Description of the Ventura vacation apartment rental

Casa Makai is a dramatic beach house property with a private guest apartment located in the charming beach enclave of La Conchita on Rincon Bay. This little beach village has its own special micro-climate and promotes the growth of lush tropical foliage everywhere. Beach access through a new underpass ( under Highway 101) is conveniently located at the foot of our street, just down the block.

The private guest apartment at Casa Makai is a reflection of the rest of the house owned by two working artists. Works of art are everywhere. The large front living room/ kitchenette features a library filled with interesting reading material, a large flat screen TV, and a futon that could be used as a third bed. The kitchenette has all the necessary appliances, utensils, and dishes for a short vacation stay: small fridge, toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker, portable cook-top.The bedroom has a queen size bed and small flat screen. It is next to the private bathroom with shower. The separate apartment entry faces a garden pond. To the side of the apartment is a private meditation garden with a fountain. It's a nice place to have morning coffee. Guests also have access to the second floor lanai with a terrific ocean view. The apartment rents to adults only, no children due to liability issues with the pond in front of the apartment. No pets, we often rent to guests with severe allergies.

Summer is here! We have a beautiful accessible beach just less than a half a block from our house. With this in mind, we are running a summer special on our rates. The best for the most in our area from 6/1 thru 8/31. See below for details.

Other Vacation Rental Amenities

The harbor seal sanctuary and surfing at Rincon Point, both just minutes away from our location, attract visitors from all over the world. Ojai, home of the Krishtamurti Society is famous for it's many spiritual, meditation and philosophical organizations that sponsor seminars, encounters and lectures that attract many visitors. Ojai is also well known for it's spas. It was also the home of famed ceramist Beatrice Woods and now the Beatrice Woods Center for the Arts. If beaches are what the guests are interested in Casa Makai is the place. At every exit on 101 immediately north and south of La Conchita there are beaches. Each one with its own character. None of them over crowded. All of them beautiful. The best part about our place is that it is so centrally located and yet so private and intimate. One important note is that this property is an adults only facility. Due to all of the large works of art in the apartment it is not child proof. Our insurance mandates that we not risk the liability. It is also a no pet facility, much as we love animals, we have had a fair number of guests with severe allergies.

Staying with Bonnie and Bill (B&B!) was a wonderful experience. I picked it because it was half-way between Santa Barbara and Ventura which made it easy to explore both areas. We were given a lot of useful info on where to go and how best to get around by the hosts. The place was amazing - lots of art and books which meant always something to browse through and admire. We were even given fresh squeezed orange juice from the tree in the mediation garden (what a way to start the day!). This was a fantastic mini-vacation for us and I really appreciate the care Bonnie and Bill put into their hosting. Thanks again!

It was such a pleasure to say with Bonnie and Bill, view their beautiful home and garden, and learn about the rich history of La Conchita. The stay was very short but the guest apartment was lovely and filled with fascinating treasures! I looked forward to returning! Bonnie and Bill were incredibly gracious hosts and, like so many of the other reviews, I felt spoiled by their hospitality. Wether you stay for a night or a week, they'll make sure you know how to find the best beach views, restaurants, or federally protected seal overlook! A great stay with so much history, nature, and learning. Absolutely loved it.

Debbie
Our stay was a wonderful experience. Bonnie and Bill shared a wealth of knowledge about La Conchita, the way to get to secret beaches, places to eat, and the local history. We had scrumptious waffles with strawberries and whip cream for breakfast. We saw the turtle in the pond. We watched the NFC and AFC football championship games on an amazing HD widescreen TV. Loved our visit and the conversations with our hosts. You will not be disappointed. Like one other reviewer said, they spoil you.

They are extremely gracious and helpful hosts, providing the perfect amount of interaction and privacy. The first morning was wonderful - delicious waffles, great conversations, lots of suggestions on things to do and see. The home is beautiful and comfortable. The week went way too fast and I'm looking forward to returning next year :)

Bonnie's guest home is filled with books and interesting pieces of art. The place is spacious and very clean. My husband and I stayed there for 3 nights while in Ventura for business. While we didn't get spend to spend a lot of time there it was a tranquil place to come home to at night. They left us fresh squeezed OJ from their tree, what a treat! Each morning I saw multiple hummingbirds in the garden. It was very quiet at night and we slept great. They have DirectTV so my husband was... More »

As everyone has already said, staying with Bonnie and Bill was absolutely amazing. We were welcomed so warmly. On the first morning we were cooked Bill's legendary banana waffles with fresh Californian strawberries and freshly squeezed orange juice, which were incredible! The apartment was beautifully decorated including Bill's sculptures and Bonnie's ubiquitous books and art pieces. We had a wonderful time visiting the beaches and restaurants of La Conchita and Carpinteria, and would visit... More »

What an absolute pleasure it was to meet both Bonnie and Bill and to stay at their wonderful home in La Conchita (right next to Santa Barbara). It was exactly what I was looking for and I couldn't have been happier. Bonnie and Bill could easily have their picture next to a dictionary entry of "good people". Both of them are very warm and thoughtful and shared their knowledge of this charming and uniquely beautiful area (Bonnie literally helped right a book on it and has an enormous amount... More »

A belated review! We stayed here on our way down to LA over the summer, Our lil guy slept better than he does now (and we did too.) It was so peaceful and tranquil. It will be an even better stay when there is a walking path to the beach (under construction), we will most definitely come back and stay again. We drove over to little rincon beach and walked along the shore...I love it down there. Oh and of course all the nice treats that were there when we arrived was most excellent after... More »

To say we enjoyed staying at Bonnie and Billâs apartment would be an understatement. The apartment was beautifully appointed with amazing sculptures, paintings, and books. The location was wonderful - walk to the beach, short drives to Santa Barbara, Ventura, and the mountains. We loved Bonnieâs decorating style and appreciated how much we felt welcomed and at home. Response from Bonnie: We were blessed to have you stay with us! A computer angel must have sent Ric our way! Helen's enthusiasm about Bonnie's jewelry was a real boost to her during a particularly difficult blip in her business. We look forward to seeing you again. There is a lot more of the Gold Coast of California to see!

Your imagination will come alive at Bonnie & Bills home- while listed as a guest apartment in a private home its really closer to staying in a private art museum. The walls and shelves of the home are dotted with art & artifacts leaving no choice but to strike up conversation about the pieces- their story. Bonnie & Bill both have such great spirits- wonderfuly positive, enthusiastic to host and Bill makes a delicious breakfast- bonus! If you are lucky you will see the resident turtle- Freida... More »

We had an amazing experience and they were both so welcoming that we immediately felt at home. The small community of La Conchita is very down to earth, friendly, and close to Carpinteria, Santa Barbara, Ojai, and Ventura and the beach is just a short walk down the street for amazing sunsets. This was our first time to try airbnb. Bonnie and Bill's one-bedroom apartment full of works of art and books was a great find. It was very clean and welcoming with a good sized living room with large flat screen tv next to a kitchen area stocked with things to eat and drink. The hosts are both artists, and very kind and fun to get to know. Bill makes the best blueberry scones and frittata we've come across. They both provided recommendations of good local eats and coffee shops. Bonnie... More »

Bonnie and Bill were great hosts as we were making our way down the PCH. The downstairs living area is large and completely separate to the rest of the house and features everything that you could possibly need. Even if you need anything else I'm sure that Bonnie and Bill will be able to find it for you! Bill's breakfast in the morning was a delicious treat also. I would highly recommend this apartment.
