Description of the Thurmond Lake vacation home rental

WONDERFUL LARGE LAKESIDE HOME

This very large and roomy home has been outfitted for the comfort and convenience of vacationers and sportsmen, alike. As you can see from the pictures, it has a beautiful view and short walk to the cove over easy terrain. (Pictures taken spring 2006)

This home is located in the kind of worry-free, family-oriented neighborhood where you don't have to worry about the security of your vehicles or the safety of your family like you would in a resort area, making for peaceful days and peaceful nights.

It is the perfect spot for hunting and fishing groups with added features, such as an outdoor fish cleaning station and a separate freezer, which is perfect for extra ice, or for storing your fishing and hunting bounty. Note: when lake levels have been severely dropped, the fish are frantic to compete for feeding beds. You may experience some inconvenience no matter where you stay but the fishing will be great!

With two very large family rooms, indoor dining for 14, a fully outfitted kitchen and plenty of seating, your group can visit, play games, watch satellite TV or CDs/Tapes, access the Internet, or enjoy the outdoor spaces.

It is the perfect spot for 'snow-birds' - retirees who want to escape the harsh winters of the northern climates. We have special low monthly rates for November through February!

Mild fall days will make the screened porch a wonderful place for afternoon gatherings - dining for 10 and seating for 12. There is a water-view swing at the forest's edge where you can enjoy the beautiful fall weather and watch the wildlife. Or, sit on the covered balcony for a birds-eye view of the cove and the wildlife, water fowl, song birds, deer, squirrels and rabbits as they come and go with the ease that is born of such a natural environment. We have even seen a wild turkey. Take long walks in the wildlife areas, where terrain is gentle and open and the water is an always fascinating attraction for visitors and wildlife, alike. It is an ideal setting for artists, photographers and bird-watchers.

There is plenty of off-street parking, with covered areas for up to 3 vehicles or a combination of boats and vehicles. Boat & jet ski rentals available locally. Premiere golfing minutes away. Terrific fishing (which peaks in fall and spring)! Public hunting areas nearby. The best antiquing I've seen to date.

For those of you who are not familiar with Clarks Hill / Strom Thurmond Lake, it is a 70,0000 acre lake with approximately 1,200 miles of shoreline.

At full pool, we have about 13 feet of water depth at the end of our private dock. The Army Corps of Engineers are known to raise and lower the lake levels to accommodate seasonal and drought conditions throughout the year. When the lake pool is down and most other rentals are high and dry, we usually still have water. In July 2006, when the lake levels had been dropped 5 feet, we still had over 9 feet at our dock. (Always check with the Army Corps of Engineers for lake conditions if this is a concern.)

Most lakefront homes sit on a steep hill with difficult access or so far back that the view is blocked by the trees. Beware of lakefront rentals with no view and difficult access to the dock... or no dock - always ask! Photos can be deceiving.

I have experienced email addresses that are incorrect (or you have your blocking agent on) and phone messages I cannot return because the phone number is not understandable. I ALWAYS return calls and emails, even if the house is unavailable. If you do not hear from me, it is because your email address or phone message was not usable/understandable. Please speak slowly and clearly. If I do not call, call me back after 6pm.

Other amenities: Central HVAC; Ceiling Fans throughout; Full-sized Washer/Drier; Local Phone, Satellite TV (2), VCR (1) & VCR/DVD combo (1); movies, music, books and games. Plenty of off-street parking. Terrific neighbors in a safe neighborhood!

Owner was extremely helpful and nice. House is well maintained with everything that you will need. The house is very secluded and is not at all convenient to groceries, etc but that is the way that we wanted it. overall, we had a very good experience and would rent from again.
