My husband and I and our dogs Molly & Bear had a great time at Whispering Winds. Each day we spent exploring this gorgeous area and each night we returned to the cabin where we felt relaxed and comfortable. The first drive up the road was a challenge and we were glad it was during daylight as Jeff recommends, but after that it was easy. We had everything we needed to make meals that were simple and delicious. We used the grill several times. The bed was super comfortable and waking up to the view and the birdsong each morning was wonderful. The electronics/WiFi all worked well except we never could quite figure out the XM Radio which wasn't a problem at all, we didn't need it. The rooms were spacious and it was so handy to have access to a washer/dryer since we try to travel light so we can leave space in our vehicle for the dogs. There is plenty of access to nearby shopping for essentials, but we loved the feeling of privacy at the cabin. While there, we drove the Blue Ridge Parkway from Asheville to Maggie Valley, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park from Cherokee to Gaitlinburg, TN and on to Pigeon Forge, TN, then back to the cabin via 321 & 40, we visited Waynesville, including window shopping (and a little real shopping) in the historic downtown, the local public library, Blue Ridge Books, and the Frogs Level Brewing Co., we had take out from Fat Buddies BBQ (pretty good- not awesome), we went up to Maggie Valley and drove up to the Cataloochee Ski Area just because we wanted to see a NC ski area, and the day before we left we toured the Biltmore Estate, gardens and winery in Asheville. All in all we had a great time. We'd definitely go back to Whispering Winds if we return to this area. It was great to be far away from home and yet feel so relaxed and comfortable. The week we were there, the weather forecasts were not great, but we only had rain one time overnight. It got chilly on the last night we were there so we turned the heat on for the first time in our stay and it warmed up in no time. We didn't use the fireplace at all because we thought it would be too warm for us. A great choice for anyone who wants to experience a mountain cabin, likes a comfortable and relaxed vacation with access to nature and wildlife. We saw three black bears -one on the Blue Ridge Parkway and 2 at Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We saw all kinds of birds and flowers and blossoming trees. Thank you Jeff! It was better than we had even hoped.
It sounds like you found time to enjoy a lot of the many things there are to see in the area. There is no way to see all the area has to offer in a week or even a month. I still have not been to see the Biltmore Estate, I've heard it is a must see.
Also, Thank You for your comments about Whispering Winds.... that's always nice to hear
I look forward to having you stay again. As a repeat guest (whenever possible), I like to give a special deal.
Very Truly Yours,

A cabin in heaven
January 7, 2014
This cabin was a wonderful place to stay during the Christmas holidays. The owner Jeff made sure that I had everything needed for a great vacation. The views are breath taking and the cabin was excellent. Christmas Eve I woke up to a ground covering of snow. The week started off warm and rainy, then it turned cold. The fireplace was so nice once the sun went down. If you are looking for a great place to stay that is close to everything, but away from all neighbors then this is the place for you. This house could sleep 6 and still have room. You must arrive during daylight hours to make it up the long driveway to the house. I will be returning for another stay.

Wonderful Mountain Getaway
December 1, 2013
We had a wonderful vacation at Whispering Winds. Our original vacation reservations, at another Waynesville retreat, were canceled but Jeff was able to secure our reservation quickly and with only two weeks notice! The house was easy to find and the mountain road was easy enough to traverse once we got the hang of it. The house itself was very cozy and well stocked, we really felt comfortably and at home. Our Catahoula, Merle, loved running through the leaves and laying in front of the fireplace. The double doors to the bedroom really give the whole house an open, airy feel. The bed was super comfortable, while the view is great from every room. We work in the vacation rental industry in N. Myrtle Beach, SC and I can honestly say that we were very impressed with the quality of this home and Jeff's prompt, sincere service. We hope to return to Whispering Winds in Waynesville again, and make this an annual getaway!

My boyfriend and I rented this cabin for our anniversary at the end of October. The drive up to the cabin was adventurous. We had to drive up at night and it was raining and we got stuck (The drive in the daylight the next morning was not bad at all! I am just a nervous night-driver). However, once we got to the cabin, everything was perfect. It really is a beautiful property. They had everything we needed...firewood, pots, pans, cutlery, dishes, linens, etc. Pets are allowed, but you would never know. There is no evidence of pets ever having been inside other than a food and water dish. The view in the morning was amazing! The morning after we arrived, my boyfriend must have been extra inspired, because he proposed outside on the big wrap-around porch1 We can't wait to go back to the cabin and revisit a place that is now so special to us.
I will never forget your experience. How completely heartwarming to know that you two got engaged on the deck of Whispering Winds. Maybe it could be a great place for a Honeymoon?? I know several couples who have celebrated their first and second Honeymooned there. I'm so glad for you both. I wish you all the best.

The Whispering WInds cabin experience was one not soon forgotten. The view of the mountain was a joy in itself, truly brought out the meaning of "smokey mts" as the clouds were ever changing leaving the view always an entertaining sight. The cabin was beautiful inside with many extras and certainly made the stay very enjoyable. Being on top of the mountain made for a private retreat which was enjoyed by all. Being able to bring my dogs was a super plus, and they also enjoyed scanning the area off the deck for any little critter that was bold enough to scamper through. The cabin felt like home very quickly, I would love to have the opportunity to stay here again. If I had to list one area that needed improvement, I would have to say the shower head could stand improvement. But over all the stay was AWESOME! Thank you Jeff for sharing your cabin with my family, two legged and four!!! Sue Witte
I'm glad you enjoyed the Cabin. I'm here myself for the first time in nearly a year. I have never been away so long and it shows. There is so much to do. I did not know so many things were in need of attention. I.m sorry you did not like the shower head. I put that one on as it is for places with low water pressure and it made a big difference. The old head did not give a good flow and this one made it much better.
I hope you will be able to visit again. Jeff

This was a last minute decision for my wife and I to rent a cabin. Cabin was great. The gravel road up to the cabin was an experience all by itself. Lucky for us we found another road in and out of the cabin. After that we had a great time and the cabin view every morning was awesome. Great location for exploring the Smoky Mt. and surrounding towns.
One Week Is Never Enough !
August 29, 2013
This cabin was great choice for a family vacation. We used it as our base camp to do a number of fun things during our 1-week stay. The cabin has all the amenities that you will need. Please note that it would be best to use a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get up to the cabin, especially when the gravel road is wet. A 2-wheel drive vehicle will work in good weather, but take caution with vehicles having low ground clearance. The property owner, Jeff, was helpful and stated that improvements will be made to the road to make it more accommodating for visitors. Our activities included : A visit to Max Patch for a 360-degree panoramic view of the surrounding mountains, geocaching in Waynesville, Fantasy Golf in Maggie Valley, fun at Sliding Rock and Looking Glass Falls near Brevard, whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River, gem mining in Franklin, horseback riding at Queen’s Farm Stables in Waynesville, a drive up to Mt. Mitchell with a hike to Mt. Craig, a day trip to Asheville and several scenic rides along the Blue Ridge Parkway. We had some great meals at Nick & Nate’s in Waynesville, Fat Buddies Ribs & BBQ in Franklin and The Asheville Pizza & Brewing Company. Thanks for the memories !
Seclusion within in the clouds!
July 15, 2013
Seclusion and breathtaking views! This is what we found in this mountain retreat cabin. There is both an open and an enclosed porch that allows great visibility of the magnificent mountain peaks in the intermediate distance. The view is often changing. One of the most amazing things is watching the water vapor form in the valley beneath and rise up around us and continue rising until it becomes a beautiful cloud above us. We enjoyed the many varieties of birds that came to the bird feeders on the porch. We also saw raccoons, rabbits and other mountain critters scampering below. The cabin is cozy and well equipped. The bedroom is large and the view out the windows is beautiful. The two of us really enjoyed the many large windows with nothing obstructing the view in the living room. Although it was July there was a nice breeze with the windows open. Long sleeves felt good several nights when the temperature was in the high 50's & low 60's. We are flat-landers from Florida. The road up to the cabin was frightening the first time we navigated it with our low slung 2 wheel drive car but after 3 times we felt comfortable that we would make it up without falling off the side or sliding backwards. Joey's Pancake House proved to be one of our favorite places in Maggie Valley. The sweet potato pancakes are out of this world. The wait time of about 20 minutes prior to seating was enjoyable for people watching. We enjoyed visiting the various nearby small towns. A trip to Waynesville was especially fun as we walked along Main Street and stopped in Mast Store for an hour of shopping. One day we took a 50 minute trip to Hendersonville and enjoyed a truly old fashioned vanilla malted milk shake at Mikes on Main Street (the original Justus Pharmacy) The sandwiches are great too! This trip was completed with a main Street thrift store visit and a shopping spree in another Mast Store. Another day we took an hour & a half trip to Young Harris Georgia where a delightful noon experience and meal took place at the Brasstown Valley Resort. One of our most enjoyable evening meals took place somewhat across the street at "The Brothers Restaurant." We found an old and antique shop on the premises before we returned to the Whispering Winds cabin in Waynesville. As a side note some things in Waynesville we found to be closed (such as the garbage disposal place) on Tuesdays & Thursdays. The entire experience was great and we would do this again. Sincerely C&J

Beautiful Whispering Winds Log Cabin
July 8, 2013
My wife and I always wanted to stay a week in a log cabin. This was our opportunity, and we made the most of it. The cabin was well appointed, very comfortable and very private. The property was obviously well taken care of and very clean! The mountain and valley views from the living room, outdoor patio and master bedroom were magnificent. The owner was especially responsive to our questions and concerns. He really wanted us to have a great time and we did. Even the winding mountain road to the cabin seemed pretty routine after driving it a few times. The cost of renting the property was quite reasonable. We hope to return in the near future! Thank You Cindy and Mark,
I am so glad you enjoyed your stay at Whispering Winds. I miss it so much. I have not been able to go myself since last Oct. It's my #1 all time favorite places to go. It was a pleasure to work with you and thank you for taking such good care while you were there. I hope you will be able to visit again someday. I try to keep improving the experience so next time it may even be nicer than it is now.
July 4, 2013
What a wonderful cabin! We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful location. You could see the mountains from every room and we enjoyed having our meals on the covered deck. We had never driven on such a steep, winding mountain road before. The first trip up the mountain was a bit nerve racking, but by the end of our stay we had adjusted to all the twists and turns in the road. The location was very private, but yet close to many activities and stores. We were thrilled to be able to take our little dog with us, and he entertained himself for hours by looking through the deck rails at the bunny rabbits that were prolific in the area.

Great location, quiet and oh so cozy :)
February 16, 2013
My husband and I stayed here for a week in January with our two golden retrievers in hopes to see snow. The location of the cabin is conveniently located between adorable downtown Waynesville and Maggie Valley/Cataloochee ski area. Also, with only a 40 minute drive with serene views to Asheville there was never a dull moment. The cabin itself was the closest to home I've ever felt being away from home. It was very well equipped with everything we needed to not ever have to leave the cabin aside for food. Our dogs loved roaming the connecting balcony as we enjoyed breathtaking views day in and day out. The owner, Jeff, was extremely accommodating and genuinely cared about our comfort. We hope we can return soon.

Great Place to Stay in Maggie Valley
November 25, 2012
My wife and I was very pleased with this cabin. We have been renting cabins for 5 years in the Smokies and by far this was a five plus and the best one that we have stayed in. The view was fantastic and the interior was perfect. I love how the layout is inside and outside could not asked for a better place to stay on vacation. When we visit this area again in the future we have this place picked out for our stay next time. Thanks Jeff we enjoyed it alot...

Felt like a piece of Heaven
November 1, 2012
I just had a wonderful week in this beautiful house. Everything I needed was right at my fingertips. The views were lovely, the house was very comfy and every need was taken care of. The fireplace was grand as it was nice having a BBQ grill available too. The overall look was very inviting and flet like I was at home. This was a great choice and if I return to the area, I would stay here again.
I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Whispering Winds. It's always nice to hear that your efforts are appreciated but knowing that you would like to come back means more than I can express. I enjoyed talking with you by phone and I look forward to having you return and take in all the things you may not have had time to during this visit. As we discussed, Spring is also a beautiful time with all the fresh growth on the trees and the explosion of color in the abundant wildflowers. Thank You again and please don't hesitate to call or write if I can help in anyway.

Whispering Winds "Wow's"
September 14, 2012
The first "Wow" is your drive up to the cabin on a gravel mountain road that twists, bumps & climbs steeply as the valley floor drops away. A final push at the end of the driveway takes your breath away the first time. I can’t imagine doing it without 4WD. And for your second Wow? Arrive in daylight - not just for the driveway but for your step inside this remarkable cabin. Trying to describe the view outside the windows is like attempting to describe sunshine. You simply have to be here. The cabin is a comfortable work of art: • Blonde tongue & groove pine • Flagstone WB fireplace & kitchen island • Extraordinary American Indian tools, shields & baskets • Terry Redlin & nature prints • Ceramic flooring with inlaid entryway • Wide covered deck with wrap-around porch • Six 6’ screened windows & two full glass doors • Plush “sink-in” family room furnishings • Heavy wood King bed • Attractive ceiling fans placed throughout The next “Wow” - raised kitchen & bathroom fixtures! This would be a perfect set-up for men & women over 6’ tall. The kitchen island, counter, stove & both bathroom vanities are raised 3-4 inches from normal height. At 5’ 3” it wasn’t perfect for me, but it was workable. The owner is responsive & friendly, going out of his way to give information about the cabin & local activities.

High on the Mountain in Maggie Valley
May 30, 2012
Just off route 276, Turn right onto a gravel trail that zigzags up the mountain until you reach the very top. A beautiful cabin lies waiting for you to enjoy its comfort. As you enter the cablin a fully equipped kitchen catches you eye. Across the room a large flat screen tv with Dish Networks becks your attention. As you walk through the hallway you notice washer and dry to your right. Across the hall way oppose the washer and dry you discover two commodes and one urnial. You think to yourself, This guy must have had allot of females in his family. Anyway, as you reach the bed room you lay down on the bed to check the comfort of the king size mattress. Your body calls out, "This is heaven" Finally, you force yourself to leave the comfort of the bed, crossing the room to open the outside door that leads along the porch. A cool breeze slaps you in your face which reenforces your decision to rent this cabin was a very good one.
We will be back!!!

Amazing place! Pictures do NOT do it justice. We have family in the area and travel to Waynesville/Maggie at least once a year. We normally go through the local property managment company, but got frustrated with all the extra fees they charges. I'm so glad I stumbled across this place. The view is amazing and the cabin itself is extremely clean and well taken care of. Lots of extras too! Loved the movie collection, great for family nights by the fire. Owner was kind and pleasant to deal with. I can't wait to visit again!

EVERYTHING & MORE
April 6, 2011
This cabin lives up to the description the owner posted and a whole lot more! We have travelled all over the US and Canada and enjoyed many listings like this but none have lived up to their description like this one! Literally all you need to take is what you plan to eat while you are there. The linens are high end and the kitchen is completely stocked for even the most accomplished cook. We only stayed for a long weekend but it felt like a week or more. So relaxing and peaceful. The views are beautiful any time of day and the XM Radio is a wonderful addition to a warm fire and a romantic dinner. Thank you so much we will be back! Deb & Calvin

Another great vacation
November 1, 2010
This was our second year staying at this location, and it won't be our last. This cabin is secluded on top of a mountain just outside of Waynesville with outstanding views, great accommodations, and an owner who will do all he can to make your stay as pleasant as possible. It truely feels like a home away from home.

The view of Johnathan Creek in the morning with the clouds covering the valley was as pretty as a picture. We have been visiting the GSM for 40 years and this cabin was our highlight. Warm, charming and every amenity one could ask for. Fall foliage was spectacular. The switch-back gravel road was a challenge, but with a little luck and a lot of faith we made it to the top. Though the wet leaves covering the road was gorgious and a beautiful sight, they made the ascend quite slippery. We were experts by the end of the week.

We had the most incredible stay at Whispering Winds! Relaxing with nature we watched birds, clouds and the first of the falling leaves and didn't want to leave. The cabin is so well appointed with all of comforts of home, better than any 4 star hotel! We look forward to being able to return!

Perfect Smoky Mountain Getaway
June 22, 2009
We stayed here for 3 days in early June and we couldn't have been more pleased. Quick and easy to find, yet quiet and secluded. Located just on the outskirts of Maggie Valley and within just a short distance to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Cataloochee of the Great Smoky Mountains. If you're looking for the peaceful side of the Great Smoky Mountains, here you go.
What a magnificent place. Breathtaking views and such a warm, cozy and private setting. We can't wait to come back.

We have never had so much fun and enjoyed such a beautiful home setting! Relaxation and cool mountain breezes as well as all of the local attractions, we had more fun than anyone could hope for!.
