Located five minutes from the center of the village of Woodstock, there are restaurants, galleries, shopping, and that ineffable Woodstock ambience; do not miss the Woodstock Film Festival in October. Also five minutes from historic Saugerties, enjoy antiquing, cafes, book stores and galleries. Saugerties hosts the gourmet's delight Garlic Festival, and a great Jazz Festival.
This is a renovation of two 1820 Quarry Worker's Cottages that were joined. The other side of the property (the smaller side - on left in photo) is occupied by the owner - however, they are completely private and soundproofed with privacy screening between the deck areas. Each has it's own deck and own access to the creek for swimming. The smaller side is also available for some rentals - it consists of one large studio room w/efficiency kitchen and an attic loft for sleeping with a double bed, accessed by a stairway from the studio, it has a window air conditioner - a private rooftop spot for sunning or star-gazing is accessed through the bedroom. There is a full bath with a shower. The rate is $350 per night.
Ideal location The location of Fish Creek House is ideal for a retreat - it is private, but not secluded - and convenient to New York City - only one hour 45 minutes to Exit 20 on the New York State Thruway - then 5 minutes to the house. Situated between Woodstock and Saugerties you have access to all these two charming towns offer - very good restaurants, clubs, antiquing and the many summer events scheduled in both towns. An affordable, luxurious getaway - both spaces are light, airy and charmingly decorated - the bedding is superior quality and the location can't be beat. Cleaning service on request.
Hiking and kayaking This area offers some of the most beautiful hiking trails in New York State - pack up your lunch and go out for the day to some of the trails - Platte Clove is nearby (the creek the house is on originates there) and you can hike up to Devil's Kitchen - a beautiful trail with some of the most gorgeous swimming holes along it I have ever seen - deep emerald green and you can see to the bottom. You can kayak (or canoe) on the creek behind the house (local kayak rental is close by) or you can kayak on one of the many waterways close by - the Upper Esopus Creek and the Hudson River are about a six minute drive away - they offer some of the best kayaking around.
