Come stay in the cottage that has it all. "Sonia" is a four season lake side cottage on spring fed and trout stocked Mirror Lake deep in the White Mountains of northern New Hampshire. It is located in the picturesque New England town of Whitefield where you can find pancake breakfasts in the summer, movies for the kids anytime, and the famous eatery, Grandma's Kitchen, featured in Town and Leisure magazine.
Whitefield is located near numerous northern New Hampshire attractions. For the kids (and bigger people, too!) we have Storyland, Six Gun City, and water slides. Mount Washington is 26 miles away. Climb it on foot, by the Cog rail road, or by car. Ski on Loon Mountain (38 miles), Attitash (35 miles), Cannon (25 miles), or Bretton Woods (15 miles), but pay only a fraction of the lodging cost. Hike some of New Hampshire's 48 four thousand-foot mountains. Go antiquing; scout bargains at numerous outlet shops, including L.L. Bean. Or just kick back and watch the play of light on Mirror Lake while sipping your favorite brew.
Sonia sleeps 4. There is a queen size bed in the loft, a double in the bedroom, a double size, pull out couch, and an Aero air mattress. The front porch is screened; the back deck overlooks the lake. The kitchen is fully furnished (refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, two burner stove top, toaster oven) and seats 3. The screened porch seats 4; the picnic table seats 4. Cable television, VCR, DVD player, and a radio complement the living area.
This is a very private setting with immediate access to a major roadway.

Sonia is clean and cozy. Despite the closeness of other cabins we felt like we had the entire area and lakefront to ourselves. The morning hikes to Weeks State Park to see the mountains cloaked in morning fog was a perfect way for us to start our day. With so many things to see and do we were busy on day trips in NH, VT, and ME, but we always made it back for a relaxing evening at the cottage. My wife and I had an enjoyable and relaxing stay and the cottage had everything we needed. Too bad the fish weren't as cooperative :-) Life is short, enjoy the ride!

We had a great time while we were there. It had everything we needed. We loved getting up in the morning and having our coffee while watching the loons play in the lake. We caught some bass and had them for dinner one night and it was great. Our grandaughter loved the beach area and loved swimming. We all had a great time. We would vacation there again anytime. Thanks for a great holiday. The Kanes

There's no other way to describe our vacation. "Sonia" is a circa 1920's cottage set on a green lawn that slopes down to the lake. When you have breakfast you can watch people trolling for trout or see the widening circles made by the loons as they dive for food. You may want to go out in the canoe that comes with the rental and catch your own dinner! Late morning usually found us visiting one or another of the attractions in this White Mountains region like the bear show at Clark's Trading Post in the nearby town of Lincoln, or climbing Mt. Washington on the auto route. Our car is proudly sporting its "I Climbed Mt. Washington" sticker! Then in the afternoon we hung out by the lake. There's just a little beach, but we just laid our towels on the grass and let all of our cares float away on the water. It was a lovely time.

"Sonia" is such a sweet, little cottage -- everything neat and tidy. We were concerned that we might have forgotten to bring some essential item with us on our vacation, but not to worry. Sonia has everything from soup to nuts -- even tea and salt and pepper! We enjoyed everything about the cottage and the setting. But what was best was watching the sun set over the lake and behind the mountain. One minute this big orange disk, and then poof, all you see is the mountain's outline against the sky. You can't go wrong renting Sonia cottage!

Sonia was the perfect vacation getaway. EVERYTHING one could possibly need or want was available, down to the smallest details like twist ties and paper clips. It is absolutely adorable and the location on the lake, (with canoe available), is beautiful. I never tired of looking out of the window at the water, searching for the loons or beavers one occasionally saw. Because the lake has very little traffic, it was an especially peaceful experience. At the same time, it is conveniently close to town and to the local summer stock theater. I loved it and hope to return soon.

My husband and I loved "Sonia"! It was neat as a pin, efficient, charming, and had a spectacular view of the lake. We caught bass and, if we had tried bait, would've gotten trout, no doubt. Our favorite moments: watching the mist rise from the lake in the morning, the light from the firepit at night, and the rising of the moon over the lake. The peaceful setting meant I got to read more than I have in months. We hope to return sometime soon!

Oh, Sonia cottage, what a wonderful experience you were! How to describe the cry of the loons as the sun goes down, or the taste of grilled trout straight from the lake, or the stillness in the canoe as my husband and I paddled from shore to shore in the early morning hours. We opted to stay in the loft bedroom instead of the first floor one, because it has such a cozy feeling. We sort of nestled in and read ourselves to sleep instead of bothering with the television and the real life that it brings with it. We wanted a hiatus from reality and our day-to-day lives, and we found it on Mirror Lake in Sonia cottage. Thank you for a memorable week. We'll be back!

This cottage was the perfect getaway for a Valentine weekend. So much snow, peace, togetherness for us that it was a weekend of contentment. We never used the TV, never were bored, and enjoyed every second. Beautiful sunsets!! I guess now we have to leave, with only the best of memories. Joyce and Pete C.
(New Year's Weekend) Happy new year! We love the improvements; it looks great. Nice to see our vision completed, knowing someone loves Sonia cottage as much as we did. We'll be back. Cheryl and Dave F.
I want to live here! Diane T.
