Reviews for this vacation cottage rental in Swan Lake, Maine

The cottage on Swan Lake/ certainly is in a beautiful setting. The sun on the lake in the morning and night cannot be beat. The lake is lovely, but when we were there it was too cold to take a swim. The canoe and kayak were available for us, right on the dock, but we did not take advantage of it due to the chilly weather. It was quiet, and we saw and heard the loons every day. The directions were spot on, and we had no difficulty following them. The cottage is quaint--an old refrigerator (which works better than some new ones), and the stove was not new but worked very well. (We cooked many of our meals there.) The gas fireplace felt oh so good, and did heat the whole cottage up. The bathroom is small, but adequate, and the shower sure was nice and hot. We had a lovely time, and would highly recommend it to anyone.

We had a amazing time at the cabin. So relaxing and you can't beat the view. We took our 3 kids and a friend's child and we all fit nicely :) Our son loved sleeping on the couch pull out bed and seeing the sun come up each morning over the lake, The kids loved having the lake so close just a few steps away :) They did ALLOT of swimming and canoeing and kayaking. Our two dogs even liked going for rides in the Canoe and Kayak. We went to Rockport to see the Andre the seal statue. I Have always loved that story and it was really neat to be able to share that with the kids. Also went to Acadia, and the Maine State Aquarium which has a awesome touch tank. Belfast Museum in the streets is also something neat to check out. 30 stops in all and some very interesting info about Belfast. We ate at Moody's Diner one day and did some shopping in Camden. The kids loved exploring the tide pools at Moose Point State Park and they liked going to Belfast City Park as well. Another favorite was the lighthouse in Rockland. The kids had fun walking out on the stones to the lighthouse. It was so nice to come back to the cozy cabin and just relax, the kids also enjoyed swimming at night :) The kids are already asking if we can go back there next year :)
Perfect to relax or as a base for day trips

The place was great. I wish I was still there right now. The cottage is just steps to the water where there's a small dock, a kayak, a canoe, and usually a couple ducks or loons waiting for you down there. We split our time between just hanging out at the camp and making day trips to Belfast, Acadia, Orono, and Winterport/Hampden. The cottage looks exactly as it does in the pictures -- the yellow fridge really brings the place together. We hope to return next year and I'm kind of kicking myself for even writing this review in case it makes whatever week we target book up too quickly! A few quick notes that aren't in the description (or I missed them)... 1. The cottage is less than a quarter mile from Swan Lake State Park, which has a little pebble beach, but most importantly has new playground equipment and swings. We have a 2 year old, so that was a key discovery for us. It's $4 per adult to enter via car, but you might even be allowed to kayak over for free. 2. Swan Lake Grocery is about 3 miles away and has just about anything you'll need, even if you're a flatlander from away. 3. There's no washer and dryer at the cottage. This really shouldn't be a problem if you're staying there for a week. 4. There is DirecTV and the package has a ton of channels. No HD and the TV is old, but you're not going there to watch TV anyway, are you? 5. The neighbors (year-round residents) are great.

Our blended family of 5 spent a wonderful week at this adorable shabby-sheik lakeside cottage ...Swimming, canoeing, laughing and watching incredible sunsets! We spent a couple days strolling thru the surrounding towns of Belfast, Camden and Searsport enjoying delicious fare at many restaurants and shopping in eclectic little stores. It was a truly lovely trip! ♡

We spent a wonderful week at Mike and Karin's cottage. The cottage is comfy, charming and the view out the front windows is spectacular. We spent the majority of our time outside; fishing, canoeing and just soaking up the tranquility. Our dog Buddy enjoyed watching the chipmunks and hummingbird that visited every day. Add the eagle flybys and there isn't much need to ever leave but we did manage to do some site seeing . Acadia National Park was beautiful, spectacular views from the top of Cadillac Mountain. We loved Belfast for it's great restaurants and shops. Searsport had some interesting antique shops and the Penobscot Maritime Museum was definitely worth seeing. Deer Isle was a nice day trip with several old fishing villages to explore. Most of all we loved listening to the water lap the shore of Swan Lake and the peaceful solitude the cottage offers. If we ever head back to Maine this is the place we will stay. Thank you Mike and Karin for sharing this little slice of heaven.

First - I just want to thank Mike and Karin for letting us rent your cottage!! It was an amazing place!! The cottage itself was so adoreable and comfortable. Very nicely decorated too! My favourite part was the wall of windows overlooking the lake! It was wonderful to wake up in the morning and see the stillness and beauty of nature. The lake was beautiful and so peaceful. We definitely made use of the canoe everyday!! Our favourite town was Belfast - only 25 mintues from the cottage. It was a beautiful town with lots of little intrest stores to suit everyones fancy! The food there was amazing too! Overall this was a vacation to remember!! Lots of things to see and do! I would highly recommend this place to my own friends and family as well as anyone intrested in an relaxing and peaceful vacation! We will definitely be going back again!
Home away from home

This cottage was wonderful. It had a homey feeling, and the view was beautiful. The first day we stayed we saw a bald eagle fly past the window. Sitting on the dock watching the sunrise was amazing! The parks and hiking trails were only minutes from the house. It is also a very dog friendly area and home which was wonderful for my family and me.
Bliss - great for a small family

Just got back from a week at this property and my family loved it! The cottage is just precious, so carefully and tastefully decorated, from the paintings to the kitchenware! The view was spectacular and we felt like we were living in a tree house - we were there whilst Irene hit US and it was spectacular but we also felt safe! We used and enjoyed the kayak a lot and did a lot of swimming and checked out a few areas close by (Acadia, Blue Hill, Rockpool/Camden etc)..but the town of Belfast that is just down the road is really a lovely town to holiday near, everything you need from a great organic coop supermarket to good places to dine (family friendly) - a very art friendly town - and definitely check out Young's Lobster pound - loved the crab sandwich not so keen on their clam chowder! The space is ideal for a family of 4 -but one word of advice, bring your towels, I had misunderstood that they would be supplied, but luckily Mike and Karin were staying next door and happily provided us with some! Highly recommend this property for the best of what Maine has to offer! I heard Loons - I was very happy!

Revitalizing and relaxing

When you arrive at this cute cozy cottage you can see the beautiful Swan Lake spread out below you. The cabin sits above the water with a commanding view of the entire lake. Not only is there ample fishing, but we were accompanied by a majestic BALD EAGLE on many of our canoe trips. In the mornings it had taken to catching fish and sitting in the tree outside the cabin to eat it. What a thrill! While sitting out on the upper deck with our coffee we were lulled by the Loons haunting calls and watched the fish jump to catch their buggy breakfasts. During the weekends the lake is buzzing with activity. During the week it is a serene, quiet place to recoup for the rat race. We recommend Swan Lake Grocery for any food/bait shopping you need to do. The prices are great and the staff is ultra nice. We will definately be returning to this wonderful spot.
