If you are a fisherman or woman, just ask us where the special places are where you can catch 16-19" trout, which is what we caught in 2014. The Orvis School of Flyfishing is in Manchester as is their flagship store. The Battenkill River is famous for fishing and is also great for canoeing with access points just south of Manchester.
If you love tubing and floating in its special swimming holes, there are entry points all along the West River from Jamaica to Newfane and beyond. We can direct you to those places.
If you're fond of horseback riding, a great stable is only 10 minutes from our home.
How about something unique? The Land Rover Driving School is located at the Equinox Hotel in Manchester. With an instructor at your side, take control of the wheel in challenging off-road situations.
June 30 through August 9, 2015, is the Vermont Summer Festival Horse show to be held at the Harold Beebe Farm in East Dorset. If you are a participant or spectator, we welcome you to stay in our home in 2015.
If you're lucky enough to be in Vermont in late July or mid-August, you're in for a treat! The Perseid Meteor Shower is always spectacular on a clear night, where you'll see at least one meteor a minute in a dazzling display right from a chair or blanket in the meadow or our brand new deck!
Here is a better description of the three amazing meteor showers that can be viewed from our meadow, which surrounds our home: July 28-29 The Delta Aquarids - predawn, about 20 bright-yellow meteors occur per hour. Look for meteors to fan out east, north and west. July 29-30 The Capricornids - known for producing brilliant fireballs. It's best to observe right after sunset. If you can see the Milky Way, you'll probably be able to see this shower. August 12-13 The Perseids - look toward the constellation Perseus (about halfway above the horizon in the northeast quadrant of the sky) in the late evening. Recline with your feet facing south and look straight up. The Perseids should appear over your left shoulder...you could see 60 meteors in an hour.
Local events coming up this summer as well as the picturesque fall foliage season:
The Bondville Fair, in late August, features agricultural displays and contests, quilt show and contest, crafts, rides and games, music, bingo, truck, ox and horse pulling, antique tractors, clog and line dancing.
The 31st Annual Peru Fair, held in late September, is rated by the state's Chamber of Commerce as among Vermont's Top 10 events. The homespun Peru Fair steps off with a 9:45 a.m. parade, followed by a pig roast, live music, dancing, hay rides and other entertainment. Dozens of local artisans and food vendors. Parking available at nearly Bromley Mountain, with shuttle buses provided to and from the village.
Columbus Day Weekend - The village of Newfane hosts its annual Heritage Festival on the common, a two-day craft show with great food served by the local church. If you like apple pie, this is the place to buy a yummy one, have some homemade soup and apple cobbler a la mode. The festival features something for everyone. Eighty juried crafters share the picturesque common with a farmer's market, inside and outside food booths, flea and book table, super raffle, children's corner, and musical entertainment. It's usually a beautiful fall foliage weekend!
Weston is just a short drive with it's Vermont Country Store (now open 7 days) and charming shops. Manchester, a shopper's paradise, is only 20 minutes away. The village of Ludlow and Okemo Mountain are 30 minutes away. Both Bromley and Magic are within a 15 minute drive. In summer, Bromley is buzzing with activity with its alpine slide and many other activities and entertainment for families with children. New at Bromley is the addition of the Sun Mountain Flyer, one of only ten in the world, boasting four separate 1/2 mile zip lines!
Our home is located on a quiet country road off Route 100, which "has been called the most scenic in New England" by Yankee magazine writer Michael Blanding. "In some circles, it's known as the 'Skier's Highway,' since it connects Vermont's giants - Mount Snow, Killington, Sugarbush, and Stowe - like knots on a whip." Let's not forget Stratton, which is only 15 minutes from our door!
"But this road really comes into its own in autumn, hitting the peak of fall foliage not once but many times as it traces and up and down course along the unspoiled edge of Green Mountain State Forest."
For snowmobile enthusiasts, we're not far from VAST trails in Bondville, off Kendall Farm Road, or in Londonderry off Route 11. Visit the Vermont Vast site for more info and to purchase trail maps.
Restaurants to be found nearby are The Mill, Swiss Inn, American Grill, SoLo, Jake's, and Whiskey Dick's.

Great place and location to stay in Vermont
November 2, 2014
As a result of our stay last September, 2013, we decided to stay once again at this home with our new dog, Luca. The location is great and very accessible (as I mentioned in our review from last year). The owners are very accomodating and interested in providing good services to their renters. The house is very clean and well maintained. The location is private, yet close to shops and stores. The fact that it is close to Rte. 100 and Rte. 11 makes it close to many of the main roads in Vermont where you need to travel (east to west and north to south) to get to wherever you want to go in the state. Our beloved German Shepherd was very happy with 'her' stay away from her home in PA. When you have a large dog, it is always better to have some space for them to relax and enjoy their time away from home. Luca thanks the owners for her gift. And, above all, we hope to be back again in the near future. Thanks again Linda and Henry.

The perfect place for a seasonal family rental
July 11, 2011
We rented the house from December 2010 - April 2011 and had a great time. The setting is idyllic , the house well appointed and in great shape. Also, for the first time we did not really have to bring anything since the house is extremely well equipped - particularly the kitchen which we enjoyed tremendously since we are into cooking. The rooms are very cozy thus, making you feel to come home rather than to a rental place. The house is perfectly situated if you want to enjoy the skiing areas around since it's not only pretty close to Stratton, but also to Bromley, Magic Montain and Okemo. The only caveat is the driveway - if you do not have a 4-wheel-drive you will have difficulty making the drive up in the snow. The driveway gets cleaned whenever necessary but it's still tough to get up if you have a regular car.
What a wonderful week!
August 17, 2009
I can't say enough good things about our stay. The house is beautiful, the location is great. Horseback riding, canoeing, all within a short drive. A great hiking trail right at the end of the driveway. And it was just easy to live there. All of the little things that we thought we'd need were already supplied. Thanks so much to our hosts, Linda and Henry!
First we would like to thank the owners for the warm welcome when we arrived and found pancake mix and Vermont maple syrup on the kitchen table awaiting us. When we decided to take this vacation, we wanted to do a bit of traveling thru Vermont to visit its' many beautiful sites that we had not seen before and revisit some of our regulars. We have been frequent travelers to Vermont for many years and find it is more cost-efficient to rent a home than stay in a motel if you plan on staying 5 days or more. This home is a beautiful, well-kept and well-organized home on a very private, yet accessible road in South Londonderry. We were looking for a good location close to main roads and yet not far from a supermarket, stores, and restaurants. We were close to Rt. 100, Rt. 11 and very accessible to Rt. 7, Rt. 4, and other main roads (i.e. Rt. 89), taking you to all of your travel destinations. We wanted to visit Weston-15 min., Manchester-20 min., Arlington-30 min., Ludlow-30 min, Woodstock-1 hr., Montpelier-2 hrs., Waterbury-2 1/4 hrs, Burlington-2 1/2 hrs., etc. We even traveled to visit our friends at the Monastery of New Skete in Cambridge, NY-1 hr., (not far from Arlington) with no travel problems due to our base in South Londonderry. This is a very convenient location to travel from. Even if you got back late from your travels, there are two good places to eat within 10 minutes from the home (Jake's-good pizza and The New American Grill-also offering takeout) plus a supermarket in the same shopping center for picking up your last minute necessities. Travel Rt. 11 west and you will find a multitude of restaurants to enjoy. We celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary at Johnny Seesaw's on Rt. 11 (great prime rib). The house is a beautiful one level home. It is very clean and efficient. The basement has so many accommodations for children and adults, it is unbelievable (i.e. pool table, air hockey, basketball, ping pong table, tv with games, and a multitude of toys and games to keep the children occupied). The property is a great place for pets and children to have fun and run and play outside. It is also a good place for seniors to rest, relax, and enjoy the beauty of the Vermont countryside. We definitely plan on returning to this beautiful home-away-from home in the near future. Thanks so much for sharing your home with us.

Thank you so much for letting us stay here for a while. We had a wonderful time. We did a lot of cool stuff and saw a lot of cool things. Coming to Vermont is one of the highlights of our year and we already can't wait for next year. The time went by way too fast! Thanks again. The Kids. Thanks, it was another great vacation! Best year for the Perseids (although the clouds crept in just before peak---next year!) Great time! The Adults.
Jay, NY, August 2012
Linda & Henry, It was another great stay, although not the best for meteor showers--too much moon...
Thank you for letting us stay here again. We all had a wonderful time!
Jay and family, NY, August 2014
Thank you very much. A cool vacation. The house is beautifully located. Provides silence and peace. This is what we were looking for. Thank you.
Regards, Barbara and family, NY, Summer 2014
It's refreshing to find a home like yours that is so well taken care of and so very clean and inviting! It started our week off on a high note that only got better. We brought our two young grandchildren up to Vermont from South Jersey, which was very hot. It was lovely to be here in the mountains. The home is in such a perfect spot and your description of it was so true to your listing, so nice to have our own little private piece of Vermont for a little while...
It was nice to find such a well equipped kitchen and a great variety of books and games. Something we were particularly impressed with was the comfort of the beds!
We took hikes and bike rides on the trail at the end of your road...it must be even more beautiful in the fall when the leaves are changing. We took your suggestions for some of the local lakes and the children had a wonderful time in the water and so did we!
We appreciated your kindness in answering all of our questions before we arrived - we can tell you really did want us to enjoy every moment here.
It was nice to just sit on the deck and listen to the river down below in the late afternoon. The stars here are amazing at night and we brought the children out so they could see them too!
We even took them blueberry picking and made a homemade pie, and enjoyed blueberry pancakes. Thank you! We do that at home, too, but this pie tasted extra good!
Thank you for sharing your home. We're sorry we had to leave, but we'll definitely be back!
Barbara, New Jersey, Summer, 2013
My wife and I met up with our US based son's family (wife and two daughters aged 5 and 3) at this lovely house. The location is excellent for swimming in pools and rivers, hiking on trails and cycling...and probably much more... that we just did not have time for!! We found the house well maintained and equipped. It was very clean with great play areas in both the grounds and basement.
(Five stars) Ian - Wales, Summer 2012
Thanks for letting us use your house. Your house is pretty. We enjoyed playing ping pong and pool. My dad loves the pool table. We hope we can come again next summer! The new deck on the front was PERFECT for watching the Perseids!
Jay and family, NY, Summer 2010
On arrival: We arrived and we wanted to thank you right away for all the wonderful updates!! My kids (and myself) are very excited about the new books and videos. We are hoping for a rainy day so we can hibernate. Thanks for thinking of us! The new deck will be perfect, I'm looking forward to a morning cup of coffee out there tomorrow. Thank you! We are so happy to be back.
On departure: Thank you so much for the comfortable stay. Once again my family had a fabulous time and your accommodations had a lot to do with it! The cleanliness and upkeep is remarkable and the upgrades as mentioned were appreciated immensely. The kids are already talking about next year. If all is well we will be in touch again sometime in January.
Daniel & Estee, NJ, Summer 2010

Thank you very much for letting us stay at your house. I really enjoyed playing pool! :) Sincerely, K, NY, Summer 2009
Your house is awesome. We had a great time. Thanks.
From T, NY, Summer 2009
Had a wonderful time...it's a VERY beautiful place...what a piece of heaven! Thanks for everything.
Donna & Michael, MA, Summer 2009
We wanted to thank you so much, your house was perfect for us in so many ways. The kids loved the backyard, the toys and my 9 year old daughter was amazed that you had the same type of books that she loves to read. The cleanliness and tasteful decorations were much appreciated as well. Everything was so new and the cedar smelled great. We really enjoyed the remoteness and privacy as well. We are very much hoping to return next year. We already planned part of our itinerary and my kids claimed their beds. Estee and family, NJ, Summer, 2009
Thank you for letting us stay at your house. I really enjoyed it. My favorite thing or things I should say, is...THE BOOKS!! I just loved them! It was the best! My favorite book was "Samantha Saves the Day." I loved that book. It was the best vacation ever. Thanks to no one but you!!
Sincerely, M, New Jersey, Summer 2009
We are a family of 7 with 5 kids between the ages of 8 and 13. This house was just perfect for us!!! I can't say enough how much we loved staying here during our winter ski season. We skied Stratton, Bromley and Okemo, they are all just around the corner and very convenient. An added bonus is the hospitality of the owners; they are just great people who are honest and attentive to your needs. I would highly recommend staying at this lovely home.
Chris L., New York, Winter Season 2005-06
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this house in July '06. We loved the location & the property itself. Kitchen was well-stocked. Our dogs also loved the spot & the special treats from the owners. We hope to stay there again!
Heather, Providence, RI, July 2006
