Our family get together was amazing
December 28, 2014
I certainly did not expect the care and TLC from the owners Ted & Jane. They led us through the whole process and the home is amazing from the technology to the Elk. The grandkids sure enjoyed the feeding the animals everyday and they showed up like clock work. there was more than enough to keep them busy for many days of R&R for all of us. A great family get together that I 'm sure we will re-schedule again. Grandpa and Grandma Richardson

We have been visiting the Eagle's Retreat for 3 years now and we absolutely love it. We have stayed in other vacation rentals but the Eagle's Retreat has them all beat, hands down! The Bell's are so friendly and helpful, you will not find more hospitable hosts. Eagle's Retreat has anything and everything you could possibly need or want. The kids love the ping pong and foos ball tables plus the horse shoes and badminton as well. The wrap around deck has a spectacular view no matter where you choose to sit. We have so much fun watching the squirrels and birds as they stop by for a cool drink or a snack. One evening we had the opportunity to watch a family of javelina stop by for drinks and food. The beds are all very comfortable, the kitchen is chock full of dishes, pots, pans, etc. If you need to stay "connected" there is wifi and directv too. The first time we visited Welcome to the Eagles Retreat! was to gather the family for a going away party for our son who was joining the US Army to become a Combat Medic. We are already planning our return visit to Eagle's Retreat next year to celebrate his homecoming. Thanks so much Jane and Ted!
Best house we have rented
May 21, 2014
My wife and I rented this house last weekend. We mostly rent houses around the country for our vacation getaways. This house has every amenity you could hope for and enough activities to keep even the most active family busy. Ted and Jane greeted us upon our arrival and showed us where everything is and how it all works. We brought our ATV with us and spent a great day on the Mogollon Rim exploring some of the infinite trails in the area. We will rent the Eagles Retreat again and are discussing sharing the retreat with close friends next time.

Our family including the children had a wonderful time, so many activities to keep everyone busy. The weather was perfect so the majority of the time we spent outdoors. The owners Jane and Ted Bell were very accommodating and so friendly. We would recommend this home to anyone who loves the outdoors.

We had such a fun time. The house slept 7 of us with ease. The kitchen was stocked with everything you would need. The location is great being close to phoenix and flagstaff within an hour and a half. Our favorite TWO parts were relaxing on the big deck outback and the hosts..they are FANTASTIC. Thank you Carol and Chuck!!! We will be back!

Very Beautiful Home With a Great View We all had a great time. The property owners are very caring & helpful.
Lovely, luxury mountain home, with everything nice
January 4, 2012
This is a beautiful home. Architecturally speeking, it feels inside like a large mountain cabin with huge windows overlooking the forest. Yet the furnishings are those of a luxury home. The house was easy to keep warm in the winter. For family entertainment -- besides the televisions in the rooms -- the Bells have everything else you could want in the way of games, including volleyball, badmiton, ping pong, fooze ball, darts, basketball, table games, and more. There is lots of space to play both indoors and outdoors. There is a large formal dining room for big family dinners or games at the table. Each room is large, including the kitchen which is great for cooking and family gatherings. The family room is especially comfortable with a big fire place, cable TV, and plenty of room for large gatherings. As mentioned before, there are big windows in the rooms, especially the family room, formal dining room, and formal living room, which reminds you that you are in the middle of a lush forest at the base of a pinetree-filled mountain. The multi-acred lot is full of trees and has a great hill for snow tubing/sledding. In fact that was the only place after Christmas in 2012 that still had enough snow on it to go tubing. The Bells provide plenty of inner tubes, and even coats if needed. The large deck wraps around the whole home, and you don't feel like there are any neighbors close by, although there are some down the road. The backyard sits next to the National Forest, and the views from the kitchen, family room, and large patios are phenomenal. The road to the cabin is easily accessible on a paved road that is 1.2 miles off the main highway just before you get into the town of Strawberry. The Bells are the nicest landlords you'll meet. They do everything they can to make your stay comfortable. We've never had a more pleasant, enjoyable stay in all the cabins we've rented than at this lovely mountain home owned by the Bells. With 4,400 liveable square feet there is plenty of room for everyone. The Bells have lived and traveled the world, and their many interesting relics and pictures decorate the walls and shelves in the home. These items are high enough that they don't get in the way of curious grandchildren -- based on the experience we had with our 3 year old grandson who found plenty to keep him busily entertained . If you choose to rent this home, you should love it as much as we do. We'll plan our next cabin rental here.

My wife and I were headed to Tucson for a 50th High Shool Reunion and had arrived in Arizona a few days before the reunion. Knowing that Tucson could still be hot in early October we happened across an internet listing for Eagles Retreat in the mountains in Strawberry. After contacting the owners, it seemed like a good fit. Well, Ted and Jane Bell gave us excellent directions from I-40, and we were able to drive right to the property. What a beautiful setting! Ted met us at the front door and showed us around. The accomodations are very comfortable, and what a great kitchen. The house is located in the pines at about 6,00 ft. adjacent to Tonto National Forest. Birds and squirrels abound. And the elk came right up to the property in the early morning. What an experience! We would highy reccommend a stay at Eagles Retreat. Ted and Jane are very friendly and accomodating. The experience was so much better than a five star resort. Tucson Bound Jack
Everything it says

Loved the home that I rented in Show Low Az. The home was beautiful, clean and a peaceful stay. A pleasant surprise and easy way to find a place for a getaway from the Phoenix heat.

Perfect for a large family gathering
May 15, 2011
Our family had a lovely time at the Eagles Retreat last weekend. Jane and Ted were absolutely wonderful to work with. They welcomed my numerous phone calls asking questions ranging from the location of each bedroom to if we needed to bring our own towels. Even though we arrived later than expected, they waited for us so they could show us how all the amenities worked and make sure we knew where everything was. The house was spacious and beautiful, every room had large picture windows with views for miles in every direction. The yard was huge and had plenty of places for the kids to play in and explore, the neighboring cabins were far enough away that you felt very secluded and had complete privacy. Displayed inside was an assortment of unique and intricate decor, which was evidence of their many travels considering each room had a different theme from various other regions of the world. We took a day trip to Fossil Creek which was spectacular. The water was crystal clear and made for excellent swimming, the older kids were even jumping off the rocks into one of the swimming holes as it was very deep with no obstructions. I highly recommend taking this trip if you have a truck or SUV, but probably not the best idea for a smaller car. All in all we had a wonderful stay and will definitely return to the Eagles Retreat in the future. Thanks again for being such wonderful hosts!

If you are looking for peace and relaxation then the Eagles Retreat is for you. My family and I had a wonderful time. There were nine of us and we had more than enough room. The kids had a great time playing basketball, pingpong and playing boardgames. Betsy Ross Acres was only minutes away if you like horseback riding. We found every pot and cooking utensil we needed. Nine of us would sit in the livingroom with room to spare. We loved the fireplace and had a great time making Easter memories. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay again and recommend it to my friends. The rental process went very smoothly with no glitches or problems. Ted and Jane Bell are outstanding hosts. We plan on coming back when there is snow so the kids can go sledding in the front yard with their snowboards. Thanks to Ted and Jane for sharing their beautiful cabin, we truly appreciated it. Sincerley the Esquer Family
My family of nine decided to spend Easter weekend in Strawberry at the Eagles Retreat. When we arrived we were blown away at how big the cabin was and how peacefull it was. We had more than enough room. The kids enjoyed playing ping pong, basketball and we were able to sit together in the livingroom playing boardgames and darts. The kitchen is equipped with every appliance you can think of. My grandchildren had a blast using the intercom system. If you like horseback riding you are only minutes away from Besty Ross Acres. The rental process went very smoothly with no glitches or surprises, Ted and Jane were always avaliable to answer any questions I had. We plan on coming back in the winter so the kids and go sledding in the front yard. Thank you Ted and Jane for making our Easter a memorable one. Sheree and Family
What an absolutely wonderful get away! The home is very well laid out, comfortable and has every amenity you could ask for. You can easily fit 4 adults and 4 kids with room left over. Three families is no stretch at all, you won't come close to tripping on each other. PLENTY of local attractions if you have even 1/2 an outdoor gene. Hiking, horses, quads, plenty of creeks...
More of a homebody/romantic? Incredible sunsets out of (BOTH) perfectly positioned living/great rooms, fireplaces to keep you warm, comfy beds, 290 degree porch with views on every side, bubbly waterfall you can hear inside (not that I can imagine a better sound than the constant light breeze through the pines), Dish for a curled up movie or music to dance in front of the fire.
Kitchen? Oh yes! Everything in working order and SPOTLESS (as was the entire home!). I can't speak for what a typical stock is, but the fresh fruit was a wonderful touch! Extra fridge for beer/food for larger parties? Yup. BBQ? Yup. Missing a darn thing? Nope.
Plenty of places to eat out if cooking is to daunting after a long day. MamaJoes Italian is maybe 1.5 miles down the road...I can recommend their Pizza without hesitation, best I've had in YEARS! Check their hours...Lesson learned, you might just want to walk their and back, its hard to stop eating when its THAT good!
Jane and Ted were a breeze to work with, called us to make sure we were ok when running late up the mountain, warmed up the home, greeted us with bright lights and brighter smiles, walked us thorough, and left a number to reach them (not that there was a need).
If you are staying in the Payson area (like...+/- 50 miles) Eagles Retreat should be at the top of your list! I know I'll be back...and booking early! the rest of the state is going to find this place!
Our family of five just returned from an incredible week at The Eagle's Retreat. You couldn't wish for more personable hosts than Jane and Ted, and the setting of this spacious, well-equipped house, backed by the national forest, couldn't be better. After waking up to a large herd of elk meandering nonchalantly behind the house one morning, we went on a fantastic horse trek with Rick at Betsy Ross Acres, and the next day we hiked two of the exciting trails at the Natural Bridge Park. When it rained, we played ping-pong, board games, watched TV and used the wifi to catch up with friends and work. Finally, when the snow came, we found ourselves in a true winter wonderland. Thanks to a closet stocked with coats and gloves, and a pile of large inner tubes, we sledded for hours down the slope immediately outside the front door. Thank you, Jane and Ted for everything; you are wonderful!
The Eagles Retreat is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle. Amazing views, stunning sunsets and hiking trails that go on for miles puts this "retreat" at the top of my list. I'm relaxed just thinking about my next visit!
