Area Information
Wellfleet is known as the Gallery Town for having over 25 galleries in & around town.
Located 75 miles out into the Atlantic Ocean, Wellfleet offers quaint rural seaside charm and spectacular natural resources. The Atlantic Ocean is on Wellfleet's east shore; Cape Cod Bay is on the west shore. 61% of Wellfleet's land is in the Cape Cod National Seashore Park.
Bay and ocean beaches, fresh water ponds, (13 town beaches in all plus Marconi National Seashore beach!) bike trails, galleries, restaurants, antique dealers, drive-in / multi-screen movie theater, weekend flea market. The new town pier has a marina, boat launching ramp and numerous boat slips. Several churches in town play host to musical performances & children's theater.
Just a 10 minute drive from town is the National Audubon Society where you can take self-guiding tours through the wetlands, around ponds & through the woods. There are classes for children in the mornings- a mini camp & classes for adults (kayaking, canoeing, seal watching, bird watching, etc.) throughout the day & some nights. Just past the Audubon Society on Route 6 is the flea market at one of the few drive-ins left in this country. Every night there is a double feature at the drive-in.
The library is the heart of the town with our head librarian, Elaine McIlroy having been chosen in 2009 by the NY Times & the National Library Association as one of ten winners nationwide of the "I Love My Librarian Award" There is an auditorium in the library where you will find the walls being used as an art gallery & the space being utilised for films, poetry readings, lectures & musical performances almost every day & night. There is a vast library of DVDs available, a wonderful children's library with games & puzzles available as well as the books. There is a reading room of periodicals & newspapers and a large bank of computers for your use as well as WiFi inside as well as on the porch of the library.
Do you love oysters & clams? Wellfleet Oysters are known worldwide for their sweetness & you can order them at any of the numerous restaurants in town or you can gather them yourself. Shellfish licenses are available for purchase down at the pier shack where you purchase your beach stickers. Beach Stickers give you access to all of the ponds in addition to the Wellfleet beaches.
I can go on forever talking about this town that I love!

Relaxing, close to town
August 2, 2011
Our stay was excellent. The house was close to downtown with a fabulous outdoor space to relax before and after the beach. Don't let the proximity to highway 6 on Google maps worry you. In reality it's far enough from the highway that you won't notice it. Inside was well equipped and very comfortable with everything we could possibly need. I can’t say enough goo things about Wellfleet and Rosalie made sure our vacation was awesome.

Wellfleet well-stocked
June 1, 2011
We stayed pre-peak season in this house which we chose for proximity to Wellfleet and dog-friendliness. We loved Wellfleet and the house was kitted with lots of toys for our pup. The house is well-stocked with towels, beach chairs, kitchen tools, etc and is on a quiet street. We weren't enamored with the Cape, but thought Wellfleet was the best bit of it!
