Stayed 2 nights over Valentine’s weekend. There was 12 inches of snow when we arrived. We found the drive up the mountain to be quite treacherous (even in 4x4), but a phone call to Vickie got the road plowed in several hours. So only a slight delay in our trip. (The town does not have T-mobile phone service, so the only place we could call from was McDonald’s using their wifi). Once we got to the house, we were AMAZED! Such a beautiful, romantic setting…and lovely furnishings. The pictures don’t do the home justice. We loved the serenity and the privacy (2 other homes near this one, but due to the weather, we had the entire road to ourselves). We saw 3 deer crossing the road one evening. LOVED the push-button fireplace (gas logs) and the hot tub. Very romantic being in the hot tub surrounded by snow. Got up in the middle of the night with the outside lights on, and watched it snow for several hours! Peaceful and beautiful! The house had plenty of DVD’s to watch and every amenity you could imagine! There is a house phone for local calling, but you’re not able to make long distance calls. Thankfully the house had wifi so we could use our cell phones to make calls & to enjoy the internet. The only (small) complaint we had was that there were no wash clothes in the house (cleaning person mishap I’m sure), but we sufficed by using the hand towels. And I saved the very best for last. My boyfriend proposed to me as I was coming down the stairs on the last morning there. What wonderful, beautiful memories in such an awesome place! Couldn’t have been more romantic!! I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a romantic getaway or a place just to relax and enjoy serenity and nature. We only used the upstairs bedroom, but the house also has 2 other bedrooms (one with bunk beds) and a pull out sofa. So it’s large enough for a family of 8! Will definitely be back again!

My family spent New Years week in this wonderful cabin and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The cabin has a rustic look and feel with all the benefits of home. We were so incredibly comfortable and relaxed during our stay. The location is great. It is in a wooded area, so you have privacy from the other homes in the area and don't feel boxed in. It is located a short and beautiful drive from Boone and Jefferson. Overall, our trip was so amazing and most of my family had the opportunity to see snow for the first time. As the week ended we were sorry we had to return home. The cabin owner (Vicki) is very nice and made renting the property a pleasure. We would highly recommend this wonderful cabin to anyone who wants to have a nice and relaxing vacation. We look forward to our next vacation so we might have the opportunity to return.

We spent a long weekend at the nut house the fall weather was perfect. The house was spotless. Was perfect temperature for the hot tub. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable. I slept like a baby. The heaters in the bathrooms are a special touch on a cool morning. We saw plenty of wildlife even Marley the mountain watchdog. She was a special treat. The drive up the mountain was awesome. Once you get up there the top of the mountains yours. Very private. I would highly recommend staying at this getaway. I know I will be returning again next year

Everything was so clean and fireplace was soo cozy- turned on with a push of a button! Plenty of room privacy for families with kids too as bedrooms are arranged just right! Booked this for a last minute end of the yr ski trip and Vickie was so nice and helpful with getting us in. Took mini van up & no problems with road. Kitchen stocked with any cooking item needed. Lastly, our deposit was returned quickly so a plus as well. Cant wait to go back!

I stayed at the Nut House last summer, with my 3 dogs. It was so quiet and comfortable, I felt as if it were mine. Complete with Margarita glasses! The dogs had free run, but were never very far. The hot tub was a nice way to start a pleasant evening,of star gazing and listening to the night sounds of Nature. Vickie is very accessible and accommodating. .I went upstairs only once to have a look. Otherwise I stayed downstairs where I was very comfortable. Went into town once for groceries. Otherwise I was content to stay put. The winding road was not a problem. The fire pit was nice for early evenings. Unfortunately, I won't be able to return this year. But I expect to go back again, hopefully can bring a couple of friends next time to share the experience.

Even though the weather did not co-operate, we had a wonderful time in West Jefferson. The house was attractive, clean, very well stocked and had beautiful views. The road up to the Nut House was not the straightest, flattest or smoothest we had ever driven; but as long as you drive slow, no troubles. There had been heavy rains a few weeks prior which I know did not help much. If you want to get away from the city, this would be a great choice.

This place is beautiful, inside and out. It is a short distance from lots of fun places, too. I took my daughter for her 13th birthday with a few of her friends and we all had a blast. However, beware of the drive up the mountain. It is the second to the last house at the top and a 4 wheel drive vehicle would be ideal for the trek. I have a 4 cylinder, front wheel drive and it made it ok but that's because the ground was dry. Had it have rained, I would have been stranded. It was well worth the drive though. :)

Cabin Fever met just about every expectation we had for our trip to the mountains of N.C. Not only because it was cozy and well taken care of, but also because it was located in a secluded enough place, where we got to enjoy nature to the fullest. The only concerned that I would bring up is the kitchen. We went during thanks giving, so trying to cook a meal of that sort in the outdated oven was definitively a challenge, and I would say even a bit dangerous. However, don't let that discourage you from renting the cabin. It is well taken care of and it is worth the money!!!

The house proved to have everything we wanted: solitude, lovely views, very nice furniture, and all amenities such as the hot tub and electronics 100% functional. We also had a resident pair of wild turkeys. We enjoyed the fire cicle on the deck each night too. My wife found the hairpin turns and erosion bumps unnerving for our Honda van, so I drove. I thought it added to the adventure..... We would stay again.

All arrangements prior to our arrival were professional and most satisfying. We arrived on Friday and found lodging which far exceeded our expectations. Pictures on the web site do not do justice to the fine interior and décor. We settled in and tried out the hot tub. What a way to start - wine, cheese and crackers in a beautiful surrounding. We spent 4 wonderful weeks in this upscale property, never wanting for anything. It's perfect location and serenity was the cornerstone of our stay. The location makes it a perfect place to enjoy what is offered in the area - Boone, Grandfather Mountain, Sugar Mountain, vineyards, the Parkway and the wonderful hiking trails all across the tri-county area. We felt at home in West Jefferson with its quaint downtown, friendly locals and a helpful tourist office. This house is highly recommended for any size group. We look forward to another visit in 2013. Thank you Vicki for allowing us to stay.

We rented the Nut House with some friends while we were in the Jefferson area for a wedding. It's a lovely house and served our needs well, even with six adults and six kids (most of the kids slept in one room, some in sleeping bags on the floor). The main room is quite spacious and we enjoyed cooking a leisurely breakfast for all. It rained the whole time we were there so I can't comment on the view, but certainly the surrounding area is beautiful. The one drawback to the Nut House is that it is at the top of a difficult road. It's only a mile or so off the main road, but that mile is unpaved, extremely bumpy, and quite steep at times. I'm sure plenty of vehicles could make the drive just fine, but our Hyundai Elantra had significant difficulty on a few steep curves. We were very relieved when we finally arrived at the house, and glad to see that it lived up to the pictures & description on this website.

We lovvvvvvved this Cabin! I rented the Nut House for a surprise birthday getaway with my boyfriend and his brother and sister in law. Let's just say the pictures do not do it justice! It is perched on top of a mountain in the woods and there is an amazing view from the back of the house. There are other cabins in the area however, we were on a private acre surrounded by full trees and had complete privacy. The entire house is fully stacked with everything you would need for a vacation including towels and linen and cooking supplies. The hot tub was amazing and the fireplace easily lit. The dual level allows for private living for couples, yet the entire cabin has such a romantic and comfortable feel that we felt right at home. Everything was very clean and well kept. Vickie (the property owner) was amazing. She was easy to contact and assisted us with finding the cabin upon arrival. She returned our deposit promptly and answered all of our questions in a timely and efficient manner. The drive up to the cabin was a little rocky at first but soon became a breeze and was well worth the surprise at the top! There is a Walmart 4 miles from the cabin (in town) and you can buy groceries and any other necessities. Also it less than 30 minutes from the attractions in Blowing Rock and Boone! I would recommend this cabin for couples, friends, a family with children, or anyone just wanting a peaceful, beautiful getaway!

Hi. This cabin is just how she describes it, very upscale, Loved the open floor plan. We will be staying here again. However, the this cabin is on top of a mountain, in the winter months you would have to have an SUV. The drive is well maintained, but our Sonata drug a few times going in. There is lots of parking. There is a fire ring on back porch so don't forget your mountain pie irons. They also have a home made ice cream maker. We made strawberry. This cabin is handi cap accessible, there are high toilets, and one level bed, bath, kitchen, dining. From outside there are 2 steps so you might need a small ramp. Lots of games, movies, books... Bring your games for the game system. We were very pleased, and it was a great over all experience.
