The building sits amongst the streets of Kiponda, ,in the heart of Stonetown. It is an perfect place to base and to be a witness of the way of living of the local people.
It isn't by the sea, but there are some wonderful views across the multi-coloured iron roofs of Stone Town.
The Old House was
renovated and designed with a lot of care and thought. The end result is two lovely stylish apartments, which are highly original and have bags of character.
The rooms are very comfortable and full of charm, furnished with Zanzibari old style pieces. There are two bathrooms and a sitting room, for those who enjoy reading and relaxing. The kitchen full contained helps to have a nice stay and to experience with the local veggies and fish that you can find on the market nearby.
It is ideal for those who love to stay far from the tourism movement and want to discover the real swahili secrets.
Stone Town is the old city and cultural centre of Zanzibar, which rose to prominence in the 17th century. The town is made up of narrow streets and winding alleys, bazaars and mosques. It is also home to many grand Arab houses, which were built in the 19th century when Zanzibar was one of the most important trading centres in the Indian Ocean.
The OLD HOUSE is located
in the heart of Stone Town,in one of the oldest areas , among narrow streets and carved wooden doorways, where many people live according to the traditions of their ancestors in between the past and the present.

We stayed in the apartment during August 2009 for 5 nights. The location is very central, close to the market and shops. Doreen, the woman who provided us with the keys, was extremely kind and helpful including assisting us with the organization of some trips, such as spice tour, town walk and dolphin tour arrangements. The apartment is spacious and cool. The beds have a good matras, however the authentic Zanzibari beds might be too short for tall people. Water supply is good, toilets work perfectly... (something you cannot always take for granted) Some improvement could be given to the kitchen equipment, but we managed and my husband surprised us with wonderful dishes using the local products and spices! Overall we were very satisfied and do recommend the place for everybody who wants to get the 'feel' of life in Stone Town.
