Victorian Cottage on Westport Island
The cottage on Westport Island is a 1913 Victorian Cottage which we have owned since 1970. It has been lovingly maintained by head carpenter, Paul, over the years. Many members of my family have poured their love and sweat into this property. The cottage has four bedrooms, two large screened porches, two bathrooms, washing machine, standard simple kitchen, and high ceilings on the first floor. The house is NOT wheel chair accessible. Warning: there is a small t-v in the house to watch DVD’s, but no cable or satellite, so come prepared to listen to the radio, and play cards, games, and badminton. In 2011, we did add Wi-Fi, so you can get E-mail. The owner uses moth balls to guard against critters, so be aware of that. We own frontage on the Sheepscot River, and belong to an association which owns a STEEP path to the water where there is a boathouse and small mussle-covered beach. The river is tidal, and the saltwater is cold, so it is a great river for boating. Children under 10 years of age must wear a PFD when near the water. A new safety rule to keep kids safe. There are wonderful lake and ocean swimming beaches within a half hour drive. Renovation of the downstairs bathroom should be complete this Spring, and hopefully we will have a dryer to sit alongside our washer. It will be splendid!
There are many restaurants in the area, and our favorites are Sea Basket, Le Garage, and Montsweag Roadhouse. These businesses are in Wiscasset, which is a 10 minute drive from the house. Estes Lobster House is in Harpswell. Five Islands Lobster is in Georgetown. There are many restaurants in Boothbay Harbor, and many other activities including boat tours and bowling! There is a Botanical Garden in Boothbay which has quickly become a family favorite.
Shaw's grocery store is less than 10 minutes from the house. We have a wonderful fish market in Bath, Maine.

Authentic Coastal Maine
June 9, 2014
A wonderfully comfortable and tranquil home with a lovely view. A beautiful natural setting, yet very close to everything. Mornings we spent on the porch listening to the song birds while watching the morning fog lift off the river. The home was on nice quiet road, a perfect place to take a morning walk down to the dock. This home had a well equipped kitchen, plenty of plates, pots, pans, glasses, etc and also a great grill for evening meals. The house was very clean and the beds were comfortable. Each room gave us a great view of the surrounding woods or of the river. Cottage doesn't seem an adequate description, as this home is very large and spacious. Owners gave lots of tips on best state parks to visit, what sandy beaches were best for kids to play at, what restaurants to eat at, great places to shop, etc. and each suggestion was spot on. If you want a place to get away and have and have an authentic coastal maine experience this is the place. Will definitely stay again! It was such a memorable experience!

Have been to this lovely spot many times over the past 20 years. Totally relaxing and peaceful. Lots to do if you wish or just sit out and view the river. Many spots to sit and read a good book! Cozy and comfortable.

Away from it all, yet good for day outings

Some quilting friends and I have stayed here a number of times. We love having our family style meals in the screened porch. It is near historical seafaring sites and homes to tour. This place is relaxed, maybe even rustic and has lots of windows to watch nature as you visit friends and family.
Peaceful and lovely

We have stayed at this lovely country cottage a couple of different times. It is very roomy comfortable. We played games, read, and I brought my sewing machine and did some quilting. Very relaxing and peaceful but yet not far at all from places to visit and things to do.
Great midcoast location!

We stayed here with our two young sons. Great location and lots to do: beaches, lakes, Boothbay Harbor, LLBean, Portland, and more!
Our cottage is a large, comfortable house, with quiet surroundings, and a pleasing and relaxing feeling about it. We have enjoyed this house and location for more than 40 years. The cottage is lovingly maintained, and every effort is made to provide a clean and comfortable stay for our guests.
