Welcome to BIG STUMP COTTAGE and how it got its name!
Oregon Coast Today's article explained the stump as a monument to Whispering Wind and Cougar Eye--Indian lovers dragged under by the surging ocean and deposited next to the monster redwood, his hand clutching her long black hair. The stump still stands today for you to enjoy. This part of the Oregon coast had large redwoods in the 1700's which were wiped out due to earthquakes as the story is told. So as you walk south of the cottage you will see it plain as day. This stump can be as tall as 14 feet or as you see it today depending on the time of year.
For a romantic getaway or to just come and enjoy the miles of quiet sandy beach, this cottage has two bedrooms plus a queen hide-a-bed and one bath. With an open floor plan you are able to enjoy conversation while you prepare your meals or sit at the dining room table and watch beautiful waves roll in on the sandy beach--be sure to look for whales as they have been seen from this location. On stormy nights you can watch TV while you enjoy a warm fire to keep the chill off. Enjoy the Oregon coast wildlife including your own wild bunny rabbit that lives in the yard that you can watch till your hearts content!

Great little home

We had a lovely stay in this home. If you are looking for something reasonably priced with amazing views and beach access this is the place. Close to all of the places we wanted to visit on this trip and the beach is perfect for long walks and gathering sea shells. We would definately stay here again.

Fun at the Beach

We had a great time at Big Stump Cottage Waldport, Oregon! This was a very quiet and CLOSE to the beach place for us to stay. Being close to the beach was fantastic!. Not a fancy place but clean and comfortable with everything you would need pretty much. We enjoyed the sound of the ocean waves when opening the windows. The price and location was another thing that helped us decide to rent Big Stump. There were a few ants on the kitchen counter at times but we kept food in frig or in cupboards. Great to be able to cook and wash dishes and wash laundry if needed. The beds were much more comfortable than any hotel or motel we have ever stayed in. It was great to have extra locks on doors which made us feel safer at night. WIFI was great to have but the TV selection was not very good. We did go for the beach experience not TV. The people we emailed or talked to for renting were all very nice and helpful. When at the cottage we sat around the dining room table most of the time and watched the ocean and sunsets. We had fun playing down at the beach many days and jogging, napping, taking walks or flying kites. Thank you for the opportunity to rent a cottage close to the beach for our family vacation at a fairly reasonable price. We do plan on coming back soon!

Great Time at the Beach.

we enjoyed our stay from the minute we walked into the house, it felt like we were coming home. view from all the windows facing ocean are picture perfect.the walk to the beach is like going thru your own secret passage way to another world. I loved it! the washer/dryer were a godsend, since we packed light for 10 days. enjoyed to dishwasher to no end, as I do not have one at home - it was a treat!. beds very comfortable. Only negative I would say about the whole stay is that the oven/stove is a little wonky,could not get the temp right, one night I actually caught the pizza on fire/ flames and all,no damage other than pizza, thank god! I have to say the staff were wonderful from the first call for information to the last call when I forgot a movie in the DVD player. They found DVD and returned it for me-I didn't know people were still that thoughtful and kind. IT really restores my faith in human kind after working with this group of folks. the town of Waldport is just as great. everyone seems so friendly and nice to be around. I would happily return in a minute to this wonderful little home on the beach. BIG STUMP COTTAGE will forever be one of my most favorite memories. Even my 15 yr old daughter enjoyed herself..that's saying something for a teenager! flying kites and jumping waves while searching for sea treasures kept us both happy and entertained! I hope to return again soon. Do not want to wait another 5 yrs before returning to the great pacific ocean beaches. smiles all around..Kathleen H

Simple cottage--- GREAT view and beach

This is a simple little cottage, but the ocean view and access are FANTASTIC. As a native ORegonian, I have been to nearly every beach in the state, but never to this beach just South of Waldport. It is one of the widest, and flatest in the state, and not crowded ! It was also a perfect dog beach ! I'll be back again. A small deck and BBQ would make this place a 4 star !

Spectacular Sunsets and Sugar Sand

Big Stump cottage was everything advertised and the scenery even better! A picture window to some of the most interesting sunsets I ever seen. One night it looked like the ocean was on fire! The cottage is clean, equipped with essentials, though some a bit shopworn. The TV remote was missing, but a call to the office got prompt service. The beaches are wide and beautiful soft sand. The location was an easy drive to shops and cafes in either direction. The week was over far too soon.

The pictures online for Big Stump Cottage do not describe how awesome it is. The amazing view from the windows looking out took our breath away. Comfy cozy bedrooms allowed for a great night sleep. Very clean, comfortable, and cozy Cottage with a fantastic wood burning fireplace for peaceful warm evenings. The sound of the ocean is throughout the house. It takes about 20 seconds to walk down the private stairs to a wide wide open sandy beach, we felt as if it was all of ours to enjoy. We will always stay, (when we come this way to see my Dad from California) At Big Stump Cottage always!

We had a wonderful time at Stump cottage. The house was lovely, close to beach and lots of crab and oysters were consumed!! We recomend this place to all. Hope to repeat it next year.

We loved staying here. The house was fantastic and perfect for our little family. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was no-one called to inform me the washer was broken. So I packed thinking I could wash clothes and with kids that became a pain. Besides that it was amazing. We are still talking about our trip and how fun and peaceful it was. The beach was amazing and it was so nice just hearing the ocean in ever room of the house. We can't wait to come back another year.. The house has such a cute personality and is just perfect. I can see why people have fallen in love with this place. I know we did.

My husband and I were looking for a peaceful retreat. We found it! The view was wonderful and right on the beach. It rained the entire time we were there but it was nice storm watching from the fabulous window. My only regret is that we stayed only 2 nights. Hopefully we will be able to stay in the summer. We very much enjoyed our stay in this cozy little place. Appreciate allowing wood burning fires and our dogs, who had at least as much fun as we did their first time at the ocean! Very tight quarters in the bedrooms (pack light-how much do you really need?). On cleanup-washer/dryer don't allow for very large loads, so plan enough time to do a couple. One little maintenance issue-seemed that the hot water while showering cooled off quickly-maybe need elements changed? Bring your own tunes; one radio/cassette tape player provided.

We really enjoyed the stay at the 10-10 house. The house was ready when we arrived and cleaned. The location was excelent for our needs and the whole family was very pleased and would do it again. A couple of suggestions,we were very confussed about the laundry requirements(sheets,towels). The refridgerator took some time to cool down as well, maybe we had to much warm stuff. Wanda and Jodee were very helpful and answered all of our questions and we were treated with great respect and promptness when we did have a question. My family said they would stay there again if the opportunity would arrise. Thank You Rick and Family

We had a great get away with our family and friends at the "10-10" beach house! The location to the beach was great! We were able to cook some great meals, play games, and relax together! The house is set up very well for a enjoyable stay. A few different frying pans, and cooking utensils could be added to the kitchen for those that want to cook instead of go out to eat. Other than that there is nothing we would change!
