Refined Rustic Retreat
|Per night:||$140 - $195|
Our guests rave about the quiet and peaceful atmosphere. One of our guests said in the guestbook: “We leave here a changed people. The peace is consuming. The beauty immense. The sounds refreshing. Thank you for reviving my soul.”
Bedrooms are on the upper floors. The master bedroom has a queen bed, the second bedroom, a king bed; there are two alcoves, one with a double sofa bed and one with a double futon. A double air mattress is available for use in the cupola room. The second floor has two full baths with a half bath on the first floor.
Our amenities compare to a boutique hotel – crisp hand ironed sheets and pillow cases, handsome comforters on the beds, fluffy towels and natural soaps. We do our own laundry, without the harsh chemicals and industrial finishing of a commercial laundry.
Your children will be intrigued to be in a cabin surrounded by woods, to sleep in the cupola or in a loft overlooking the woodstove in the greatroom. Your dog will love romping and exploring the woods and fields.
Everything you need is at hand: flat screen TV, Wi-Fi, fully equipped kitchen with microwave and toaster oven, crock pot, flatware and china, wine glasses, Bunn instantaneous coffee maker. Washer/dryer combo is located in the utility room.
Our woodstove burns wood from the farm. We have an outdoor fire ring with log furniture down by the barn. We supply hand split firewood for both. Since we have well water, there is no hot tub.
Out on the deck overlooking a wooded dell is a gas grill and table and chairs for dining and lounging.
Have breakfast on the sun-dappled deck. Stroll down our woodland path to the cave. Bring a flashlight to explore the cave. Follow the woodland path to the log barn where you enjoy a spectacular view of the Appalachian foothills in the distance. In the evening, start a fire in the fire pit and roast marshmallows, or star gaze from the big field, where the Milky Way shines across the sky. Relax in the great room before a sparkling fire in the stove, surrounded with warm pine paneling and cedar trim.
About Adams County:
Adams County is one of the most beautifully scenic counties in Ohio. The Great Serpent Mound is the largest effigy mound in the country. The Amish community offers shops and tidy well kept farms. The southern boundary is the Ohio River, with gorgeous views, fishing and boating. Nature Conservancy’s Edge of Appalachia Preserve and numerous state natural areas showcase the county’s unique features.
Visit the Great Serpent Mound and its visitor center. Check out the Wheat Ridge Amish community shops and well kept farms. Travel the Quilt Barn Trail and see the rural countryside by car. Follow the ride of Confederate John Hunt Morgan and his Raiders through Adams County in 1863.
In neighboring Brown County, visit the boyhood home of US Grant in Georgetown; see where Liza reportedly crossed the Ohio River on the ice in Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Visit the Rankin House above the Ripley bluff, where lanterns hung to guide slaves escaping across the river from Kentucky.
Hike in one of the many nature preserves and natural areas in Adams County. Our favorites include Chaparral Prairie (a remnant prairie a mile away). Buzzards Roost Rock trail (a strenuous hike in the Edge of Appalachia Preserve) and Davis Memorial Nature Preserve (features a pristine stream, high rock cliffs and a geologic fault in the cliff face).
Enjoy birding on our farm or in the nature preserves.
Fish our pond (catch and release only), the ponds in Tranquility Natural Area, Adams Lake State Park, Ohio Brush Creek or the Ohio River.
Have dinner at Murphin Ridge Inn or Moyer’s Winery. Murphin Ridge is an excellent restaurant in an old farm house near the Amish community. Moyer’s offers fine food in a dining room overlooking the Ohio River.

Reviews for this vacation cabin rental in Winchester, Ohio
"We enjoyed every minute spent in this place! We saw a fox, deer and a noisy woodpecker with a red head! We will definitely be coming back, maybe with the kids! This was the perfect place for our 14th anniversary celebration! Thanks!"

"Absolutely perfect cabin in a perfect setting! You truly couldn't ask for anything more! The only time we left was to hike to the cave and then to the barn with a stunning view! We loved our time here and very much look forward to returning! Thank you for allowing us to bring our dogs too!"

"This place is spectacular. It is so peaceful and beautiful. We feel so refreshed. Great Fall weather with our sweet family. We are newlyweds and enjoyed our decision with picking this lodge. Fire, reading, his wine, my tea, dogs playing in the woods, grilling out, trails, games and laughter. Couldn't have asked for a better getaway."

"Came here with my two dogs to celebrate my 40th birthday. I've never been to such a relaxing and beautiful cabin. We loved hiking through the woods and the meadow and fishing in the pond. Saw the cave, but no way were we going in it! I couldn't believe all the different kinds of fungi that are in these woods! The cabin is beautiful and everything was perfect. My body and soul feels revived, and my dogs and I hate to leave! Thank you for providing such a wonderful retreat!
