard allows the kids and dogs a good place to run. You could challenge our nextdoor neighbor G, a veteran of World War II, to a game of Horse Shoes. All the neighbors are great and we take care to ensure that our guests feel at home and respect the folks that live here permanently.
Area Information
The Pool - It might be the only public pool located right on the water on this coast! It is located right next to the lighhouse and is absolutely beautiful (the pride of St. Simons). Swim lessons are offered in the summertime and lots of locals gather here. Parents can visit the library, the shops or just take a walk while the kids swim. Big kids can ride down by themselves to join their friends!
Golf - Several beautiful public Golf Courses are available with fees starting as low as $28 with cart.
The Village - Cottage is within easy walking distance to two parks (Mallory Park and Neptune Park), public pool, tennis, public library and the beach. Summer music festivals feature jazz and other local music groups. Bring a bottle of wine and some appetizers!
Dining - From locally prepared seafood at many fine local
establishments, to some of our great southern BBQ with sweet tea, dining on St. Simons Island is always a great experience. A whole range of dining options begins in the village, just down the street. A quiet walk to and from dinner is one of our family's favorite things about living in this area!
Fishing - Off-shore Deep Sea Fishing charters available most days weather permitting; Inland Waterway fishing excellent year-round; surf fishing right on the beach or at the Pier. Try your hand at crabbing off the pier with the local kids or seining on the beach to see what you can catch!
Dolphin Tours - Take a boat and see the dolphins up close. You can also see lots of dolphins swimming right offshore on your beach walks!
Try the Casino Cruise for an evening of offshore dinner and gambling.
Hiking, Exploring - St. Simons Island is literally surrounded by state and national parks. Take a ferry to Cumberland Island National Seashore for a historical walking tour or see Okefenokee Swamp by boat or canoe. Little Talbot Island, Big Talbot Island, Fort Clinch,
and Guana River State Park systems - along with the Sapelo Island Estuary - offer an unprecedented view of Georgia and North Florida's natural beauty.
Sea Kayaking - Paddle through many backwater saltmarsh tributaries. Guided tours available through local adventure companies.
Horseback Riding - Available through the Sea Island stables located on the North end of St. Simons Island. Go for a nice ride right on the beach!
Biking - Ride along the beach on a beach cruiser, or use the bike paths to pick up your groceries for dinner. For a real challenge, ride your bikes all the way to the north end of the island to tour Christ Church and Fort Frederica, the site of the original settlement on St. Simons Island.
Shopping - Historic and quaint, St. Simons Island Village is within walking distance and is full of cute shops. Spa services upscale shops abound on St. Simons if you want to splurge! Both the metropolitan areas of Jacksonville and Historic Savannah are a one hour drive away.
Tennis - Just down the street are public tennis courts that are free to the public. These courts are in great shape and you'll see our family there on a sunny afternoon year round!
Pilots - St. Simons Island McKenna airport is less than a mile from the cottage.
Sports Fans - Jacksonville is home to the NFL's largest stadium - Alltel Stadium - brand new and located 60 minutes away. Catch a Jaguars game. This is also home to the annual Georgia-Florida rivalry. During football season you can join the many who come to St. Simons Island for all the festivities.
Theatre - Choose from our local theatre group, the Island Players, located in the Village next to the library or take a drive to Jacksonville or Savannah where several fine theatres present extraordinary shows for your entertainment. The Alhambra Dinner Theatre presents dinner and fine Broadway shows. The Florida Theatre hosts the Symphony, Pops and many fine traveling Jazz, Dance and
other entertainers each season. Each year the FCCJ Artist Series featuring Broadway shows has a number of fine shows at the Time-Union Center for the Performing Arts.
Movies - There is a large cineplex on St. Simons Island and the Casino Theatre at the Village offers free movies on Friday nights!
Museums - In addition to the Lighthouse Museum and Fort Frederica, the Cummer Museum, Brest Planetarium, Zoological Gardens, Museum of Modern Art, Aviation Museum, Maritime Museum Society, Museum of Southern History and Kingsley Plantation are just some of the major attractions that make wonderful regional day trips.
Go to the Zoo! Just 60 minutes south is the beautiful Jacksonville Zoo, positioned along the St. John's river. The zoo is quite nice and can take a full day to see everything properly.
Visit the Millionaires Village on Jeklyl Island, just south of St. Simons, for a view of how the rich and famous vacationed during the Industrial Revolution. Family 'cottages' with names like Morgan, Crane and
Carnegie await you during this short 1/2 day trip.

March 21, 2013
We returned to winter in Michigan this week, and I'm SO homesick for SSI and "our house." The Piper was perfect for us and I'd recommend any of Michele's properties in a second. They are clean, tastefully decorated, and well-stocked with kitchen supplies, lots of towels, extra pillows and blankets,.... All we needed to do was buy food. Our two little dogs LOVED the yard (and, of course, running on the beach). We loved the area and neighborhood was quiet and peaceful. My husband and I both use computers, and we were able to set up office areas in separate rooms. Having the internet and three TV's was awesome. Oh! There were lots of spices for cooking. The washer and dryer worked just fine. Michele had cleaning people come during our stay...which was lovely. You can get HOT water at any faucet within 6 seconds...and the hot water never ran out (even with company and multiple showers). It was a luxury to have 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 "family" rooms with televisions, 2 offices. I've found it's rare to get so much from a rental. There are books -- novels, cookbooks, travel guides, and magazines. If you need information during your stay, Michele is always a phone call away and very helpful. The Piper is Cozy, SUPER Clean, and well-appointed. Do not hesitate to rent this sweet home!

Everything in this beautiful cottage is absolutely perfect. We could have not enjoyed our stay more and our labs agree. We look forward to our stay next year.

The island is fabulous!! Good restaurants, plenty to see and do! The Piper Cottage was perfect for us, the kids, and the dogs! The Piper is a well done, well furnished beachy feeling home away from home. The owners are attentive, friendly, and accommodating giving just the right personal touch to our arrival and stay with them. We'll be back!!!

We actually stayed in Piper Cottage for 3 months - end of Nov. 2011 thru beginning of March 2012. It was awesome - the quintessential beach cottage. Everything we needed to relax and enjoy was provided. It really did feel like a second home. We walked into the village everyday. It was great to have wonderful dining choices and the beautiful Pier Village so nearby. We had our 3 dogs in tow and we all enjoyed the large fenced-in yard. Scott Beveridge even build a ramp from the deck to the yard to accommodate our lab who has trouble with stairs. He and Michele were the greatest. We enjoyed their friendship immensely. Highly recommend Piper Cottage, the Beveridges, and St. Simons Island. Can't wait to return next winter.

This cottage is perfect, the owner is terrific. We rented a golf cart and had a great time going all over the island. Would definitely go back!

Bunny and Retrievers Avoid Winter
February 5, 2010
My two Golden Retrievers and I spent the month of January in the "cute cottage", which is aptly named. Michele (owner) made us feel welcome immediately, with wine, cheese, crackers and fruit upon our arrival--quite a treat after an 11 hour drive from KY. I loved the decor, attention to cottage "details", linen "service", and location to the adorable downtown village. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a cozy, friendly experience in a delightful place. Bunny Holman, Lexington, KY

My husband and I brought our dog with us to "cute cottage" and spent a very enjoyable week there. The house was so homey and comfortable. We liked walking to the park and village. The beach was a short drive away. We liked the sunny porch in front and the large deck out back. The fully enclosed yard made time with our morning coffee carefree since our dog did not have to be supervised. The owners are wonderful people. It was a treat to get to know them. Don't miss the coffee shop in the village and the fish market in the plaza. The smoked salmon and gumbo are wonderful. We plan to return next year.

My fiance and I have stayed at this wonderful home on three different occasions. We would choose no other place to stay on the island. The owners have treated us like family from the first time we met. I have recommended the cottage to anyone who would listen, and my family will use both of the owners properties during our up coming wedding weekend. Don't miss out, come to SSI as soon as you can. You will never want to leave this great home!

Cozy and Adorable!
October 24, 2008
I stayed at Cute Cottage for over 30 days and absolutely loved it! The screened in porch was my favorite for relaxing outside without being in the hot Geogria sun. The backyard is huge with a grill and nice deck for a BBQ. Owner is very responsive to any needs and offers services not often found in other long term or even short term rentals (free cleaning, laundering of linens, basic supplies such as soaps, detergent, beach towels, paper towels, etc). Quiet, friendly neighborhood is perfect for families with small children and the St. Simon's pier area is a short walk for adults! Highly recommend this property and will be looking to stay again if I go back to the area.
