Disappointed

September 10, 2012

Let me start off by saying, I have stayed at other vacation rentals in Southeast, AZ and know how wonderful some of these places can be. The description from the owners falsely embellishes the actual condition of the property. I was made aware it was a tract home and had no issues with that (some of them are quite lovely). This place is run down and it was not clean. I had to vacuum the floors in the bedrooms and livingroom and found large amounts of cat hair in the carpet (which I am allergic to). The vinyl floor in the livingroom had a weird stickiness to it,. The swamp cooler emits a musty odor, which means it is in long need of cleaning and service. The kitchen cabinets were dirty, Some of the electrical outlets didn't work, and the overall condition of the land surrounding the property was unkept. The neighbors are slobs , so if you enjoy looking at trashpiles, that is the view offered to you around the property. I think the property owners have no right to charge renters a cleanup fee for a property that is offered to them all ready dirty. That is pretty audacious. Also, if you don't like insects inside your home, be aware they are present. No scorpions, but other species are sharing the domicile. If you are just looking for a borderline crashpad, I suppose this location will suffice if your expectations are no more demanding than a nomadic college student.

Very dirty, birds living in back bedroom wall, no TV at all, road to get in is through a wash and then up an embankment would not have entered the property at all if we had not been driving a 4-wheel drive SUV. Will not rent this property again under any circumstances. Not worth the money they are asking

BREAKFAST ON THE PORCH WATCHING THE QUAIL RUN AROUND :)
Left on 08/12/2011 for a stay in May 2011

We stayed here twice while house-hunting in Tucson (we clearly enjoyed it the first time or we wouldn't have come back!). The owners are lovely and put in several special touches to have us feel welcome. The setting is great for watching sunsets, as well as for star-gazing. The house is very close to Catalina State Park, and while it's about 1/2 hour drive north of downtown Tucson, there are plenty of shops and restaurants in nearby Oro Valley. Definitely serene!

GUEST REVIEWS

Nice private property in a very secluded neighborhood. Perfect for those wishing to get away from too much civilization. The owners were accommodating and tried very hard to make my stay pleasant. I highly recommend this place to people who value privacy above 4/5-star amenities.

If you want seclusion and quiet close to town and don't want to spend a ton of money, this place is for you. Simple digs, but very clean and pleasant. The welcoming fruit bowl was a nice touch, and the cooler reminded me how much I like evaporative coolers. John and Kathy were pleasant and accommodating. If Fate decrees that I return to Tucson, I'll definitely stay here again.

Hi, I spent 10 days at Kathy and Johns vacation rental called Casa Tortolita. I found it on Craigs list . When I got there after a long airplane trip I was surprised in a good way to see a fresh fruit bowl and snacks waiting for me on the kitchen table. They left gourmet coffees and herbal teas in the cupboard also which was such a treat. My stay was restful and private. I took daily walks in the desert and saw tons of wildlife. I heard coyotes howling at night a couple of nights and had the chance to roast some marshmellows with a bonfire. Overall a great experience, nothing fancy just comfortable and everything that I needed was there. Thanks Kathy and John I will be back!
