Description of the Utuado vacation cottage rental
A dollhouse, for two, romantically nestled in a grove of avocado, papaya and lime trees, to relax in. On the property of Riverwalk, a small Columbian Paso Fino horse ranch, where we hope to offer you a different kind of experience. In a tropical rain forest, surrounded by birds and located on the river with a nearby waterfall, in the comfortable atmosphere of our little guest house.
The cottage has been a stable since the original 5000 acre plantation was begun. Then a stable for Paso Fino horses and remodeled into a guest house. It has a thick and comfortable queen size bamboo futon, a kitchenette, linens but the attraction is the location and the sounds of nature. The nights are refreshingly cool. The kitchenette is stainless steel and has all appliances, with a portable griddle cooking surface for indoors or out, also an outdoor BBQ grill, all appliances and microwave. We share our garden flowers and our fruits in season - oranges, banana, avocado, papaya, mango. The pantry is stocked with tea, coffee, locally grown Arabica, and condiments.
The bathroom is marble, tile and wood, and is pretty well stocked with amenities including towels, soaps, shampoos, etc.
Swing in a hammock by the river and be soothed by tropical fresh breezes, (most of our guests are surprised absolutely about the lack of pests, mosquitoes and such), also explore inner-island adventures of the Cordillera Central mountains, such as rapelling, ziplining, hiking and the Camuy Cave system, Indian Ceremonial Park, and of course the Arecibo Observatory. The old towns of Utuado and Jayuya are minutes away.
The Cordillera Central rises over 4.000 feet along the length of the island, and shelters three Commonwealth rain forest reserves - Carite, Toro Negro and Guilarte. Carite showcases a rain forest similar to that of El Yunque. Toro Negro takes in the island's highest peaks, a spring-fed pool, a trail to a spectacular lookout, and a couple of man-made reservoirs resembling primeval lakes. For ruggesd remote beauty, visit Guilarte.
On the property there are short trails to the local swimming hole which is wonderful for just sitting and catching the sun, any time of day, surrounded by giant boulders and rock walls, with, our guests are extremely surprised to learn, few if any pests. The cottage is situated steps from a very scenic river, surrounded by a grove of tropical fruit trees.
There are several local eateries that are inexpensive, but also a hotel across the street. Across the street is a hotel/yoga center with a restaurant and cafe, that serves dinner Al fresco on the patio, with superb mountain views.
But there are several local places for rice and beans.
We are most centrally located to the inner island attractions, including The Camuey Cave System, one of the largest river cave systems in the world was formed by the Camuey river, and the Rio Camuey Cave Park beautifully showcases several sinkholes, caves and the underground river. Nearby, the Arecibo Observatory run by Stanford University is set in a large sinkhole, and offers superb views of surrounding karst hills from its visitors' deck. also nearby, the Caguana Indian Ceremonial Park was built by Taino Indians more than 800 years ago. Ball courts are bordered by rows of stone monoliths decorated with petroglyph etchings, the oldest archaeological site in the Caribbean, a rather amazing place to visit. Also in Utuado Roberto's adventure tours, Batey Zipline Adventures will take you rappelling, zip lining or caving. The karst topography of the northwestern hills has produced one of the largest river cave systems in the hemisphere, the Rio Camuy. Cavers rappel down cliffs or scale boulders, and try to comprehend the immense size of theIn places where cave ceilings have collapsed over the eons, narrow canyons frame the rivers, and adventurers float along them in life jackets or inflatable boats. This relatively new sport is known as "canyoning." To the south is the Guanica Dry Forest, with native specimens of birds, flora and breathtaking views of both oceans. Cueva Ventana (Window Cave) Utuado, is a short hike off the main highway into Utuado, Route 10, on public lands and is truly one of the more spectacular and breathtaking views of rolling countryside, river and the karst hills. This amazing view is often seen on the cover of both magazines such as Sports and Travel, Travel and Leisure and Puerto Rico's Official Visitors guide, Bienvenidos - a copy can be picked up free at the airport at the Hotel & Tourism Association kiosk.
