Exterior Description
This old stable built of Dolomite stones is located in the old historical section of the village, Casan (population 250). The village is situated on the mountain Dolada which is over 2000 m high; the village is at an elevation of 500. The Dolada mountain is known to paragliders. The Lake of Santa Croce (no motor boats allowed) is 3 km away. This quiet mountain village offers the tranquility and beauty of nature. It is a good location for day trips, outdoor activities (skiing in winter and hiking and biking in summer), or just taking life easy in the mountain air. This is a perfect spot to take in the beauty of the high Dolomite mountains of Monte Cristallo, Tre Cime, Civetta, Pelmo and Marmolata. The largest city nearby is Belluno (8km), a beautiful Medieval city, which is the summer residence of the Venetians. The house is 80 km north of Venice and 60 km south of Cortina dAmpezzo, a ski resort with international reputation. The Prosecco and Cartizze wine regions of Valdobbiadene (50 km) as well as the Passito DOC wine from Refrontolo offer culinary and wine tasting experiences. A visit to Palladian villas is about a one-hour drive from the house.
