Fox River Retreat

Excellent experience. Plenty of room inside and outside property. It was nice and secluded, but close enough to town if we needed to pick up anything. We had such a great time. We will definitely be back!
Great place to relax by in the country
August 5, 2014
The house was charming and provided for all of our needs. We loved the outdoor grill by the picnic table. We also utilized the fire ring by the river each night. It was a great place to relax in the country with friends. We all agreed that we would stay here again!
quiet and peaceful

My family and I enjoyed to stay the home. There is everything we needed for stay; towels utensils soap silverware etc. Our stay was peaceful and convenient..
Perfect for a larger family
July 26, 2014
We had a great time staying at this house. We used it as a "home base" while we traveled around the area and into the Dells for attractions. We also stopped at various Amish shops/homes nearby and enjoyed some Amish bakery treats - yum! (Note that the Amish businesses are closed on Thursdays.) This house was perfect for our needs and fit our larger family, which is really difficult to find economical accommodations near the Dells. We enjoyed being away from really close neighbors and had much more room than the normal hotel-type of setting and was a great value for us. Our kids loved the pool table and various games in the basement and we enjoyed having a full kitchen and living room, along with a nice bathroom and 3 bedrooms, along with a sleeper sofa in the living room providing even more sleeping space. The house is older, but kept nice and some updates have been made (appliances, etc.)... and ironically, it matched much of the same style as our own farm house at home (built in the 1960s)... right down to the same style of cupboards, windows, doors, flooring, etc. and was set up very similar to our own floor plan. We also enjoyed the fact that the drawers and cupboards were stocked with everyday supplies and items you might need. One bedroom even had a closet full of board games that the kids could play, and the living room had several vcr tapes and a working vcr for watching movies. The farm is quiet and peaceful and we enjoyed seeing deer and turkey right outside the windows in the early mornings. The house uses fresh well water, so the water pressure is not very high, but this did not affect us since we are used to that (we have well water, too). :) Overall, this was a very good value to us and we enjoyed not feeling cooped up in a hotel room. We were just far enough away from town that it was quiet, but close enough that we could get where we needed to go within 30 minutes or so. If you're looking for a clean, quiet, spacious place to stay, you won't be disappointed!
Cozy home on quiet, serene property
October 26, 2013
Our stay at this property was just what me and my friends needed; peace and quiet, relaxation, and to commune with nature. The house is charming and spacious without being cavernous. It is clean, well stocked, comfortable, and located on a beautiful piece of property, much of which is wooded and untouched. A photographer of any level won't lack subject matter to capture in their lens. If you're looking to relax in a serene setting with the comforts of home, minus the distractions, and for an affordable price, this is the place for you. Although we didn't have opportunity to meet the owner, Jim, I did speak with him on the telephone and he couldn't be nicer or more polite. A+ all around. Thanks, Jim!

Clean and specious
October 15, 2013
We rented house with our 12 year old son and his friend. House was very clean and had everything you need (all spices, coffee, toiletries etc.). Just bring food and you set up for nice time. Boys enjoyed a basket ball hoop, and all of us played pool. Night time was reserved for smores by the river and game (and there are a lot of them). Nice time without distraction of TV or computers. We hope John doesn't mind us picking apples ( delicious). Maybe add a hot tub behind house but very specious and clean house. We hope to go back this winter again
Velida, thanks for the kind words. We're glad you and the boys enjoyed your time at the retreat. Those apples are good. My Grandma made lots of pies from the apples on those trees and my grand parents also use to have cider made from the apples. Look forward to seeing you again this winter.
Nice, out-of-the-way place to stay
August 7, 2013
My family and I stayed there for a week in July. It was a "base-camp" for us as we traveled around central Wisconsin. It was comfortable for the 5 of us, and everything worked. It is a well-maintained, well-stocked old farm house. I would recommend it anyone, and would not hesitate to stay there again,

So we rented the place for a bachelor party crash pad and weren't expecting much. It turns out the place was huge and clean and stocked. The yard was huge and the fire pit was a great addtion. We cooked out every night and made breakfast every morning. I'd stay there myself in the future or with any number of folks. It was just the right distance from civilization.
Lovely quiet retreat
April 5, 2013
This property is beautiful and the house very nice. It was just what we were looking for! Very quiet and close to many local attractions. I will absolutely be renting it again soon. Even in cooler weather there is plenty to keep you occupied.
Thank you for the very kind comments Kim. There really is something to do year around. Skiing or snowmobiling in the winter. Fishing opportunities and the Amish attractions year around. And during the summer there are all the attractions at the Wisconsin Dells, golfing or just sitting back and enjoy the peace and quiet available at the retreat. One of my favorite things is to just sit back and enjoy a bonfire along the river at night, any time of the year.

The place was nice and calm. Loved the stay there.
December 28, 2012
Had a very lovely time at the Fox River Retreat. Saw deer and lots of birds on site. Nestled in a beautiful part of the state. Close to the Dells. Near a lot of quaint Amish farms and shops. Very close to town and shopping. Great fully equipped kitchen. Loved the peace and quiet. Neat trails to walk. The pool table and basketball game in the basement- great fun. The book of info provided by Jim was very helpful. Thanks Jim for everything.

This is your place! Easy to find. Quaint country house, very clean and it has everything you need. The yard and property are amazing! We saw turkey and deer on one of our walks. Pardeeville and Portage are within a convenient distance. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and will definitely be back!

Country home with flowing river by Wisconsin Dells
March 25, 2012
This property was a perfect gem, and all discussions via e-mail with the owner were thorough and complete. I was told everything necessary before my arrival so there weren't any surprises. There was even a wonderful book at my disposal (put together by the owner) to become familiar with restaurants and places of interest in the area. The house was neat, clean, and very comfortable with lots of extra touches. Watching Amish buggies traveling past on the road daily was pretty neat, and the Fox River on the property is clear enough to view the fish below. What a peaceful respite and just a lovely place for a vacation in the country. I'm ready for a return trip already!

A fantastic place to relax!
July 27, 2011
Our family enjoyed a wonderful two weeks at Fox River Retreat! The home is very well stocked with everything you need and they provided detailed information on activities, tourist attractions, shopping, and even maps for our boys to run thier cross country miles! We especially enjoyed the Disney movie collection, the pool table in the basement, and the view from the yard. We also used many of the brochures and coupons provided. Thanks for a wonderful vacation! The Greenwood Family
Amazing weekend getaway!
June 1, 2011
Spotless house, great accomodations, quiet and secluded. We all had a great time hiking, cooking out and the accomodations were perfect for all four of us. The property this house is on was beautiful. The house was cute, cozy, and well kept. We also had a great time hanging out in the basement with the pool table and games. Communication with the owner was excellent and we couldn't be happier. Will definitely be back! Can't beat the price for everything you get either! Thanks so much for a relaxing and fun weekend getaway.

mid winter get-away
February 15, 2011
It was a great place to meet our daughter's family.(Halfway between Chicago and NW Wisconsin) We enjoyed snow shoeing, cross country skiing on the property. The down hill skiing at Cascade Mountain was exceptional. Skiing there on Friday was less busy than during the weekend. We would recommend it to any of our friends as a place to relax and enjoy the area.

Quite a bargain!
February 9, 2011
This place was well worth the price. In fact, I almost didn't rent it because it appeared so cheap. BUT - it was clean, large, and very comfortable. It sits on a beautiful piece of land and has all the amenities. The only downside to the rental were the mattresses - they were a bit soft, but not horrible.
September 14, 2010
This was such a beautiful weekend. We had 6 adults in the home and we had plenty of space. The home was very clean and organized and the property was breathtaking. We had a great time exploring on the trails, and having camp fires at night. It was extremely peaceful feeling like you were way up north and in reality only being a short drive from Madison. We ventured around to near by towns and visited a few flea markets, and enjoyed cooking out and gazing at the stars at night. The only negative’s we had about the property was that the water pressure was very weak (not that big of a deal), and the beds were pretty uncomfortable and you could feel all of the springs as you were sleeping. But other than that I would totally recommend this property and we look forward to going back in the near future!!
August 17, 2010
Jim, the stay was amazing and the place was great, as well. It was nothing short of your description.
August 15, 2010
We love the feel of the home is was a country rustic feel. It was absolutely beautiful there. If you like peace and quiet this is the perfect place. Our only thing was we didn't care for was the basement ,it wasn't ideal but we didn't need to be down there a lot so it was ok.
Nice Retreat - Highly Recommended!
July 5, 2010
We just got back today from staying at the place for the whole 4th of July Weekend...When I made a reservation, I was little skeptical. But, once we got there, we found it exactly what the owner has described in this page...Away from the city crowd in a country side, very quiet and peaceful, and completely private. Huge yard with picnic table, grill, can fit 10-15 vehicles easily. Inside of the house was furnished with everything you need with big kitchen and refrigerator. The basement has a nice pool table and dart-board. House is nicely decorated and clean...I wish the house had more than one bathroom, but worked out fine for seven of us. So overall great experience, and I definitely recommend to anyone who loves being in a peaceful, completely private, and away from the city...By the way, the stars looked amazing during the night away from the light-pollution we have in cities...Will definitely come back again.

September 2011 - We enjoyed our stay at the retreat, so beautiful and peaceful! It was exactly what we were looking for. On suggestion, the water pressure was quite weak, anyway to improve on that? A strong shower would be great for a weekend ski stay. Other than that, loved the place and we thought the hospitality was great! Tracy M, Illinois

June 9, 2011 -- We found everything to be amazing. Better than expected. Really looking forward to our August vacation to spend more time. We hiked the trail 2 times. Beautiful. Are there fish in one of those lakes?
We will definetly look at this as our permanent place to stay instead of a hotel in our numerous trips to Wisconsin.
So, thank you for making this place available. All comments are very positive. So we are not the only ones.
Jerry and Linda B.
March 2011 -- We had a great time over our week long stay. This was our first vacation rental and we couldn't have been more pleased.
