Cozy Private Lakeside Cabin, Dock & Sandy Swimming

“Watavu Cabin” is a waterfront property overlooking beautiful Lake Balch in Newfield, Maine. Our family has enjoyed decades of fishing, boating, water-skiing, swimming, grilling, sunbathing, and lakeside relaxation at “Watavu,” and we would like to offer these experiences to you. We have kept the cabin in original form, with white pine walls and floors, a stone fireplace, and the following amenities:

The cabin consists of two units, an upper and lower rental. This is great for big families, multifamily rentals, and small reunions. If you rent the upper unit only, the lower unit will be closed and unavailable to other renters. We look forward to sharing a wonderful part of our family tradition and a week or two of summertime, swimming, and relaxation.

Notice on Noise and Behavior: While our cabin is one of the greatest places in the world to enjoy some beer or wine with friends, family or loved ones, the cabin resides in a small peaceful and respectable community. Therefore, we respectfully seek mature renters who will NOT be overly loud and treat the cabin as a party house. THANK YOU!

What makes “Watavu” truly unique is its hilltop location overlooking the water, which is often described “the best spot on the lake.” The cabin is conveniently located only one hour from popular New England tourist destinations such as Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire’s rugged White Mountains, and the scenic Maine coast. The cabin is about a 2 hour drive from Boston and a 1 hour drive from Portland.

The West Newfield/Acton area itself is quaint and charming in a traditional Maine setting. The cabin is within easy driving distance to a number of grocery stores, Mom & Pop restaurants (Ted's Fried Clams, Poor People's Pub), ice cream stands, pubs, hardware stores and gas stations. Also nearby are scenic orchards, perfect for an afternoon of blueberry-picking.
