Area Info
Tarpon Springs is located on Florida's "Nature (West) Coast" about 1 hr north of Tampa. The town has many historic associations, cultural and recreational activities.Americans moved there in the 1800's because of the abundant fresh water and fishing. Greek immigrants came at the turn of the century to dive commercially for sponges. The town is a pleasing mixture of many diverse cultures. The influence of Greek island life is especially strong. You often hear Greek spoken around the dock area. Carefully restored Victorian era homes surround Spring Bayou two blocks from the house. The Pinellas Trail is four blocks away and offers joggers, skaters, bike riders and walkers a protected course stretching for miles. Come fish, golf, or lounge around on the beaches. Our house is especially recommended for couples and families. We know you will leave the area with not just wonderful memories but perhaps having learned a word or two of Greek, seen Bald Eagles or kayaked with Manatees like we did this week.

Other Vacation Rental Amenities
Tarpon Springs is still a working seaport situated upon the banks of the Anclote River.Fishing and crabbing boats follow the current into the Gulf Of Mexico. You can often see one of the brightly painted sponge boats returning to port with long strings of sponges hanging above its deck. Seagulls and pelicans loiter around behind the fish house docks hoping to nab a bit of castaway fish..the locals call it "pelican happy hour"! There are no Starbucks,Gaps or Borders in town..no tour buses or mercedes and no "Miami Vice" mega yachts lingering about. The town hasn't changed much in 50 years. Some of the older Greek-American men still finger "worry beads" while they talk and laugh. Kids can watch sharks being fed at the local Aquarium and even feel the skins of rays and small sharks in the touch tanks. Local restaurants are primarily Greek but Thai,Japanese,Lebanese,Italian and other ethnic cuisines are offered nearby. Ride the trolly around the town to get your bearings while you watch the boats and people pass. Browse the antique emporiums downtown or just head to one of the beaches or state parks. The area abounds with animal life and secluded areas. One of our favorite excursions is aboard the eco-cruise which takes its passengers through quiet mangrove forests and shallows teeming with mullet. Watch Bald Eagles soar above the wide river as pelicans dive for fish and Dolphins "surf the wake" behind the boat. After sunset sit in one of the cafes sipping coffee..munch a honeyed pastry and listen to the lively conversation and laughter mix with the cries of seagulls circling above the village.

Great for families

January 6, 2014

We were very pleasantly surprised by the home as the pictures do not show the openness of the home. Lots of games for all ages, DVDs available. The Master Bedroom suite is fantastic for a family! The owner was is contact before and during the trip with much help. Loved having her show us the house on our arrival. Location is great for walking in Tarpon Springs and the Sponge docks! We would love to rent this house again for our family and granddchildren next time we visit.

Soo Cute, and packed with Fun!

June 13, 2012

The four of us and our 8 year old son stayed from Friday to Sunday and it wasn't long enough! We knew it would be rainy from the weather forcast and packed lots of games for our son. We didn't even need to-there were so many games, DVD/VHS tapes there, not to mention books, it could have rained the entire time and we would have had a blast, all sitting around the pub style table playing board games. The house was very comfortable with lots of special touches and even plenty of paper products and spices to use when we bought seafood from a local market to cook. We walked to the Sponge Docks and to downtown and to the tidal basin, all a quick walk with pretty sites to see. So many gift shops and Greek fare to choose from and Janie our hostess even left a few suggestions (and chocolates)! Really a great place to spend time and we can't wait to visit their other property when it is just my husband, son and me-that looks too cute as well! We love the fact that we can support private owers and really get the "flavor" of the new town to explore without the less personal motel or hotel feel. I would highly suggest that you rent Jim and Janie's place! Thanks for the memories! Kara, Derek and Chase

Lovely house in great neighbourhood

April 14, 2011

The house looks just like it is shown in the photos - only better. Very clean, beautifully decorated with lots of room for two couples to spend time together or apart. Great neighbours - we got to know most of them during our week there. Don't know how we found the time because we were busy going to Caledesi Beach, the Salvatore Dali Gallery, Tarpon Springs shopping and eating district, Boat touring, etc. The museum behind the house is definitely worth the few dollars it cost - the guide is A1. If you like to quilt -join the ladies across the street on Tuesdays - they welcome you with open arms. We enjoyed the 50's and 60's FREE music concert at Howard Park. If you are planning to visit Tarpon Springs this "Cottage" makes a great "home base" PS - look for the lemon, orange, grapefruit and avocado trees in the back yard and the mulberry bushes along the street.

Very Comfortable Home

April 12, 2010

My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay in Tarpon Cottage. It was clean and well set up for hominess and comfort. The small room beside the dining room was a great place to sit and read in the mornings. It was light and sunny and just the right place to read and finish coffee after breakfast. The modern glass enclosed shower was wonderful and the water was always hot when needed. We suggest a minor upgrade on the linens provided. The sheets should be queen size. They would fit the beds better than the ones we found at the house. Washer and dryer were a great convenience and there were plenty of towels. We would have liked to have warmer weather for our stay but as far as the house was concerned, we were very satisfied. Jim Scurti checked on things regularly and we appreciated his concern for our comfort.

This is a true Gem!

June 5, 2008

This cottage is super awsome. We were a group of 4 ladies and wanted to go away for the weekend. The cottage is so nice, homey and clean. Easily within walking distance to activities. The people that own the cottage, Jim and Janie Scurti are very helpful. We spent lots of time on their front porch!
