Quiet Location but not too far removed from town
January 5, 2015
The Pros: The cottage is spacious for a small family & located in a peaceful/quiet area but not more than a 15 minute drive from town for necessities. We could tell the owner takes care of all the furniture, the beds & couches were comfy, the jacuzzi bathroom was relaxing, the solid wooden table & benches were more than enough for a small family. The bonuses are the little extra things the owner/property left for the guests, such as tin foil for cooking, storage containers for any cooked leftovers, plenty of wood stacked inside & outside the house for a cozy fire (along with detailed instructions on how to use the wooden stove fireplace), extra pillows/blankets/towels, books, games, telephone (especially since our cellphones had no service), satellite wifi, extra soap for all the bathrooms & for the washing machine, Beer & Champagne for toasting New Years & Hot Cocoa for our son (& a nice big candy bar), etc. Now for the Cons: We arrived at night time & when I ran a bath for our son it looked brownish, I said it is late we will deal with it tomorrow. The flat wooden cabinet cover above the sink doors fell off while rinsing a cup & hit my bare foot; not a good way to start a vacation. The next morning we called the property manager & the owner called later in the day stating that a pipe was broken while insulating under the house the prior week. The plumbers made sure clear water was running from the sinks, but no one checked the bathtubs. The owner flushed the lines, drained & cleaned all the dirt/minerals from the hot water heater & changed the filter. After filling the bathtub about 4 times the water was now clear. He apologized for the inconvenience. The property manager called the next day to make sure water was still clear & to tell us that the owner was having a "well expert" there the next day. The cabinet was not fixed while we were there for the week. If the following is fixed this place would be fabulous: screen door has massive rips on edges, small cob webs on front & back porch, grill is perfect on the outside but grates have extensive rust, fix broken cabinets, put in a range w/o stains on it, cable instead of satellite wifi (if possible), open house windows 24-48 hrs before guests arrive so it isn't musty, adjust master bedroom shower frame for taller people (hubby is 6ft & kept on hitting his head getting out of the shower since shower floor is raised above bathroom floor, & add draft guards to bottom of the front & back doors.
