Quiet cottage by beautiful, clean Maine lake (#42159)
Stoneham, MaineDescription of the Stoneham vacation cottage rental
Located on the western shore of Lake Keewaydin on a very quiet, private road, the cottage has a beautiful, open view across Lake Keewaydin to the east that provides for beautiful sunrises. Many people who have stayed at the cottage remark at how pleasant and relaxing it is to sit on the porch while they read or socialize. The cottage has a living room with stereo, sitting/TV/reading room, full bath with shower, and complete kitchen on the first floor. It has two bedrooms on the second floor - one with a double bed and the other with twin beds. A small, comfortable, single sleeping area is found under the staircase. It is heated by a propane wall heater. The kitchen is fully equipped and complete with a gas stove, large refrigerator, sink and abundant counter areas and cabinets. It is surrounded on two sides by a large covered porch, with a 16-foot portion completely enclosed by screens. In addition, there is a very cozy, separate, Scandinavian-type bunk house close to the lake that contains two bunk beds, seating and a small, private porch - ideal for children. Outside, there is ample room for play by the lake, with a barbeque pit, hammock and area for a horse-shoe game.
The cottage comes complete with a canoe, dock and swimming float - assuring a great time by the lake. During the months of July and August, the lake water temperature is typically very comfortable – ranging from 75 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit, depending on whether there has been a great deal of sun or rain. The water is very clean because the leak is fed by streams from the mountains, and there few large boats and jet skis are not allowed on the lake. Therefore, the lake assures a unique experience and a range of opportunities to have a fun and relaxing vacation.
The cottage is located about 2 miles from the center of the town of Stoneham, Maine, with its general store, and a mile from wilderness hiking trails. Lake Keewaydin is located in the mountains of Western Maine, within a 40-minute drive of North Conway, NH (and the shopping outlets) and less than one hour from Mount Washington, the highest point in the northeastern US and the Presidential Range of mountains. The Eastern portion of the White Mountain National Forest and its abundant hiking trails is located within a mile of the cottage. In addition, there are private paths and hiking trails throughout the region. Two public golf courses can be found within a 15 to 20-minute drive, one in Norway (9 holes) and another in Lovell, Maine (18 holes). One of the most unusual pubs in the Northeast is adjacent to the second green of the Lake Kezar Country Club in Lovell. Within a 20 minute drive is the famous Deertrees Theater, located in Harrison, Maine. This theater has a continuous stream of top-notch entertainment and plays during the summer months. There are several inns in the region that provide excellent dining experiences. The cottage has been found to be an ideal place for quiet relaxation or an active life of mountain swimming, boating, biking, walking or hiking.

Many opportunities for mountain and wilderness hiking in the region, within a few miles. Dining at some of the local inns is outstanding. There is a private raft directly in front of the cottage. Canoeing is a major part of activities on the lake. Not many motor boaters use the lake.

I have not been so relaxed in years. The quiet of the woods and the sounds of the birds is such a change from my normal life. We would love to own such a neat place.
