Area Information
In summer, you can hike or bike the lovely West River Trail, which is accessed from our road and follows the West River through the peaceful Vermont woods. Just hop on your bike from our door and leave the car behind.
Don't miss the Strolling of the Heifers held in June, 2014,, down Main Street in Brattleboro. This parade features up to 100 heifer calves, bedecked in flowers and led by future farmers, followed by cows, bulls, horses, goats, poultry, floats, tractors, bands, clowns, and much, much more!
From Memorial Day through Columbus Day, stroll through the Farmer's Market on Saturdays in Londonderry showcasing the fresh vegetables and foods grown and made in Vermont. Enjoy the many 4th of July parades, nearby fishing, canoeing and kayaking lakes, old swimming holes (just ask us!), flea market in Newfane on Sundays, Townshend Auction for unique finds and entertaining auctioneer, and many church suppers and delicious restaurants. For golfers, spend the day at numerous golf courses just a short drive from our home.
If you are a fisherman or woman, just ask us where the special places are where you can catch 16-22" trout, which is what we caught in 2012. The Orvis School of Flyfishing is in Manchester as is their flagship store. The Battenkill River is famous for fishing and is also great for canoeing with access points just south of Manchester.
If you love tubing and floating in its special swimming holes, there are entry points all along the West River from Jamaica to Newfane and beyond. We can direct you to those places.
If you're fond of horseback riding, a great stable is only 10 minutes from our home.
How about something unique? The Land Rover Driving School is located at the Equinox Hotel in Manchester. With an instructor at your side, take control of the wheel in challenging off-road situations.
July 2 through August 11, 2014, is the Vermont Summer Festival Horse show to be held at the Harold Beebe Farm in East Dorset. If you are a participant or spectator, we welcome you to stay in our home in 2014.
If you're lucky enough to be in Vermont in late July or mid-August, you're in for a treat! The Perseid Meteor Shower is always spectacular on a clear night, where you'll see at least one meteor a minute in a dazzling display right from a chair or blanket in the meadow or our brand new deck!
Here is a better description of the three amazing meteor showers that can be viewed from our meadow, which surrounds our home: July 28-29 The Delta Aquarids - predawn, about 20 bright-yellow meteors occur per hour. Look for meteors to fan out east, north and west. July 29-30 The Capricornids - known for producing brilliant fireballs. It's best to observe right after sunset. If you can see the Milky Way, you'll probably be able to see this shower. August 12-13 The Perseids - look toward the constellation Perseus (about halfway above the horizon in the northeast quadrant of the sky) in the late evening. Recline with your feet facing south and look straight up. The Perseids should appear over your left shoulder...you could see 60 meteors in an hour.
Local events coming up this summer as well as the picturesque fall foliage season:
The Bondville Fair, in late August, features agricultural displays and contests, quilt show and contest, crafts, rides and games, music, bingo, truck, ox and horse pulling, antique tractors, clog and line dancing.
The 30th Annual Peru Fair, held in late September, is rated by the state's Chamber of Commerce as among Vermont's Top 10 events. The homespun Peru Fair steps off with a 9:45 a.m. parade, followed by a pig roast, live music, dancing, hay rides and other entertainment. Dozens of local artisans and food vendors. Parking available at nearly Bromley Mountain, with shuttle buses provided to and from the village.
Columbus Day Weekend - The village of Newfane hosts its annual Heritage Festival on the common, a two-day craft show with great food served by the local church. If you like apple pie, this is the place to buy a yummy one, have some homemade soup and apple cobbler a la mode. The festival features something for everyone. Eighty juried crafters share the picturesque common with a farmer's market, inside and outside food booths, flea and book table, super raffle, children's corner, and musical entertainment. It's usually a beautiful fall foliage weekend!
Weston is just a short drive with it's Vermont Country Store (now open 7 days) and charming shops. Manchester, a shopper's paradise, is only 20 minutes away. The village of Ludlow and Okemo Mountain are 30 minutes away. Both Bromley and Magic are within a 15 minute drive. In summer, Bromley is buzzing with activity with its alpine slide and many other activities and entertainment for families with children. New at Bromley is the addition of the Sun Mountain Flyer, one of only ten in the world, boasting four separate 1/2 mile zip lines!
Our home is located on a quiet country road off Route 100, which "has been called the most scenic in New England" by Yankee magazine writer Michael Blanding. "In some circles, it's known as the 'Skier's Highway,' since it connects Vermont's giants - Mount Snow, Killington, Sugarbush, and Stowe - like knots on a whip." Let's not forget Stratton, which is only 15 minutes from our door!
"But this road really comes into its own in autumn, hitting the peak of fall foliage not once but many times as it traces and up and down course along the unspoiled edge of Green Mountain State Forest."
For snowmobile enthusiasts, we're not far from VAST trails in Bondville, off Kendall Farm Road, or in Londonderry off Route 11. Visit the Vermont Vast site for more info and to purchase trail maps.
Restaurants to be found nearby are The Mill, Johnny Seesaw's, Swiss Inn, American Grill, SoLo, and Jake's.

Reviews for this vacation home rental in Stratton Mountain, Vermont

The perfect place for a seasonal family rental
July 11, 2011
We rented the house from December 2010 - April 2011 and had a great time. The setting is idyllic , the house well appointed and in great shape. Also, for the first time we did not really have to bring anything since the house is extremely well equipped - particularly the kitchen which we enjoyed tremendously since we are into cooking. The rooms are very cozy thus, making you feel to come home rather than to a rental place. The house is perfectly situated if you want to enjoy the skiing areas around since it's not only pretty close to Stratton, but also to Bromley, Magic Montain and Okemo. The only caveat is the driveway - if you do not have a 4-wheel-drive you will have difficulty making the drive up in the snow. The driveway gets cleaned whenever necessary but it's still tough to get up if you have a regular car.

What a wonderful week!
August 17, 2009
I can't say enough good things about our stay. The house is beautiful, the location is great. Horseback riding, canoeing, all within a short drive. A great hiking trail right at the end of the driveway. And it was just easy to live there. All of the little things that we thought we'd need were already supplied. Thanks so much to our hosts, Linda and Henry!
Owner Supplied Testimonials

My wife and I met up with our US based son's family (wife and two daughters aged 5 and 3) at this lovely house. The location is excellent for swimming in pools and rivers, hiking on trails and cycling...and probably much more... that we just did not have time for!! We found the house well maintained and equipped. It was very clean with great play areas in both the grounds and basement.

Thanks for letting us use your house. Your house is pretty. We enjoyed playing ping pong and pool. My dad loves the pool table. We hope we can come again next summer! The new deck on the front was PERFECT for watching the Perseids!

On arrival: We arrived and we wanted to thank you right away for all the wonderful updates!! My kids (and myself) are very excited about the new books and videos. We are hoping for a rainy day so we can hibernate. Thanks for thinking of us! The new deck will be perfect, I'm looking forward to a morning cup of coffee out there tomorrow. Thank you! We are so happy to be back.
On departure: Thank you so much for the comfortable stay. Once again my family had a fabulous time and your accommodations had a lot to do with it! The cleanliness and upkeep is remarkable and the upgrades as mentioned were appreciated immensely. The kids are already talking about next year. If all is well we will be in touch again sometime in January.

We wanted to thank you so much, your house was perfect for us in so many ways. The kids loved the backyard, the toys and my 9 year old daughter was amazed that you had the same type of books that she loves to read. The cleanliness and tasteful decorations were much appreciated as well. Everything was so new and the cedar smelled great. We really enjoyed the remoteness and privacy as well. We are very much hoping to return next year. We already planned part of our itinerary and my kids claimed their beds. Estee and family, NJ, Summer, 2009
Thank you for letting us stay at your house. I really enjoyed it. My favorite thing or things I should say, is...THE BOOKS!! I just loved them! It was the best! My favorite book was "Samantha Saves the Day." I loved that book. It was the best vacation ever. Thanks to no one but you!!
Sincerely, M, New Jersey, Summer 2009
We are a family of 7 with 5 kids between the ages of 8 and 13. This house was just perfect for us!!! I can't say enough how much we loved staying here during our winter ski season. We skied Stratton, Bromley and Okemo, they are all just around the corner and very convenient. An added bonus is the hospitality of the owners; they are just great people who are honest and attentive to your needs. I would highly recommend staying at this lovely home.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this house in July '06. We loved the location & the property itself. Kitchen was well-stocked. Our dogs also loved the spot & the special treats from the owners. We hope to stay there again!
