A 20-25 minute drive to Anacortes where you can hop on the ferry for an incredibly beautiful scenic experience in the San Juan Islands.
Beachcombing along the miles of beach with access right from the deck is also a favorite activity among visitors.
Joseph Whidbey State Park is located 1/8 of the mile down the beach.
The home is located within 15 minutes of the Deception Pass Bridge and State Park. A spectacular site to behold!
Grocery stores and shopping less than 4 miles away, 2 Golf Courses within 1 mile of the home.
A few of our favorite "nicer" restaurants are Fraser's Hideaway or Seabolts in Oak Harbor, Adrift in Anacortes, Christopher's in Coupeville, and Seeds or Kersten's in La Conner. On the very casual side, there is China City or 123 Thai in Oak Harbor.
Less than a 30 minute drive to the Port Townsend Ferry, Langley, Coupeville and Anacortesgreat communities for shopping and exploring!

Perfect. The home was beautiful and all the pictures matched the property exactly. Excellent place to relax. We mutually agreed we would use this property again. FYI-if planning on having an outdoor fire on the deck, they do not want it being used.

Everything A Family Needed for A Great Beach Break
August 20, 2012
Our family (from 2yrs to 70) just had a wonderful two weeks at this property -- the best views on Whidbey's west side, the weather gave us glorious sunsets to admire from the ENORMOUS deck, and a lovely, spacious home that met all our needs. We were overwhelmed by the attention paid to comfort (great beds!) and decor -- there were treats for the eyes everywhere one looked in this home. Plenty of room for family meals both indoors and out on multiple tables, a hot tub our family used at night, with skies full of stars and the twinkling lights of towns on the Peninsula, the San Juans and Anacortes to the north. The kitchen allowed for multiple cooks, and was beautifully appointed, everything one could need for summer vacation cooking. Raves for the huge outdoor grill as well. One of the nicest features was the lovely fenced and grassy yard on the east side of the house, with views beyond of the marsh and all its feathered visitors. Lots of parking available off-street . The entire property is fenced, so is safe for little people. We saw eagles and heron every morning from the deck! All the amenities one could want for a great family vacation. Many thanks to our hosts for sharing this wonderful spot with us!

Perfect place to stay on Whidbey Island!!!
August 31, 2011
My family of 6, with 4 kids ranging in age from 4 to 13, stayed here for 8 nights. We had a delightful stay and the house was just perfect for us. From the gorgeous sunsets to the fantastic beach to the amazing, huge deck to the beautiful, comfortable house, everything was just as we had hoped... and even better! There were even eagles and blue herons on the beach right in front of us. All I can say is, if you are visiting Whidbey Island, there is no better place to stay than the Retreat at Sunset Beach!!

We planned this trip 5 months in advance . Fly to an area of the country we'd never been before to spend some time with our son recently returned from Iraq and now stationed at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. The home was larger than 2 of us needed but we wanted nice ;spacious and water front .......we were certainly not disappointed. The appointments in the house were perfect in every way ; the views of the Straits from the master and living room were magnificent . Having coffee on the deck in the morning ;a glass of wine in the evening and clearly seeing the Olympic Mountain Range on several days was an added treat we did not expect . We were standing in the kitchen looking at the lake across the road and sitting on top of a pole was a huge Bald Eagle .......Im not making this up ! It was like an ever changing canvas that was constantly changing just for us . We did not close the windows in the Master during our 6 night stay as the sound of the surf was so soothing . Even though the house offered wireless internet connectivity and we had cell phone service ; we totally shut down for this week and it paid off . We were truly relaxed and because we had the space our son stayed with us each night . The owners were a real pleasure to work with and we were met at the house by a local contact that was as well extremely helpful . A week; a house and an atmosphere we will not forget Tom , Darden and Thomas Baker

We visited for the first time this beautiful home located RIGHT on the beach. It was absolutely amazing! Huge deck w/comfortable chairs (& firepit) overlooking views & relaxing sounds of the ocean, sealife, birds- including eagles & gorgeous sunsets. Easy access to the beach from the deck. Used the barbeque one night for dinner-it was nice having that option. The layout of the house is very nice & comfortable. The decor/ style & colors are beautiful. Loved it! Very cozy. Lots of windows to take in the sights & sounds. Also enjoyed the stereo/cd player in the living room. What a weekend- the best/warmest of the year. Such great timing. Calm, sunny days. What a treat for oceanfront & on the west side of the island. We will definitely be back again! Thank you so much for such a memorable experience. :)

Didn't Want To Leave!
March 3, 2011
After a wonderful, long weekend, we really felt like we were leaving our own home and did not want to go! The accomodations for our family of 4 and a set of grandparents were perfect. Loved the extra family room downstairs, the views were magnificent and relaxing in the hot tub could not have been more breathtaking. Thank you for opening your beautiful place to us. P.S. The property manager, Jody was great too. Very nice and helpful. Also, the bottle of wine was a really nice surprise. Thank you for everything!

Relaxing and beautiful.

My wife and I loved our stay here. Sitting in the hot tub as the sun set and then being treated to a starry night over the water about tops it all. The rooms are inviting and relaxing, the kitchen is beautiful, and the views are stunning. We hope to stay here again soon.

Second year in a row we've rented this home. Incredible view/beachfront setting, home is very comfortable and well appointed in terms of supplies, etc. Great Kitchen! Very reasonably priced. We will be back next year!

Our time in your beautiful home was superb. Quiet with wonderful view from front and back. Can't think of anything you could add to make your home more comfortable. Will be back. Liz, Trish, & Karen

This was a great home with a fantastic view. The Ostrom's were easy to work with and answered my numerous questions. The orca's were unbelievalbe! Each night were called to sleep by gently crashing waves and sweet lullaby's sung by rare Pacific mermaids. The water was a little cold; however it did not deter us from daily swims with the harbor porpoises directly off the rocky beach. I carefully watched for otter's yet did not see any. The kitchen was perfect for our gourmet chef to complete his culinary masterpieces. And lastly, being from the birthplace of flight, I enjoyed watching the airplanes maneuver from the nearby navy base. I would recommend this property to anyone who breathes.

Having stayed in a number of different facilities in and around the island "The Retreat at Sunset Beach" is now at the top of our list. Everything you see and read at their web site is 100 percent on the money.

This was the second year we stayed in this home and it was as wonderful as the first time. We will come again.

Beautiful place to stay. We we're on our honeymoon and spent five wonderful nights at this beach front property. At times (high tide) we felt it was like a cruise ship, you're so close to the water you can't see the beach. The nice thing about this home is that the pictures don't do it justice. I highly recommend it.

Surpassed all of our expectations!
June 17, 2010
Rented the house with one of my best friends and we had a truly incredible time. We were so enthralled with the view/proximity of the ocean that we happily spent most of our time on the expansive deck, walking on the beach and grilling fresh vegetables we had bought at one of the local farmers markets. It was a pleasure to cook in the well appointed kitchen, to have a fire going in the fireplace and to relax in the hot tub on the deck while hearing the waves roll up on the beach. Everything in the house was lovely, spacious and comfortable including the beds, closets, towels, etc. I actually made it in the exercise room a couple of times which was convenient to have on the property and the deck was ideal for some morning yoga. The property manager was fantastic and easily available by phone/in person if we had any questions or concerns- this gave us such piece of mind. The photos on the site simply do not do this house justice, every view from even the tiny windows in the walk in closet lead to an awe inspiring view. The ocean is so much of the experience when you're inside the house, that you almost feel like you're on a large boat. This soulful house is a place to bring friends and family to relax and to re-connect with them, yourself and nature. The owners are lovely and easy to communicate with- all the financial dealings were very easy and straightforward. The neighborhood was easy to navigate and had every store we needed. Would love to go back soon!

This is a very special home and the owners have taken great pride in providing the finest down to every detail. The home itself is just stunning. The decor is beautiful, beautiful views from every room. You will never find a beach home nicer than this one. The deck is huge with plenty of room for comfortable entertaining. I can't stress enough how everything about this home and everything in the home is just top of the line....from the linens, dinnerware, pots and pans, cutlery. The owners have specialty soaps in all the baths and kitchen. The house smells beautiful. The furniture is gorgeous...they even have a 2nd living room downstairs which is a nice retreat from the main living area if you have children...complete with a big screen t.v. I cannot articulate the beauty of this home. The views are the best you would ever find in this part of the world. We saw eagles and were able to photograph them closely. Lots of fun times walking up and down the beach looking for sea life which we found in abundance. We were so excited that a buoy from a passing ship made its' way to the shore. Sleeping to the sound of the waves was the ultimate in relaxation. We also really enjoyed the hot tub. They have an additional exercise room for those inclined to keep in shape (we were lazy!). Take a tour of the navy base and see building 12 which houses a small museum dedicated to the PBY aircraft exhibit. We also met one of the last survivors of the USS Arizona!

Oh, What a Stay!!
June 4, 2010
We live in Seattle and were fortunate to book this beautiful resort home on fairly short-notice. The House: Warm ,plush but unpretentious, with a very natural "Northwest" feel. SPA-like amenities: well-maintained hot tub, big thick luxurious towels and crisp sheets. The spacious kitchen was chef-ready with high-end appliances and quality cooking utensils. The outdoor gas-grill worked like charm. Waking up in the master bedroom and looking out the bank of windows to see the beach and expansive views of the sound was definite memory maker. The only disappointment was the inability to use the fire pit out on the deck however the indoor fireplace provided lots of warmth and NW ambiance. The Setting: Expansive views, crashing waves with driftwood-lined sandy beach. We watched the red glowing sun unexpectedly peek out from a slit in the heavy grey clouds as if it was staged to top off our last day! Oh, what a stay!!

My husband and I have had the privilage of staying here a few times...just perfect for relaxing. We always feel right at home. We love walking on the beach and going to sleep hearing the sound of the waves. It's so clean and the decorating is beautiful; comfortable and classy.

A private piece of paradise
January 30, 2010
I have the privilege of living on the water in a special place in Washington, so I was not prepared for the uniqueness of this home and the crashing waves and views all the way to Japan!(or so it seems). The decor and comfort of the home absolutely envelope you in every room. After relaxing by the fire with a good book, or enjoying a meal prepared in the gourmet kitchen, it's time for a walk on the beach, where you will take in the wild ocean waves and incredible sunsets. Take our advice when we say you'll want to extend your stay at this amazing home. Book two weeks and be prepared to ask for more!

A Very Merry Christmas
January 3, 2010
My little family stayed in this amazing house for four days right after Christmas. We had just lost my Mother and I needed a change of scenery. From the moment we arrived I felt light hearted. On our first day an eagle flew right over the house, so close I could've touched it. A few days later a pair sat on the neighbor's roof top and visited with us for an hour. The house is very nicely appointed, elegant yet cozy. The little touches made me feel pampered. The beachfront hot tub was a delight. The sound of the waves lulled us to sleep at night. I came home from our little get-a-way with my spirits renewed and I am very grateful to our hosts! Thank you and happy new year.

Where I hope to hang my hat again soon
July 29, 2009
Whidbey Island, WA, USA – couple of years ago I had no idea where this place was. For my young age I have travelled quite a lot and I still have a lot to travel. I am very well aware that there are many amazing places hidden to general knowledge. The moment I set my foot in the West Beach Rd. house on Whidbey Island, I knew this was one of them. A Czech writer once said that home is where you hang your hat. I did hang my hat in the West Beach house, although it is quite a trip from Prague to Whidbey and I believe to be back there one day soon, to hang my hat there again. When I look at my pictures from the West Beach from time to time I feel a bit the wind coming from the ocean, the rays of the Sun setting behind the small islands, the sound of waves hitting the rocky beach, the scream of the seagulls, the warmth of the house. One would have to be senseless not to enjoy all of it and not to be eager to go back there soon.

The house met all of our expectations, and in some cases exceeded them! The island was a great place to explore, and this house gave us a perfect "base," not to mention the fact the at the end of each day, it was peaceful and relaxing. I would recommend HIGHLY recommend this home.
July 10, 2009
If you're looking for a peaceful and luxurious spot to wind down and relax, this is it! I've spent a lot of time here and I can highly recommend it. The house is beautifully appointed, spacious and situated between the ocean and a large, undeveloped wildlife refuge. Lounge on the spacious and gorgeous deck, build a fire, and watch the waves roll in. Heavenly! Work out in the attached mini-gym on quality equipment, or soak in the hot tub and watch your nerves untangle and your body relax. Wake up to a view of the ocean through nearly floor-to-ceiling windows. This is my idea of a perfect retreat and I plan to return yearly as long as possible.
July 9, 2009
We stayed for 4 nights with our two kids and our parents. We had a wonderful time. There was plenty of room for all of us. Between the yard in front, the deck and the beach, our kids did not want leave. We rarely left the house the entire time. We all hope to come back again.
Beautiful honeymoon adventure
June 8, 2009
My wife and I stayed here for a week on our honeymoon. Unbelievable! From falling asleep to the sound of gentle waves to sipping our coffee on the deck in the cool of the morning, it was an escape unparalleled. By the time you add closeness to groceries and video rentals, a sleek but warm kitchen to prepare meals and finish your days with walks on the beach, you are thoroughly lost in relaxation. Did I mention we highly recommend it?!
