Description of the Tybee Island vacation cottage rental

Missy's on the Marsh is a classic 1950s cottage completely restored in 2007 and filled with bright, cheerful beach colors and local artwork. Screened porch with four rocking chairs, perfect for watching the setting sun. The big back deck on the edge of the marsh has a picnic table, grill and lots of comfortable seating to take in the restful views of the Horsepen Creek marsh. Shaded by enormous live oaks and ancient pines to beat the summer heat. We're pet friendly with a fenced front yard. Easy walk or bike ride to the public 6th Street beach.

This delightful cottage has three bedrooms and two full baths, a bright living room with lots of seating, a kids play area with games, puzzles, books and videos; a fully equipped family kitchen and laundry room with washer/dryer. You'll have cable TV/DVD/VCR and a high-speed internet connection and WiFi. Air conditioned with ceiling fans in every room, including the front screened porch. White ceramic tile floors and gauzy linen drapes complete the coastal look. Throw open the windows and let the summer breezes waft through the cottage. All the comforts of home, and you're at the beach!

Area Description

A wonderful girls' getaway weekend or family summer vacation! Only one tank of gas from Atlanta. Tybee Island, a low-key seaside resort located 18 miles east of Savannah, has a wide, 3-mile long beach that's backed by sea oat-covered sand dunes and is perfect for sunbathing, shelling, people-watching and frolicking in the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The island's south-end pier and pavilion is a splendid venue for strolling above the ocean, sipping a cool drink and listening to the music of the live bands.

Visitors are lured to Tybee for its recreation and relaxation, but there's also plenty of family activities. Tybee offers Fort Screven, The Tybee Island Lighthouse (dated 1773) and museum, Fort Pulaski with guided tours and daily cannon firing, and the Marine Science Center, with info on all the local wildlife. For the energetic, there's kayaking in the marshes and rivers and bike riding along the beach and the new bike path out to Fort Pulaski. Charter boats will take you deep sea fishing or dolphin watching.

Tybee is a beach resort complete with a full range of restaurants, bars, art galleries and beach shops. Yet, it's an atmosphere considerably more laid-back than that of glitzier, larger beach towns to the north and south.

Missy's on the Marsh is a great little house to stay in while on Tybee. For the same price as a local hotel room, you get 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, and laundry room. Not to mention the great neighbor next door (Thanks for everything Sharon). This is the second rental from Mermaid Rentals for us and we will come back for sure.
