Description of the Stonington vacation home rental

This New England Cape was built in the 1850’s, and has been in our family for many years. It is a pleasing blend of old and new, with wide pine floors, patterned tin ceilings, and comfortable furnishings. Bordered by woods on three sides, and Penobscot Bay to the east, you are given the ultimate in peace, quiet, and serenity. We have 600' of deepwater frontage, and magnificent views of the ocean, the Sunshine Peninsula, and the hills of Acadia National Park in the distance. For those who do want to remain connected to the outside world, we do provide high-speed Internet and Wi-fi.
We provide all appliances and a well-equipped kitchen (complete with lobster cooker!). Our most recent addition is an outside shower, screened for privacy but open to the sunshine and forest views. You'll never want to shower indoors again! Enjoy breakfast on the screened porch, walk on wooded trails adjacent to the property, paddle our canoe or kayaks to numerous islands and bays, take a ferry from Stonington to Isle au Haut, or relax and read a book in the Adirondack chairs on the deck. You can even harvest and eat mussels fresh from our shore!
Being conservation-minded people ourselves, we follow environmentally-friendly practices whenever possible, including recycling, composting, and the use of eco-friendly cleaning products. We have welcomed people to our home for 10 summers, and will do all we can to make this vacation perfect for you!

Area Information

The beauty of Deer Isle and its surrounding islands has been drawing artists and naturalists to the area for many years. Our house is ideally situated in that it offers peace, quiet, and seclusion, with kayaking, canoeing, and nature trails right from your door, as well as restaurants, shops, art galleries, and museums within a 10-15 minute drive. Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island, which offer scenic drives, fantastic bicycle riding, hiking, whale watching, and shopping are just 50 min. away. Or--choose to relax and do nothing! Wake to the calls of gulls, watch historic schooners sailing by, read a book in an Adirondack chair on the deck, enjoy lunch on the screened porch, and gather some mussels from our shore to enjoy for dinner with some lobsters from the local seafood coop--the perfect end to a perfect day.

A Lovely Place for a Great Vacation

April 4, 2013

Our family has stayed here twice for family reunions, and we love it! The best part is sitting out on the adirondack chairs and enjoying the spectacular view, reading a book, or watching the hummingbirds come to the feeder. We've used the house telescope to gaze at the stars, which are spectacular on a clear night. The house has a fully equipped kitchen, where we've done quite a bit of cooking for reunion dinners, and we've enjoyed many evenings on the screened porch. The house has cozy furnishings, and feels like home after a busy day of hiking at Acadia National Park or watching the lobster boat races at Stonington harbor. If we could come to Maine every summer and stay here we would! We really love this house, and Tim and Cathy are so warm and welcoming.

Beautiful spot on the water!

My family has rented this property twice now, in 2010 and 2012, while attending a nearby family reunion. It's a lovely place to get away and enjoy the peace and quiet, while still being close enough to Stonington to be able to pop into town for dinner or groceries when needed. The view from the front deck is amazing, and the side deck is screened so you can sit out and enjoy it even after dark. The kitchen is quite well stocked with cooking equipment, so we ended up doing a lot of our own cooking while we stayed there. I'd highly recommend the house to anyone who's looking for a relaxing getaway.

A Maine Paradise

March 20, 2013

My family rented this house in Oceanville for a number of years. It is a jewel, a quintessential cape built in the "perfect" location on a protective cove with very accessible waterfront for boats and wandering. We were able to moor a sailboat in front. The house provides a lot of room for gathering or sitting alone. Relaxing on the front porch, one can feel the hassles of modern life slip away. Yet, it is close to many art galleries, restaurants, and wonderful places to explore in Deer Isle, Stonington, or even Acadia. This property is part of the "Island Trail System" and is one of the finest areas along the Maine coast for kayaking, sailing, walking, or biking. It feels like a home away from home and the owners are as friendly and welcoming as their house.

Killer view!

March 12, 2013

Wow! What a find! Great people...great hospitality...great view. With 5 bedrooms everyone is very comfortable. This is the real Maine with deep water view and lobster boats going by. Very private with 6 acres and no neighbors in sight and numerous trails through the woods. A lot of nice amenities like gas grill, kayaks, library, screened in dining room. We spent many evenings out there enjoying the breeze off the ocean without the mosquitoes bothering us. Nearby Stonington is the most authentic lobster port on the coast with dirt cheap ($5 a pound!) lobsters at the fisherman's coop. Many, many things to do on this drive-to island. We will be back to see our friends the Emersons.

Perfect Spot

The only downside of this house is that it belongs to someone else! It has everything one would want in a vacation rental: natural beauty (SPECTACULAR views from the house and shore), space, seclusion, amenities ... It's kid- and adult-friendly and very well located on the island. Kathy and Tim are warm and welcoming hosts and do their best to make sure that you have everything you need for a comfortable stay.
