Description of the Williamsburg vacation home rental
The home is set on the bank of the Diascund, which is a tributary of the Chickahominy and James rivers. It is partly secluded on 4 acres about 15 miles west of Williamsburg. It has a beautiful view of a wide expanse of the tidal river and a 75-foot pier threads through Cypress trees. The dock at the pier’s end can be used for swimming and fishing in the river. The river can be explored with both a canoe and Johnboat available on the property. Some fishing equipment is available at the house. The water is not salty; so there are no stinging jellyfish, and swimming is good all summer.

The house has a wrap-around covered porch, which faces the river and has a gas grill. It has normal central heating and air conditioning. The house is on an elevated river bank, and pilings provide more elevation; so there are beautiful views of the river through the double glass doors surrounding the house. The living room has a sleeper sofa and a TV with cable and VCR + DVD plus a radio/tape player. The kitchen has a refrigerator, gas stove/oven, microwave oven, drip coffee maker, toaster/broiler oven, and plenty of cooking utensils and dishes. The bathroom has a tub/shower. The master bedroom has a private balcony facing the pier. It has a king bed and vanity with its own private sink. The second bedroom has two twin beds.

The maximum capacity of the house is four people. Also, please see in the table below that the minimum stay is 5 nights out-of-season and 7 nights in season.

Area Info
The area is mostly wooded with residential and vacation homes on or near the Diascund and Chickahominy rivers. Many good restaurants are in the Williamsburg area, which has big outlet malls, which are about a 20 minute drive. Two large grocery stores are less than 15 minutes away. Colonial Williamsburg is a reconstructed historical town, which is a living museum of the time of the country’s birth. There is no cost to walk through the town and see the houses and establishments much like they were in the 18th century. Visitor’s centers at Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown, site of the first permanent European settlement, have tours, movies, and interesting presentations. Just east of Williamsburg is Busch Gardens, a beautiful theme park based on the Old World, and Water Country, a water park for all ages. For those who golf, the Colonial Golf Club’s course is only 4 miles away. Virginia Beach is about 1-1/2 hours away by car. The Confederate Capital of Richmond is about 45 minutes away and Washington DC, outside rush hour, is about 2 1/4 hours by car.

this was a very very good decision to stay at the tree house. it was close enough to williamsburg, but far away enough to feel like home instead of on the road. we recommend very highly if you are interested. very good price compared to hotels in the area.

Home Away from Home

January 4, 2011

Bob and I have travelled to the Williamsburg area a number of times since our daughter and husband moved to Newport News. Our 1 1/2 year old grandaughter provided us with the incentive to rent the Tree House for space to play with her. the house was clean, comfortable and with lots of room for the family dinners. We're very glad to be there rather than a hotel. Although we couldn't fish given the time of year, it was wonderful to be in the house in the sky to view the snowy surroundings. To add to it, Jim and Mary Sawhill are gracious and communicative hosts. Thanks.

The Right Pace: Cozy, Comfortable, Well-Appointed

November 23, 2010

Just the right balance of accessibility and privacy, the Tree House, is charmingly nestled in native trees, with up-close views of nature from every window. The full moon shining through the master bedroom, its twin reflected in the water, was breathtaking. In the morning, if you quietly go to gather the cut-to-size logs [provided and stacked by the owner] to revive the previous night's wood stove fire, you will very likely be treated to a visit from a curious doe. Sturdy pier and dock great for relaxing with books and camera. The house is very well appointed. The owners clearly have considered the comfort of their "visitors". Everything works! Cleanliness top drawer! Helpful area guides and well-rounded variety of reading and viewing material on site. We enjoyed every relaxing, self-indulgent moment at The Tree House. A Tidewater Virginia gem.

Tree House = Fun House

November 21, 2010

Loads of fun. Kids had a blast catching all kinds of fish. Be sure to call River Rest Restaurant Capt. Charlie on the "Chick"ahominy. He will pick up by boat and return to dock. Great food! We brought small boat and launched nearby which added to the fun of exploring the river. Blue Crabs were also plentiful right off the end of the dock. If you like getting close to nature this is the best. Easy access to everything.

Peaceful and Scenic

November 17, 2010

The treetop house was a great place to stay. The location is close enough to Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown to experience some of Virginia’s best historic locations. Yet, we could relax and grill at “home” to have a family dinner overlooking beautiful Chickahominy scenery. Our kids enjoyed fishing from the dock. The wood stove fireplace provided that little extra vacation like experience for the October evenings. The home is clean and well kept, and our stay was very enjoyable.

Tree House

September 5, 2010

The Tree House was very clean and had all the things you would need to feel at home . We sat on the front porch and watched the boaters and fished from the dock . The owner went out of his way to meet us there as we arrived very late. It's very quiet and peaceful but a very short drive to all the attractions .

Love the getaway on a river and close to sites.

June 14, 2010

The Tree House as is a nice home to stay in. It was on the river, with its own pier and john boat and a canoe. I enjoyed being able to introduce my kids to boating and fishing on a river, brought back childhood memories for me. It is very convient to get to the sites of Jamestown, Yorktown, and Williamsburg. The house is located just a distance away, that you feel you are isolated and can relax away from the traffic. The house was nicely furnished. The owners were very considerate, and want make sure your stay is comfortable, and you only have to buy what you want to eat. Enjoyed having the grill on the deck to cook meals on. Fishing off the deck was good for a child starting out, to catch small bass and catfish. But saw other people in boats fishing near the dock in the AM and some larger fish caught. If you are visting the historic sites, allow yourself extra time, then they claim in the books to complete, expecially if you like history. Our 9 had just studied some so it was good timing for him to recall what he learned, and our to be sophmore will be in American History this next year, but recalled alot he had learned in school over the past years. Encourge the Day Plus pass at Williamsburg, to allow enough time to tour all the homes. The owners, were quick to send back the deposit money, after we had left. Would highly recommend. Possibly return in the fall some time to fish more and enjoy some cooler weather and pot belly stove.
