Absolutely wonderful vacation

We stayed a full week at Casa Encantadora and without a doubt this was one of the best vacations I have ever had! The Casa is wonderful with it's open living space. It's the perfect combination of indoors and outdoors in one setting. The infinity pool is perfect for relaxing and viewing out onto the Pacific and the town of Zihuatanejo. There is a full kitchen, and an absolutely fabulous cook! Each meal was wonderful and authentic, and I'm a very picky eater. The relaxing living space is comfortable and roomy and again part indoors and part outdoors. I love how they brought the setting of a home and the outdoors together. The bedrooms are quite nice, each with it's own bathroom. There are three bedrooms one level down from the main living space. One level down is the master suite, and one more level down is a media room, also equipped with a full bathroom. The tropical plants and flowers are beautiful and there are several great photos spots to capture the memories of your stay. The town and beach are a quick cab ride down the mountain. The locals are all very nice and friendly. The house manager will help you set up excursions, such as a sunset catamaran ride or a fishing trip. If you are looking for a fun and adventurous vacation or a total relaxation vacation, or anywhere in between, I recommend you book time at the Casa Encantadora. I will definitely be returning!

True Luxury in Zihuatanejo

This is the 4th time we have visited Zihuatanejo, but we weren't prepared for the experience we had at Casa Encantadora. The first thing you notice when you enter is the amazing view. Taking in the ocean, bay, town and mountains while sipping coffee in the morning or margueritas in the afternoon is not to be missed if you enjoy a true luxury vacation that caters to every need. Rita was available all through the initial inquiry, reservations, preparations and stay. We wanted to take the staff home with us. Erminia cooked some of the best meals we've ever had in Zihua, Rufina kept things spotless and prepared the beds twice a day, in case we needed a siesta. Lucio ran errands, took us on tours, arranged massages and even researched local artists so we could shop for artwork like Rita & Dan have in the casa. Elias arranged his maintenance to fit our schedules. Every bedroom has a view and a full bath, along with a stocked refrigerator. There was wifi, cable TV and just watching activity in the bay. Twice, on Rita's recommendation, we spent the day at LaPerla, enjoying the beach. Our daughter loved the beautiful white sand and the parasailing. You might not expect 4 star dining in a small town, but we loved LaPerla, Amuleto, and LaVillas. We are already planning our return to Casa Encantadora.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I've heard so much about the violence in Mexico, is it safe to vacation in Zihuatanejo?
A: Zihuatanejo is a safe, peaceful and restful place to have your vacation. You will feel relaxed and rejuvenated during your stay. In fact, most first time visitors to Zihuatanejo return agagin and again as the vista's over the bay, mountains decending into the sea and the samll town charm of Zihuatanejo are hard to find anywhere in the western hemisphere.

Most crime that occurs here is petty theft and we provide safe's in every room to lock your valuables. Casa Encantadora is located in a gated community and both gates are manned by security guards 24 hours a day. No one gets in without permission from an owner or guests. If you order a pizza from Jungle Pizza, you need to call the security gate or the driver won't get in. The same is true of taxis. Casa Encantadora is the nearest home to the back gate and it is easy to keep them apprised of who will be visiting you. At night a dedicated security gaurd monitors every home and street within the community while on foot or by moped. At the top entrance of Casa Encantadora is a intercom system with a camera. From inside the Casa, you will be able to see your visitor and talk to them before granting entrance. We also have a property manager that you can call 24 hours a day.

Most violence in Mexico is related to the drug trade and is confined to towns that border with the United States. But like anywhere you might vacation in the world or even in your daily life in your hometown, you should use common sense while vacationing. Take taxi's at night when returning to the Casa, stay away from drugs and anyone who might offer you access to them and lock the doors to the Casa at night.

You will find the people of Zihuatanejo amongst the most friendly you have ever met. They are gentle and happy people who are eager to help and ensure you have a great vacation. Tourism is the main source of income and revenue in Zihuatanejo and residents here go out of their way to be friendly and helpful.
Q: We've always stayed in a hotel or all inclusive resort while vacationing at the beach, how is renting Casa Encantadora different?
A: Very simple, it is all yours for the days you rent it. A normal hotel room is around 350-400 square feet and you share the common grounds with hundreds of other vacationers. At Casa Encantadora, all 3,800 square feet is yours to use as you see fit. The pool, outdoor bar, living area, bedrooms and media room will be shared only by your closest friends, family and invited guests. You choose the music, your meals and drinks and pay a fraction of what you would in a hotel. In fact, many boutique hotels in Zihuatanejo charge $400 to $650 per night for one room. Here you can share the cost making this a luxury vacation at a budget hotel cost.
Q: We usually stay at a beachfront hotel and Casa Encantadors is built on the mountainside. Why should I consider staying here?
A: At Casa Encantadora you are elevated several hundred feet over the bay and overlook the mountains, beaches, town and the Pacific Ocean to the west. The views remind many of those that can only be seen in coastal towns of Italy or Greece. The beauty of this vista is still amazing to residents of Zihuatanejo who have lived here for decades and is not to be missed.

We also love the beach and go most every day on our vacations. The most popular, Playa La Ropa, is only a three minute cab ride ($3.50 U.S.) away. We recommend going to La Perla restaurant for your days at the beach as they offer beach lounges, chairs, tables and umbrella's, buckets of beer for about $1.25 each, great daiquiri's, margarita's and pina colada's, a bar with flat screen TV's to watch any important games and great lunches like fish taco's, lobster, cerviche and even hamburgers with french fries. Here you can get an $18 one hour massage, parasail, jet ski or ride a tube or catamaran. Kayak rentals are also available. If you want to go completely upscale for the day, the Viceroy hotel offers day passes and you can use their pool, bar, restaurant and all hotel facilities. For an additional fee, you can also access their full service spa and salon.

Las Gatas beach is both fun and an adventure. This beach is a little more rustic and is best accessed by catching a water taxi from the pier in town. The cost is $4 roundtrip and when you arrive you will find a dozen restaurants that offer free tables, lounges and umbrella's for your use. Pull up a chair and enjoy there cold beer and margarita's. Within a minute walk of anywhere on the beach, you will find snorkel rentals and massage tents. Strolling vendors will sell you silver, handcrafted items, snacks, sing you a local song or even offer you locally made cigars or mexcal. Las Gatas has a reef that was manmade in the 1400's, supposedly as a present from a local indian king to his daughter. Here you will find very colorful tropical fish, octopus and all sorts of sea life. At the south end of the reef is a large statue of Jesus that was submerged to honor the local people's Christian faith. At the end of the beach is a resort that has been run for more than 40 years by a local legend who was once a diver on Jacques Cousteau's television program. You'll love Las Gatas Beach.
Q: I see your prices are different throughout the year. What is the main difference between high and low season?
A: During high season, which is between November 15 and April 30, the weather is virtually rain free, the humidity is lower and temperatures are moderate with highs ususally in the low to mid 80's and nights from the high 60's to low 70's. During the high season, you will also find many visitors from the U.S., Canada and Europe with bars and restaurants full and many forms of nightly live entertainment geared towards the English speaking crowd.

From October 15 through November 15 and the entire month of May, even though it is considered low season, there is very little rain and it is a great time to visit Zihuatanejo and rent Casa Encantadora at a lower price.

The low season is characterized by very lush and green mountains that have benefitted from the increased rainfall. It is a very beautiful time of the year. From June through mid October, the temperatures will ususally range from the high 80's to low 90's with nightly lows in the low to mid 70's. The rain ususall comes late afternoon or during the evening and you still have many sunny days to spend on the beach. Most low season months have rain one of every three days, but longer stretches can occur. During the low season you will see lower amounts of North American travelers, but many more Mexican vacationers. Prices are generally lower and it is a great time to enjoy the local people, food and culture. Casa Encantador's main palapa is open air and if you don';t mind lowering the sun and rain shades and watching the the lightning over the bay and mountains, the rain falling in the adjacent jungle and the sound of thunder echoing across the mountains - you might find the low season your favorite in Zihuatanejo. It's usually bright and sunny the next day for your fun in the infinity pool or day at the beach anyways.
Q: Should we rent a car during our vacation at Casa Encantadora?
A: There are several car rental agencies including Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar and Hertz availble for your trip and located at the Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa airport. However, for the most relaxing vacation, we recommend that you use local taxi's and buses for your transportation needs. They are cheap, dependable, safe and you don't have to worry about driving yourself. In Zihuatanejo there are an abundance of taxi's and you will never have to wait more than a few minutes to grab one.

For stay of seven days or longer, Casa Encantadora will provide you seven roundtrip taxi rides from the Casa to anywhere in Zihuatanejo...the beach, downtown, the pier or open air markets - anywhere you want within the Village of Zihuatanejo. We have selected two taxi drivers, Gustavo and Alejandro to provide this service as they keep their cars clean, maintained and are courteous and dependable. Both speak good English and will provide you an air conditioned ride if you request it. They will arrive at the Casa within minutes and pick you up after dinner or a show should you want their services at a pre-determined time.
Q: How do I get to Casa Encantadora from the airport?
A: Zihuatanejo's airport is modern and comfortable, offers duty free shopping and restaurants but is very small and easy to navigate. Immediately after clearing customs and entering the outside lobby of the airport, you will notice a taxi desk to your right. Tell the taxi attendant that you need a taxi to Cerro Del Vigia, Back Gate, Lot 2. The charge will be $450 mexican peso's or approximately $35 U.S. They will give you a ticket and your receipt. Proceed out the doors and you will see a taxi stand. Give them your ticket and they will walk you to an airconditioned vehicle appropriate for the size of your group. Next to the outside taxi stand they sell cerveza's, so grab one for the short 15-20 minute ride if you're thirsty!
Q: Can I use U.S dollars while I'm on my vacation?
A: Many places accept US Dollars, but at an exchange rate far lower than the rate in effect during your vacation. It's easy to get your bank to provide you Mexican Peso's for the trip prior to leaving your home city. Try to contact them a few weeks in advance so you have them on hand prior to departure. During your stay, we recommend using the ATM machines at the airport, supermarkets or bank lobbies to gain access to your funds. After clearing customs upon your arrival at the Zihuatanejo airport, look to your left and you will see three ATM machines. The screens are in both Spanish and English and easy to navigate. Get your peso's first and then proceed to the taxi stand. During the vacation ask your taxi driver to take you to the Scotia Bank whenever you need peso's. It is on the way into town and very convenient. You can also use your ATM card to shop at the local supermarkets - Commercial Mexicana or La Bodega.
Q: Can I use credit cards at most places?
A: Most restaurants, art galleries and shops in town allow you to use both Visa and Mastercard while on your vacation. Some businesses accept American Express, but far fewer. Small restautrants, bars and open air markets may require cash.
