Welcome to Shavehead Lake. Here is where you'll find your home away from home in our cozy, two-bedroom cottage in southern Michigan.

The Diener Cottage is newly-renovated and with the 17 windows that surround the cottage you're guaranteed an abundance of waterfront views and ample sunlight.

The open floor plan of the cottage allows the conversation to easily flow from the fully-equipped kitchen to the living and dining areas. French doors open wide into the spacious three-season room situated along the lakeside with ping-pong table, upright piano and a big comfy chair where you can finally catch up on that good book you've been meaning to read.

Outdoors you can sit back and watch the sunset while you roast a marshmallow or two over the fire pit located just a few feet from the water's edge. By day, you might enjoy some waterskiing or tubing in your own boat, dock provided, or perhaps, you'll just sit out under the tall willow tree and watch the swans swim by.

Shavehead Lake is the perfect location for your getaway as it's nestled in the woods that surround a 250 acre all-watercraft lake. And for those who require more than just peace and quiet, the lake is only a short drive to a myriad of attractions sure to satisfy every member of the family.

Vandalia is located in southwestern Michigan. Conveniently close to many attractions including the new American Countryside Farmer's Market, Shipshewana, Indiana and Notre Dame. Big city life is also close as Chicago and Detroit are only 2.5 hours away. But if you're idea of vacationing has more greens and blues to it, there are several state parks nearby. It's the perfect spot for those looking for a getaway that's not too far away.

New for 2010, the Diener Cottage now has a deck next to the lakeside sandy beach. There is also a large patio adjacent to the three-season room. We have a paddleboat for guest use, and you are welcome to bring other water toys that you can tie up to the dock and use while you're here. The Diener Cottage is secluded enough to make it feel like you've gotten away from it all, but close enough (within a 20 minute drive) to access a variety of restaurants and shopping options.

This cottage was wonderful! Very clean, comfortable & very nicely decorated. Lots of little extra's. The Diener's made every effort to make us feel welcome. We would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to get away from it all, but still have all the conveniences & comforts of home. It's right on the lake with a beautiful view. We will be back!

Staying here was wonderful from every aspect. The interior was immaculate and cozy, and everything was newly renovated. The bedding was smooth and comfortable, and we were impressed with all of the amenities. While the adults appreciated the accomodations, there was plenty to do for all ages. Our five year old stepped outside the first morning and announced "it couldn't get any better than this!" Our kids loved the sandy beach, the huge yard, and the fire pit. We all enjoyed the views of the lake from the one side of the cottage, and the view of the channel from the other. We had a wonderful, relaxing time!

We had a wonderful time. We stayed last year and can't wait to go again this year. The cottage is newly renovated and very clean. The kitchen is equipped with all your utensils and it even has a washer and dryer. Plus it is air conditioned. The Dieners were great and honestly try to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. We highly recommend this cottage!
