Charming peaceful secluded quiet lakeside cottage
|Per night||$100 - $150|
on a small lake in North Waterford Maine. A dock allows one to sunbathe and a canoe lets you explore the lake. It is a picture postcard spot less than two miles from Melby's general store, famous for its generous ice cream cones and wonderful home cookin'. Mountain trails are within walking distance. If you like golf you are withing 25 minutes of three nice courses. It is a very special place. I know you will love it if a peaceful vacation is what you are in search of.
There's a phone for local calls out and any calls in. Also internet access.
Southwestern Maine has a lot to offer the vacationer. Stay at our cottage and go back in time... not much traffic and whenever you go up there's a view...or don't go anywhere and enjoy a gorgeous view right from the porch.

The cottage was rustic but comfortable. The setting is beautiful. It was surprisingly spacious. We managed to be there in a heat wave with no A/C, but fortunately Betsy showed us how to use a room A/C and a fan to cool different areas. We live in Charleston SC and were looking forward to cool Maine! We enjoyed the deck, dock, Jacuzzi tub, canoe and the owners many books. We really appreciated having paper supplies and soaps already stocked. I enjoyed playing the piano. There is no signal for phones, no cable or wifi and no TV. In fact , I couldn't use my smart phone at all in the area and both our phones lost the charge rapidly. I had intended to research restaurants etc on my phone , so we were groping a bit. The cottage is remote which is nice but about 30mins from groceries, activities and restaurants except for Melby's General Store which had great cinnamon rolls but other food not so good. The local people are very friendly and we had fun at the weekly church supper. Overall a nice experience
Hot days...cooler nights.
There is internet access which provides wifi on a smart phone. Some phones actually work in the cottage. I provide local/emergency phone service. You can receive calls from anyone but you can only make local calls. The tv has dvd/cd/vcr hook up and Melbys rents dvd's. The radio works. Melby's was given a great write up in Yankee Magazine. They sell garden vegies.

My wife and I spent a quiet and slow paced week at the cottage. We both had a good book to read and tried to put a 1000 piece puzzle together. Notice I said tried! 90% finished. The weather was very good and the water was warm. We did not even put on the tv. The food is great at Melby's. The stories of the portions at Melby's are true. If you want to get away from "it all" this is the place. Just do not take the last week in July. That is ours! We also brought along our dog, Casey (springer spaniel) He had a better time than we did . All he wanted to do was chase frogs and jump off the dock to catch the fish. My only dissapointment was that I did not catch anything more than a perch. Although, there is a stuffed cloth fish hanging on the porch. We took a picture of me with the stuff fish and sent it to family at home. They tink I caught a whopper!! The owner is vey accomadating.

A wonderful spot for a true relaxing vacation. The property is accurately described & well appointed. Definitely a spot that encourages peace & quiet. Large house, plenty of outdoor space, & well equipped. The dock is located in front of the adjacent property that the owner also owns. Kitchen is very well equipped & there are plenty of linens & towels provided. The gas grill is a bit small, but certainly accomodated our needs. One drawback is that there is not much of a "beach" area, but the offshore float is within easy swimming distance. The owner was quick to respond to any questions or concerns throughout the entire process & a pleasure to work with. Access to the property is very good, directions were clear, accurate, & concise. The sights & sounds of a very private pond were second to none. We would highly recommend this property to anyone who is looking to escape the fast pace of daily life.

Our family rented this lovely house for 8 days at the end of August (not long enough!). The house was fully equipped with everything a family could want - diswasher, washer and drier, kitchen utensils, etc. The caretaker left us an unexpected welcome bag with goodies and games for the children. The location can't be better - right on the lake with a canoe in the garage(there are screens on the porch so the mosquitoes don't eat you up). The kids really enjoyed canoeing on the lake and were even able to see some loons up close. The house was also a well-located for day trips to various nearby sites - Bethel, the White Mountains, Mt. Washington, the Maine Woildlife Reserve, Portland, etc. We were only sorry that we couldn't stay longer.

We spent a wonderful week at the cottage with our 3 teenagers. We all enjoyed the time on the lake & just staying at the cottage. The outdoor shower was a hit (although we could have used the whirlpool tub or shower). Although somewhat rustic, it had everything we needed. We were close enough to do sightseeing or large grocery shopping, but also enjoyed the nearby general store. Very hospitable community. The lake had great fishing, & we used an innertube & canoe to explore the wildlife on the lake. The owner & caretaker were both a delight to deal with.
